Sniper rifle with rounds that explode shortly after impact.
— In-Game Description

The Boom Sniper Rifle is an Exotic Sniper Rifle in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It was added in Chapter 2: Season 5. It is an Exotic version of the Heavy Sniper Rifle.

Functionality[]

The Boom Sniper Rifle fires a fast Clinger projectile. This clinger deals contact damage to players, and then explodes after a short time. The contact damage is affected by head-shots, whereas the explosion is not. As it is a sniper rifle fitted with a scope, it is most effective at mid to long ranges. The gun also has 5 shots in its magazine, unlike the Heavy Sniper Rifle which only has 1.

Stats[]

The Boom Sniper Rifle deals up to 85 damage. It deals 10 contact damage, and the clinger's explosion delivers another 75 damage. The Boom Sniper Rifles uses Heavy Bullets - Ammunition - Fortnite Heavy Bullets. The Boom Sniper Rifle has a headshot multiplier of 2.5x. However, the multiplier is only applied to the contact damage.

Strategy Guide[]

Calculated - Emote - Fortnite This section outlines a strategy.
Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic.
  • The Boom Sniper Rifle can be used to deal splash damage to enemies around corners, as it shoots clingers.
  • The Boom Sniper Rifle is known as a 'fire and forget' weapon, as shooting it at an enemy allows the player to shift their attention to something else knowing the explosion will soon go off.
  • If you are playing with teammates, make your teammate approach the enemy, then shoot your teammate so they have a clinger on their body. The teammate should approach to the enemy so that when the clinger explodes, the enemy will take damage and your teammate can finish the opponent off.
  • You don't have to worry about reloading after every shot with the Boom Sniper Rifle, as the magazine size is 5 as opposed to the normal Heavy Sniper Rifle with its magazine size of 1.
    • This means that unlike other sniper rifles, the Boom Sniper Rifle does not benefit much from the Sniper Surplus augment.
  • This Sniper is extremely good at countering vehicles, since every grenade attached to one will deal direct damage to the crew, no matter which point of the vehicle was hit. This will force the opponents to abandon the vehicle or take massive damage.
  • Unlike other sniper rifes, the Boom Sniper Rifle does not feature sniper glint, meaning you can stay aimed in at an opponent for long durations of time without giving away your position.
  • You can use the notches on the Boom Sniper Rifle's scope to help account for bullet drop. Each vertical notch equates to roughly 50 meters, so you can use the bottom notches to account for distance.

Counters[]

  • High health structures can be beneficial to take cover behind when engaged against an opponent wielding a Boom Sniper Rifle.
  • The Boom Sniper Rifle, much like its regular Heavy Sniper Rifle counterpart, has a very slow reload, so pushing an engagement with an opponent as they attempt to reload it with a fast firing weapon such as an SMG can be beneficial.
