The Charge SMG is a Submachine Gun in Fortnite: Battle Royale that was added in Chapter 3: Season 3.
Functionality[]
The Charge SMG does not fire until the player lets go of the trigger. Whilst being held, the Charge SMG will increase in increments of 3 bullets. When the player lets go of the trigger in one of these increments, the gun will fire as many bullets as the players has charged. For example, if the player holds down the trigger for 3 increments, the gun will fire 9 bullets non-stop. These increments are shown with a counter above the crosshair.
The Charge SMG is a hitscan weapon, with First Shot Accuracy disabled.

- The Charge SMG requires a lot of time to use to its full potential, so it is best to charge it up when you are able to get the jump on a player and not mid-battle.
- If you don't hold the trigger, the weapon will shoot in a 3-round burst configuration, which is faster than a Burst Assault Rifle but slower than a Burst SMG. As such, it is not a recommended weapon for regular gunplay.
- Keep in mind that you can decide how many bullets you want to fire. It is not necessary to fully charge every time. Charging wisely can make you save a lot of time and eliminate your opponent thanks to the Charge SMG's very high fire rate. Even firing in three shot bursts can be a tide-turning strategy if the combat situation requires so.
- The Charge SMG can quickly destroy builds and outplay enemies building for cover if fully charged. However because of its burst function and the time to charge up, this weapon is underpowered in intense build fights.
- Still, its fire rate of 16.82 is much faster than turbo build can block, meaning that even if an enemy is holding a wall with 0 ping most bullets will still pass through and hit.
- The Charge SMG uses a lot of light bullets if fully charged continuously. Despite this, you only need around half magazine to eliminate an opponent if you're accurate enough.
Counters[]
- The Charge SMG is very reliant on being fully charged to reach its maximum DPS potential. Because of this, unless you get caught by surprise by an opponent who has fully charged their Charge SMG, carrying a normally functioning SMG can be beneficial, as most engagements will overwhelm an uncharged Charge SMG.
- The Charge SMG, like the Combat SMG, has very tight spread, but also has very high recoil. This is amplified tenfold by its ludicrous fire rate when fully charged. Keeping distance between yourself and an opponent with a Charge SMG is very important and can be beneficial as it can be overpowered by an easier to control weapon.
