This article is about the fifth season of Chapter 4. For other uses, see Season 5 (disambiguation). For the permanent gamemode, see Fortnite OG.

Chapter 4: Season OG,[1] also known as Season 27, Chapter 4: Season 5 or just simply Season OG/OG Season, was the twenty-seventh season (and first Mini-Season) of Fortnite: Battle Royale. This season started on November 3rd 2023 and concluded on December 2nd 2023 with the The Big Bang Live Event.

The season was themed around traveling back to Chapter 1, starting in Chapter 1: Season 5 and ending with Season X. The slogan is Fortnite: OG.

It was the fifth and final season of Chapter 4.

Previously, in Fortnite...

In Chapter 4: Season 3, The Ancients, as well as Optimus Prime, tried to warn Dr. Slone about the arrival of formidable enemies and an impending event that would collapse Reality Zero for good. However, Slone and the The Explorers rebuilt the Apparatus, which prophesied the eminent arrival of The Eclipse.

The first enemy to arrive, tied to the Eclipse, turned out to be a man known as Kado Thorne, a revenant vampire with a Rift-powered Time Machine who brought his estates (Eclipsed Estate, Sanguine Suites, and Relentless Retreat) and Guards to the Island. Kado used his Rift-powered Time Machine to collect artifacts from different times and events throughout the seasons of Fortnite: Battle Royale such as the Golden Egg, Mythic Goldfish, Midas' Drum Gun, The Foundation's MK-Seven Assault Rifle, Oro's Skull, as well as other items such as Kit's Shockwave Launcher or Ocean's Bottomless Chug Jug.

Optimus Prime's words made Slone come to a conclusion: She can use the Time Machine to return to the past of an alternate timeline version of Reality Zero (in other world a Reality very similar to Reality Zero) and to provoke The End once more. But this time, to control The Black Hole in order to generate a Big Bang creating new realities in the year 2018, so that Asteria's inhabitants in the year 2023 can escape into these new realities before Reality Zero collapses. Slone called for a professional robber and Heist Crew leader named Nolan Chance, who she thinks can help her steal the Time Machine from Kado. Slone also managed to recruit The Looper to assist with the Eclipsed Estate Heist. Nolan and The Looper managed to get Antonia, Fish Thicc, Piper Pace, Mae and Khaby Lame to also join the crew for the Eclisped Estate Heist.

Around two months later, during Fortnitemares 2023, the Eclipsed Estate Heist ended in failure, with the crew being ambushed by Kado in his Revenant form. Fortunately, the crew was able to successfully steal the Time Machine from Kado, due to The Looper and the Vampire Hunter Shimmerdusk taking him out.

They stashed the Time Machine at Frenzy Fields, just outside of The Getaway, where Slone and Jones started to study and experiment on it. They used the machine to bring many items from Season 5 as a test, such as the Tomato Temple head, Durrr Burger head, Dusty Diner Sign and the Truck N' Oasis sign. Eventually these items disappeared from Frenzy Fields with Jones and the Time Machine itself, with the Season 5 items appearing in the real world.

How Did It Start?

Jones used the Time Machine to travel in the past of an Alternative Timeline of Reality Zero at the beginning of Season 5 for an extraction mission. However this past seems to have been already altered by Thorne's time travels as there are notable differences and anachronisms, a sign of several time travels. Certain iconic characters don't exist and their roles are filled by other characters:

Other elements have subtly changed and anachronisms are present but any change in the past of this Reality similar to Reality Zero will affect the future of the Omniverse, so what does the future hold?

Will Jones succeed in his mission to save the inhabitants of Reality Zero from The Island's collapse?

The End of Chapter 4

Main Article: The Big Bang

The Rocket at Dusty Divot is launched and the events played out just as it did in The End. However, some reality glitches happened to the rocket and the meteor due to the time machine being attached to it and affecting it. Athena was sucked into the black hole created by The Zero Point. However, unlike last time, it violently blooms and an explosion occurs that create plenty of new Galaxies each containing new worlds, allowing the inhabitants of Asteria to escape in one of the new worlds before The Island collapses.

This marks a new beginning...

Season OG Story

Jones, after using the Time Machine receives messages from Slone. She informs Jones that he isn't there to change the past but to do an extraction, and Slone tells Jones that whatever Jones does will ripple forward to Slone's exact moment in the present. Slone sends another message to Jones, but she doesn't remember if she sent a message before or not. The Past changes even if Jones didn't mean for it to happen, The Cube does not implode, instead staying above Loot Lake where the Zero Point is located. More changes have also happened with the Ice Moon coming onto the island much earlier than originally, but this time The Ice King never arrived on the Island, meaning The Prisoner is also absent, which prevents him from creating the Volcano along with the Jungle on the northeastern side of The Island, although The Devourer had already broke out from the Ice Moon chunk. Slone sends another message to Jones and she tells Jones that they should say goodbye to the current versions of themselves, as they're heading into the unknown. The Rocket had finished construction at Dusty Divot by this time, with the Time Machine attached to it.

One big plot hole within the story is why The Cube (alongside the Floating Island) isn't present during The Big Bang.

  • Chapter 4: Season OG...
    • ...has many different names from various sources.
      • Fortnite OG - marketing
      • Chapter 4: Season 5 - internal
      • Chapter Fortnite: OG, Season Fortnite: OG (Error; Before v37.00) - cosmetic descriptions

    • ...is the seventh season to not introduce any new Mythic items, and the first to lack them since Season 9.
    • ...is the first season since Chapter 3: Season 1 to not have a Cinematic trailer.
    • ...is the second season to not be referred to with a number. The first was Season X.
      • That being said, Chapter 4: Season OG is the first ever season to not be numbered at all, as Season X uses the Roman numeral equivalent of 10 in its name.
    • ...is the fourth season to lack a Bonus Outfit; the previous season to do so was Season 3.
    • ...is the fourth season starting on a Friday, the last three being Chapter 4: Season 2, Chapter 4: Season 3, and Chapter 4: Season 4.
    • ...was formerly the shortest season in the game, lasting only one month, with the current shortest season being Chapter 2 Remix, lasting 28 days.
    • ...is the only season to not include any drivable cars in any line up, after Chapter 2: Season 2.
    • ...is the first mini season to be introduced, though the term "mini season" wouldn't be established until Galactic Battle.
  • Despite Kado Thorne's time machine having the release date for Season 5 on it, Chapter 4: Season OG used the Update v5.41 version of the map when it first began.
  • Chapter 4: Season OG had the biggest day in Fortnite history with over 44.7 million players in and 102 million hours of play.
    • The success of Season OG led to the development of Fortnite OG, expanding on the OG concept as a permanent mode.
  • Prior to the season's official announcement, various content creators including SypherPK and Salvatretzzo received teasers to the upcoming season which includes:
    • A vinyl record which has the Season 5 map on one side while the other has the original Battle Bus,
      • These records played the original loading screen music, which was changed in Season 3.
    • Dog tags with Chapter 1 outfits imprinted on them.
    • Pins with references to Seasons 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and X, with the logos similar to the ones found in the Squad Origins Set.
    • A pin with the phrase "Fortnite OG".
    • One of the first teasers for the season, "Fortnite: Where We Droppin'?"
  • Some inferred the return of Chapter 1 gameplay as a belated tie-in to the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame, which depicted Season 6 as the current season as of October 2023 (In Universe).[11][12]
  • Mark Rein's teaser word for Chapter 4: Season OG was "Rewind".[13]
  • Chapter 4: Season OG, Chapter 2 Remix, and Galactic Battle all tie for having shortest Battle Pass with all having only 50 Tiers.
    • However, by counting Bonus Rewards, both OG Pass and Remix Battle Pass have 70 Tiers, making them equals to Season 2's battle pass.
  • The Chapter 4: Season OG keyart is a reference to the Season 1 keyart, as well the Battle Royale Loading Screen.
    • However, it can be noted that the Season 1 Keyart appears to loosely take place between Dusty Depot and Retail Row, while the Season OG Keyart takes place inside Pleasant Park.
    • The keyart showed Chapter 1 models of weapons, though in-game the weapons' current icon and models are used.
    • In the Season 1 keyart, Jonesy was seen behind a wooden wall, while in the Season OG keyart, Jonesy is actually shown peeking out of said wall.
  • Chapter 4: Season OG was accidentally released few hours earlier than intended on Android, leading to many things getting leaked early.
  • Chapter 4: Season OG used to be first season since Season 8 to not have any AIs on the island.
    • However, starting with the Update v27.00 hotfix, Rift Encounters brought passive Characters on the island.
  • The music used in the Battle Pass trailer is Start to Finish by Slizzy McGuire.
