Ammo Boxes are a type of Container in Fortnite: Battle Royale. They were introduced in the Pre-Season, and expanded upon in Chapter 2: Season 1, Chapter 2: Season 7 and Chapter 3: Season 3.
Description[]
Ammo Boxes contain mostly Ammunition and come in various types. They can be interacted with by the player to open them, granting some XP. They take a standard amount of time to open. Ammo Boxes do not make an ambient noise.
The currently available types of ammo that an Ammo Box can drop are Light Bullets, Medium Bullets, and Shells.

Small Ammo Box []
Small Ammo Boxes will drop two stacks of any type of Ammo available.
Large Ammo Box []
Large Ammo Boxes have a 20% chance of replacing a Small Ammo Box. They will drop eight stacks of any type of Ammo available.
Vaulted Types[]
Toolbox []
Vaulted in TBA
Toolboxes have a 30% chance of replacing a Small Ammo Box. They will drop TBA stacks of any type of Ammo available.
As of Chapter 3: Season 2, Toolboxes also always drop one stack of the following items:
Grapple Glove Toolbox []
Vaulted in Chapter 5: Season 1
Grapple Glove Toolboxes will drop one to four stacks of Ammo, along with a guaranteed Grapple Glove .

Chapter 2: Season 1
- Update v11.00: Introduced Large Ammo Boxes. They have a small chance of replacing normal ammo boxes and will drop more ammo, with some healing items (Bandages, Med Kit, Small Shield Potions or Shield Potion).
Chapter 5: Season 1
- Update v28.00:
- Large Ammo Boxes no longer can drop Small Shield Potions, Shield Potion, Bandages or a Medkit.
Chapter 5: Season 3
- Update v30.00: Increased Large Ammo Box spawn rate from 10% to 20%.
- Large Ammo Boxes now drop either a stack of Nitro Splash or Repair Torch, at a 100% rate, alongside the Ammo.
- May 30th 2024: A stack of Small Shield Potion has been added to the possible extra drops from the Large Ammo Box.
- Update v30.10: Large Ammo Boxes now drop a stack of two items alongside the Ammo.
- The Tow Hook Cannon has been added to the possible extra drops from the Large Ammo Box.
Chapter 5: Season 4
- Large Ammo Boxes no longer can drop Nitro Splash, Repair Torch or Tow Hook Cannon.
- A stack of Shield Bubble Jr. has been added to the possible extra drops from the Large Ammo Box (except for Tournament playlists).
Chapter 2: Season 7
- Update v17.00: Introduced Toolboxes. They have a 15% chance of replacing normal Ammo Boxes.
- Toolboxes will drop Nuts 'n' Bolts at a 100% rate alongside the Ammo.
Chapter 3: Season 1
- Update v19.00: Vaulted Toolboxes.
Chapter 3: Season 2
- Update v20.00: Unvaulted Toolboxes. They now drop Vehicle Mod: Off-Road Tires, Vehicle Mod: Cow Catchers and Repair Torches alongside ammo, no longer dropping Nuts 'n' Bolts. They have a 30% spawn chance.
Chapter 4: Season 1
- Update v23.00: Changed the Icon for the Toolbox.
Chapter 3: Season 3
- Content Update v21.00: Introduced Grapple Glove Toolboxes. They have a 100% chance of spawning a Grapple Glove.
- Update v21.10 June 21th 2022: Increased spawn chance for Grapple Glove Toolboxes to 100% on Competitive playlists.
Chapter 3: Season 4
- Update v22.20: Vaulted the Grapple Glove Toolboxes along with the Grapple Glove.
Chapter 4: Season OG
- Update v27.00 Hotfix (November 9th, 2023): Unvaulted the Grapple Glove Toolboxes along with the Grapple Glove and Rift Encounters.

Trivia[]
- Ammo Boxes will drop their loot when destroyed. They provide Metal when harvested.
- It is possible that Energy Ammo may have only been available from Supply Drops, from when the Zapotron was in the game.
