The Combat SMG is a Submachine Gun in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It was introduced in Chapter 2: Season 8.

Functionality

The Combat SMG is a fast firing SMG with a tight spread, but has significant recoil that must be controlled to fire accurately. The recoil makes it unsuitable at medium to long ranges.

• The Combat SMG's heavy recoil can be countered by adjusting your aim controls downward while firing.
  • Controller players can do this by pulling down on the aim stick.
  • Keyboard and mouse players can do this by dragging their mouse downward.

• The Combat SMG deals high damage for an SMG and has very little damage fall-off. Coupled with its tight accuracy and high headshot damage, the Combat SMG is a powerhouse in both close and medium ranges.
• Due to its high accuracy and tight spread, the Combat SMG can function at long range in a pinch. Tap-firing or firing in short bursts will ensure the most is made of the Combat SMG at greater distances.
• At medium ranges, it's often best to fire the Combat SMG in short bursts to counteract its high vertical recoil.
• The Combat SMG is an excellent pairing for a high-damage shotgun. Fire your shotgun, then switch to the Combat SMG to finish off your opponent.
• Due to its high accuracy and damage, the Combat SMG can substitute in place of an assault rifle if needed.

History

Chapter 2: Season 8

• Update v18.10: Added the Combat SMG to the files.
• Update v18.20: Introduced the Combat SMG, as a vote for Donation Stations.
  • October 15th 2021: The Combat SMG was not added to the loot pool, as it lost the voting on the Donation Stations to the Legacy Combat Assault Rifle.

Chapter 3: Season 2

• Update v20.00: Added the Combat SMG in Common to Legendary.
• Content Update v20.00: Reduced the damage to players and structures by 2 (20/21/22/23/24 → 18/19/20/21/22) and headshot multiplier to 1.75x (previously x2).

Chapter 3: Season 3

• Update v21.00: Added a Mythic rarity version to Fortnite: Creative.
  • June 9th 2022: Reduced the damage by 1 across the board (18/19/20/21/22 → 17/18/19/20/21), and 3 for the Mythic rarity (25 → 22).
• Update v21.20: Vaulted the Combat SMG to make room for the Charge SMG.
  • The Combat SMG was also removed from Competitive, which is notable as its replacement, the Charge SMG, did not replace it in the mode.
  • Lowered the Headshot Multiplier of the Mythic rarity to 1.75x.

Chapter 4: Season 3

• Update v25.00: Unvaulted the Combat SMG in all rarites.
• Update v25.20: Increased the damage to players and structures by 1 across the board (17/18/19/20/21/22 → 18/19/20/21/22/23).

Chapter 4: Season OG

• Update v27.00: Vaulted the Combat SMG.

Trivia

• It was obtainable in the Horde Rush for a short time before being removed.
• This weapon first appeared in the Chapter 2: Season 8 Battle Pass Trailer.
• The Combat SMG resembles the real world LWRCI SMG-45.
