Close Encounters is a LTM in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It was introduced on May 25th 2018.

LTM Rules and Gameplay[]

In this gamemode, the only available form of weaponry are Shotguns, making it almost impossible to attack players from a long range. The Storm moves more quickly and an upper Storm is present which will descend throughout the match.

In this LTM, you will have to get within close range to a player. This will result in them taking more damage when you fire your weapon. Also, do not go excessively high on your Jetpack, unless you are above water.

Try landing closer to the middle of the map to make sure you don't have to run too far or at all when the zone closes in.

Try and use the Heavy or Combat Shotgun, due to their range, for longer engagements.

Chapter 6: Season 3[]

July 15th 2025: Close Encounters has returned. It is now based on the Fortnite OG playlist. It uses the Season 4 lootpool.

Close Encounters was the first LTM to make a comeback in Chapter 3: Season 1.
