Chapter 5: Season 1, also known as Season 28, was the twenty-eighth season of Fortnite: Battle Royale and the first season of Chapter 5. The season started on December 3rd 2023 and concluded on March 8th 2024. This is the first season to feature the Helios map. The theme features an european-inspired setting where the conflict of Society vs Underground took place

The season’s main slogan is Underground.

Previously, in Fortnite

In a lush jungle under Asteria, an advanced ancient civilization had fled their villages from a ruthless vampire named Kado Thorne after predicting his arrival using The Apparatus, which was later used by Doctor Slone to discover the arrival of the vampire.

Doctor Slone paid Nolan Chance to assemble a heist crew. But, they are ambushed by the vampire himself, Kado Thorne. They successfully stole the Time Machine and John Jones used the Time Machine to take himself back to Athena during Chapter 1: Season 5.

Jones' mission is to slightly alter the Black Hole without modifying the future to create new realities alongside Apollo/Artemis so that the inhabitants of Asteria in the future have a reality to take refuge in, before the collapse of Asteria and the arrival of the enemies warned of by Optimus Prime. Jones carries out the mission, making it to Dusty Divot and installing the Time Machine on the Rocket. Finally on December 2nd at the following times, 2PM ET, 5PM ET, and 11PM ET, they launched the Rocket and entered the Zero Point and collided the unstable meteor with it, causing a second Big Bang in the Omniverse.

How did it start?

The Big Bang created multiple new galaxies with one of them containing a new world (Helios) where the inhabitants of Asteria could take refuge. Sometime later in that new world, Jones became a member of The Underground faction after learning that Peely had been kidnapped by The Society.

Storyline

After The Big Bang occurred The Society was formed by Montague. The five leaders of The Society are: Montague, Nisha, Peter Griffin, Oscar, and Valeria who is the most notorious of the five. Later The Underground was formed by Hope, Valeria's younger sister, to defeat the Society. Valeria then kidnaps Peely in order to lure Jones in order to try to get information on Pandora's Box from Jones. However this backfired as Jones, now Vengeance Jones, had no information on Pandora's Box and decided to join The Underground in order to rescue Peely.

Later in the Takedown Quests Jones, Hope, and the Looper work together to defeat The Society once and for all. The Underground succeed and Jones rescues Peely from Fencing Fields. Near the end of the season Valeria sets up a camp in Ruined Reels to try to find Pandora's Box. A character called Odyssey comes to the Island to find the Mosaic saying that the Mosaic is the key to what is coming.

In Odyssey Quests the Looper uncovers the Mosaic revealing that it is a picture of Cerberus, Hades's three-headed guard dog, from Greek mythology. Odyssey states that she can feel an ancient power growing on the Island. She also states that the Society Medallions are fragments of this ancient power. Later Earthquakes start happening near Ruined Reels. Finally on March 2nd 2024 the Titan Hand comes out of the Island holding Pandora's Box in 6 chains. The Loopers work together to break the chains and then on March 3rd Pandora's Box opens and falls to the ground unleashing the souls of The Underworld to the Island. Valeria later goes missing.

Battle Pass

The Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks, with an additional 25-Level Boost offered for 1,850 V-Bucks available via the Item Shop. If you own a Fortnite Crew subscription, you will unlock the Battle Pass for free. If you do not own the paid battle pass you wont get all the rewards but you can still earn a few.

Each Battle Pass level requires 80,000 . Up to 100 levels can be bought for 150 V-Bucks each, with the first 25 being discounted.

Update v28.30 Hotfix (February 27th 2024)

• Cracks have bulged out of the ground at the Exploration site near the water west of Ruined Reels.
  • Small Caldera formed along with the earthquake.
    • Earthquakes are happening every hour.
  • February 29th 2024 (3:00 PM ET): A large explosion started happening with every quake.
    • The Caldera slowly started to grow with every quake.
  • February 29th 2024 (12:00 PM ET): The 1st crack has filled with lava.
