The Pump Shotgun is a Shotgun in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It was introduced in the Pre-Season.

Functionality

The Pump Shotgun is a high damage, short range and slow firing shotgun, best suited to very close quarters. It has 5 shells in the magazine and must be pumped between shots, leading a slow fire rate. It excels at close range combat with its ability to deal significant damage. At lower rarities it still does significant damage, but is very punishing if you miss. The Pump Shotgun can hit targets at mid range, but the damage drop off is so high, and the spread so great that only 1 or 2 pellets will hit.

The Pump Shotgun is a hitscan weapon that fires a spread of 10 pellets when both aiming down sights and hipfiring. Aiming down sights tightens the spread of pellets.

Damage falloff:

• Damage falloff begins at 7 meters (1.5 tiles).
• Damage steadily decreases down to 78% of its maximum at 10 meters (2 tile).
• Damage decreases down to 49% of its maximum at 15 meters (3 tiles).
• It deals damage until 31 meters (6.2 tiles).

Usage

• The Pump Shotgun is a very strong shotgun in Battle Royale due to its high single-shot damage and good hip fire accuracy.
• When using the Pump Shotgun, try to utilize cover between shots. That way, you maximize damage dealt while minimizing damage taken.
  • When finding cover, make sure it's in a position where opponents will come toward you on your right. This way you can see them without them seeing you.
• When using the Pump Shotgun at close ranges, make sure to aim for the head, as the headshot damage of the Pump Shotgun is very high.
  • However, when nearing the limits of the Pump Shotgun's range, aiming for the upper chest is advised, to make sure you land as many pellets as possible.
• There are many weapons that can be effectively paired with the Pump Shotgun. For example:
  • Pairing the Pump Shotgun with a fast-firing close ranged weapon, such as an SMG, allows for an incredibly deadly close range combo. Fire the Pump Shotgun to deal high damage, then finish off the opponent with a rapid burst of fire from the SMG.
  • You can pair the Pump Shotgun with other different weapon types that deal high amounts of damage in single shots at close range. For example, the Flint-Knock Pistol, Ex-Caliber Rifle, or the Epic/Legendary Hunting Rifle.
  • For opponents hiding in player-built structures, especially ones made of wood, stone, or freshly-built metal, you can fire a Rocket Launcher at their structure, then fire your Pump Shotgun at them just as the rocket explodes. If it's timed correctly, you can deal 50+ damage to your opponent fairly easily.

Countering

• When selecting a weapon to counter a Pump Shotgun, usually the best option is your own Pump Shotgun or another high single shot damage, close range weapon.
• If you decide to choose a different shotgun, make sure you choose one that plays to the Pump's weaknesses.
  • For example, the Drum Shotgun can counter the Pump Shotgun's poor fire rate, and the Heavy Shotgun can counter the Pump Shotgun's poor range.
• If you don't have a good single shot high damage weapon, try getting into an opponents box and spraying them with an Assault Rifle or SMG.

History

Pre-Season

• Update v1.6: The Pump Shotgun is added to the game, in Rarities from Common to Uncommon.

Season 1

• Update v1.8.2: Adjusted the Pump Shotgun
  • Adjusted Pump Shotgun falloff damage.
    • 100% damage up to 7.68 meters
    • 70% damage at 18 meters
    • 20% at 30 meters
    • 0% at 41 meters

• Increased the time it takes to transition from hip-fire to targeting mode after unintentionally decreasing it in a previous update.
  • It previously took 0.25 seconds to raise and lower weapons.
  • It now takes 0.4 seconds to raise weapons and 0.45 seconds to lower weapons.

Season 3

• Update v3.40: Pump Shotgun rarity increased from Common and Uncommon to Uncommon and Rare. Stats are the same.
  • Pump Shotgun cannot shoot until pull-out animation is complete.

Season 4

• Hotfix June 6, 2018: Reduced damage from 90 Uncommon and 95 Rare to 80 Uncommon And 85 Rare
  • Reduced headshot multiplier from 2.5x to 2x
• Update v4.50: Adjustments
  • Weapon damage to structures now correctly scales with rarity.
  • Shotgun damage to structures has been reduced by 50% for Pump Shotgun

Season 5

• Update v5.00: General Adjustments
  • Shotguns will now indicate how many pellets hit, visible within the reticle.
  • Adjusted shotgun spread patterns to be consistent with no random variation.
  • After firing a shotgun, another shotgun cannot be fired for a very short time.
• Update v5.30: Pump Shotgun equip time has been shortened from 0.96 seconds to 0.88 seconds.

Season 6

• Update v6.31: Increased damage of the Uncommon and Rare variants from 80/85 to 95/100
  • The Epic and Legendary Pump Shotgun variants are introduced.

Season 8

• Update v8.00: Adjusted the firing, equip, and reload sounds.
• Update v8.20: Adjusted the equip time of the Epic and Legendary Pump Shotgun to match the Uncommon and Rare versions.

Season 9

• Update v9.00: Vaulted the Pump Shotgun.
• Update v9.30: The Pump Shotgun was Unvaulted, only available in Uncommon and Rare.

Chapter 2: Season 1

• Update v11.00: Unvaulted the Pump Shotgun in all rarities.
  • The low tier Pump Shotgun has had its model remade entirely, featuring a new icon.
  • The top tier Pump Shotgun has had it's textures and icon updated.
  • Added a Common rarity.
    • The new Common rarity uses the stats of the Uncommon rarity from the season prior, as such every other rarities stats have been increased by one rarity, with the exception of adjusted stats below.
  • Adjusted damage from 95/100/105/110 to 70/80/90/100/110.
  • Spread increased significantly on all rarities except Legendary.
  • Recoil increased on all rarities except Legendary.

• Update v14.00: Pump Shotgun Unvaulted in all rarities. Can be sidegraded to a Charge Shotgun.

Chapter 2: Season 6

• Update v16.00: The Pump Shotgun is Unvaulted in all rarities except Common.
  • The Pump Shotgun's damage has been buffed from 70/80/90/100/110 to 84/92/100/108/116.
  • Pump Shotgun headshot multiplier was nerfed from 2.0x to 1.75x, making the headshot damage deal 147/161/175/189/203.

Chapter 2: Season 7

• Update v17.00: Common Pump Shotgun Unvaulted.
  • All rarities of the Pump Shotgun can be crafted into a Lever Action Shotgun of the same rarity using Nuts 'n' Bolts.

Chapter 2: Season 8

• Update v18.00: All rarities of the Pump Shotgun can be crafted into a Charge Shotgun of the same rarity using Nuts 'n' Bolts.

Chapter 3: Season 1

• Update v19.00: Vaulted the Pump Shotgun in all rarities.
• Update v19.01: The Pump Shotgun can be found from a Malfunctioning Vending Machine with a very rare chance.
  • This was a mistake and was reversed in a hotfix.

Chapter 3: Season 2

• Update v20.30: Increased damage from 84/92/100/108/116 to 92/101/110/119/128 and changed the multiplier from 1.5x to 1.85x (after further testing in Creative).
  • To combat these changes, the maximum damage is capped at 165/170/175/180/185.

Chapter 3: Season 3

• Update v21.50: Unvaulted the Pump Shotgun in Legendary rarity in Late Game Arena only.

Chapter 4: Season 2

• Update v24.00: Vaulted the Pump Shotgun with the removal of Late Game Arena.

Chapter 4: Season 3

• Update v25.00: Unvaulted the Uncommon variant of the Pump Shotgun in Team Rumble only

Trivia

• The Pump Shotgun was part of Tilted Town's exclusive loot pool to match the Western theme.
• During Chapter 3: Season 1, there was a tiny chance to obtain it from a Malfunctioning Vending Machine.

Visuals

• The Common, Uncommon and Rare models are based on the American Remington 870 with rifle sights.
  • It's Chapter 1 model was based on the American Mossberg 500 Field Gun. As evident by it's Safety Switch.
  • The Chapter 1 model is shared with the Knight in Fortnite: Save the World.
• Its Epic and Legendary model is based on the Italian SPAS-12. In real life the SPAS-12 can switch between Semi-automatic and Pump action, hence why its presence in other games may be of a different configuration.
  • This is the reason for players often referring to these rarities of Pump Shotguns as "SPAS".
  • When reloading, the player does not press down the carrying hatch button on the side of SPAS-12.
  • In Save the World The Browbeater uses the same model at identical rarities.
