The Burst SMG is a Submachine Gun in Fortnite: Battle Royale, that was added in Season 9.
Functionality[]
The Burst SMG is a four round burst submachine gun which fires in a full-auto burst configuration. Like other SMGs, it is a short range weapon with good hipfire accuracy. The Burst SMG has a magazine size of 24 and deals high DPS up close. The weapon can function at longer ranges, but the damage falloff is high and the accuracy low.
The Burst SMG is a hitscan weapon. It does not have First Shot Accuracy enabled, and will always fire a random spread of bullets, which increases with continuous fire. This spread is decreased whilst crouching.

- The Burst SMG is ideal paired with a Shotgun. After firing a high-damage shotgun shot, switch to the Burst SMG to finish the opponent off.
- The Uncommon & Rare Burst SMGs deal 100+ in a single burst, meaning that it can eliminate a player with full health & shield in two bursts. (Two-and-a-half in Zero Build)
- The Burst SMG has the same damage drop-off pattern as the Suppressed Submachine Gun, meaning that it can be used efficiently at medium ranges. However, you should practice to maintain its vertical kick, which luckily resets at its original position after every burst.
- If you're good with this weapon, you could even replace an assault rifle if needed.
- The Burst SMG is able to shred through multiple player's buildings in few seconds, and if you time it perfectly you can pass multiple bullets through them and hit enemies on the other side of a wall.
- The Burst SMG has a long reload time, so make sure to manage its remaining ammo appropriately.
- The Burst SMG's hip-fire accuracy is very good, so you don't need to aim in at very close ranges.
Counters[]
- Despite its high DPS and very good spread, the Burst SMG can still be overwhelmed by fully automatic SMGs.
- Keeping yourself at longer ranges when engaging with an opponent wielding a Burst SMG can be beneficial, as despite it's excellent accuracy, it becomes weak and somewhat hard to control with its vertical recoil.

Trivia[]
- The Burst SMG is based on the real world American KRISS Vector SBR.
- Strangely the charging handle is on the right side rather than the left and is also where the bullets eject.
- Even if the in game statistics show that the Burst SMG has a fire rate of 7.5, the actual burst is faster than the Minigun firing in full-auto.
- The Burst SMG shares the same base model as the Rapid Fire SMG, with the only difference cosmetically being the coloring of the two weapons.
- Currently the Burst SMG is the longest vaulted weapon in the game accounting for all Core Modes, last being present in Season X.
- The firing sound effect for the Burst SMG plays four times, even if the weapon does not fire the full burst, similarly to Slone's Burst Assault Rifle.
- The Uncommon Burst SMG isn't considered a Guard weapon when given to a Guard Spawner unlike the Common and Rare Burst SMGs which are considered Guard weapons.
