Chapter 5: Season 2, also known as Season 29, was the twenty-ninth season of Fortnite: Battle Royale. It was the second season of Chapter 5. The season began on March 8th 2024 and concluded on May 24th 2024.

The season’s main slogan was Myths & Mortals with a theme around gods and goddesses in Greek Mythology.

Delays

Chapter 5: Season 2 was originally going to start on March 8th, 2024, but there were technical issues that led to the downtime being extended.

The first delay was announced around 9:15 A.M EST, announcing that the downtime will be extended for 8 more hours. Then on 4:03 P.M EST, Epic Games announced that an updated version of v29.00 will be released at 9:00 P.M EST on March 8th. On 10:00 P.M EST, the servers came online, starting the season after an 18 hour downtime which is currently holding the record for the longest downtime in Fortnite history.

Previously, in Fortnite

Odyssey arrived at Ruined Reels, having the Looper collect pieces of the Mosaic. Just a few days later, though, a giant, molten hand (referred to as the Titan Hand or just The Hand) had emerged left of Ruined Reels, with a giant chest attached to a chain: Pandora's Box. The entire community had to work together to break the chains, which had 5,000,000,000 HP. When the chains broke, the chest opened, letting out the chaos that was not meant to be released, leading us into Myths & Mortals!

How did it start?

After Pandora's Box was opened, the evil souls were unleashed onto the Island. Because of this, The Pantheon arrived on the Island and after they resealed away the evil souls Zeus became angry at humanity for opening Pandora's Box and vowed to eliminate all mortals. Thus the battle between Gods and mortals had started.

Chapter 5: Season 2 Storyline

The Society's remnants, Nisha, Kavel, and Montague, battle against Zeus losing in the process marking the end of The Society. Faced with the threat of Zeus, wishing to annihilate all mortals, The Oracle made a new prophecy stating "Zeus's wrath is upon you. And doom is on the horizon. You must prove the worth of humanity to Zeus and the guardians of Olympus... Before the skies turn black..." . The Looper later challenges Hades and Ares, triggering a fight against Cerberus who was defeated, then later against Ares who was also defeated, which definitively signed the declaration of war between The Looper and the Gods. The Oracle then made another prophecy stating "Darkened skies...Choking dust... Hope lost, and found again..."

Meanwhile in The Underworld, Midas was chained in a prison cell by Hades. Midas later broke out as Ascendant Midas and reunited with his crew. Together they escaped the Island with The Marigold, Midas' yacht. Jules, Midas' daughter, also made gauntlets out of Underworld Essence to control the Golden Touch. An iceberg later arrives at Helios with Aang and his sky bison Appa trapped inside leading up to the Avatar: The Last Airbender collaboration.

The Looper then goes on quests from Aphrodite and The Oracle, revealing a prophecy by The Oracle stating "Bold Zeus calls out for vengeance, Aphrodite raises her shield... For his lost correspondence, keep your sharp eyes keenly peeled..." Artemis also gets recruited onto humanity's side by the Looper. Later on, Cerberus loses an artifact given to him by Hades so he blackmails the Looper into finding it, otherwise he will tell Zeus that the Looper is conspiring against him. The Looper finds the artifact and The Oracle instructs the Looper to find Medusa leading to the Medusa Snapshot Quests.

In Medusa Snapshot Quests the Looper retrieves Medusa's artifacts from Zeus and gives them back to Medusa. Later the Looper destroys Zeus's hourglasses, weakening Zeus. Finally, the Looper destroys Zeus's Stormforged Hourglass, defeating Zeus once and for all. The Oracle than reveals that her previous prophecy about darkened skies and choking dusts was actually talking about The Wanderer, and that Zeus was just the beginning. She quotes "You have won a great victory for humanity. But your war has not yet begun. Storm clouds gather. The Wanderer draws near. Even in the darkness... Hope will guide you." Hope also manages a new rule of freedom of Olympus.

Near the end of the season, a Mini-Event takes place called the Sandstorm Event. In the event, storm clouds gathered around the statue at Mount Olympus and the statue's eyes glowed and threw a lightning bolt at Pandora's Box using his sword. The box's orb charged up one-thirds of the way and the green water around the box turned yellow because of the boiling heat from the lightning bolt. The next day, the statue struck another lightning bolt at Pandora's Box, filling the orb up two-thirds of the way.

The next day, the statue threw a red lightning bolt at the box, imploding it. Something came out of the box, most likely The Wanderer, which bounced around to another island, creating a sandstorm that got closer and closer to the Island. It also speaks a message to us in morse code, saying "NO HOPE", "GET REKT", "WILDNESS, and "CASSATION". Eventually we can see a shark-shaped boat in the distance, which is owned by the Wasteland Warriors. The sandstorm then engulfs the southern part of the Island, starting the story for the next season...

Battle Pass

The Battle Pass costed 950 V-Bucks, with an additional 25-Level Boost offered for 1,850 V-Bucks available via the Item Shop. If you owned a Fortnite Crew subscription, you could unlock the Battle Pass for free. If you did not own the paid battle pass you wouldn't get all the rewards but you can still earn a few.

Each Battle Pass level requires 80,000 . Up to 200 levels can be bought for 150 V-Bucks each, with the first 25 being discounted.

  • A Persona 3 collaboration with a poster on the island and the return of God of War's Kratos with Atreus as a new Outfit did not materialize. The latter's Item Shop section and the Kratos Bundle were updated during the season, however.
    • SEGA leaker MbKKssTBhz5 confirmed the existence of a Persona collaboration. They are known for leaking the title of Persona 3 Reload and its reveal at Xbox Showcase on June 11th 2023, the characters Kasumi Yoshizawa and Goro Akechi in Persona 5 Tactica alongside their artwork, and the game Sonic Rumble.
