Aim Assist is a gameplay mechanic in Fortnite for controller players.

Functionality[]

The purpose/goal of Aim Assist is of course, to help controller players aim better. This only applies to console (PlayStation/Xbox/Switch) and PC controller players. When a player is targeting an enemy, Aim Assist automatically tracks the enemy by keeping it at the center of the crosshair when possible. Aim Assist also tracks Husks, AIs, and Wildlife.

Aim Assist can be adjusted in the Game Settings with a scale of 0% (Aim Assist disabled) to 100% (Full Aim Assist).

History[]

Chapter 2: Season 2[]

  • Update v12.30: Removed Legacy Controls and replaced them with a modified form of Aim Assist. Aim Assist was modfied, but however, it was still Overpowered according to competitive pro players and many of the top players in NA-East were on Controller. The Advanced settings allowed Controller players to spam their L2 trigger, even with the new changes.
  • Update v12.50: Tweaked Aim Assist so that it will act like console aim assist at 60 Hz. This was later proven false by other players.
  • Update v12.60: The L2 trigger was configured so that ADS stays, even after you release the L2 trigger.
  • Update v12.61: Aim Assist was once tweaked and it was reported that short and middle range had a nerf while long range had a buff.

Chapter 3: Season 1[]

  • Update v19.00: Aim Assist was adjusted and it was reported that in some situations Aim Assist turns off, such as when moving a control stick.

Trivia[]

  • This is currently the largest ongoing debate in Fortnite.
  • Many Save the World players are asking to unlink the Aim Assist Changes from Save the World since many are having a hard time shooting Husks.
