The Compact SMG was a Submachine Gun in Fortnite: Battle Royale that was introduced in Season 5. Although it looks almost identical to the high tier Submachine Gun, it is a different weapon.
Functionality[]
The Compact SMG is a fast firing, short range and high hip-fire accuracy weapon, in line with most SMGs in the game. The purpose of the Submachine Gun is to deal high amounts of DPS in a close range environment, similar to a shotgun. The weapon can function at longer ranges, but the damage falloff is high and the accuracy low.

The Compact SMG ranges from dealing 20 to 21 damage per shot (200 to 210 Damage Per Second). All Compact SMGs use 
Light Bullets. The Compact SMG has a headshot multiplier of 1.75x.

The Compact SMG is a hitscan weapon. It does not have First Shot Accuracy enabled, and will always fire a random spread of bullets, which increases with continuous fire. This spread is decreased whilst crouching.

Strategy Guide[]
- The Compact SMG is ideal paired with a Shotgun, due to their close range abilities, if you do not kill the enemy with the shotgun, switch to the Compact SMG to finish them off.
- The Compact SMG's large magazine of 40 rounds allows it 4 seconds of sustained fire. This makes it a powerful tool to pressure buildings and opponents alike.
- Its larger magazine size comes with a disadvantage of a 3 second reload time, which is enough time for an opponent to drink a Small Shield Potion.
- The Compact SMG has very high damage drop off at range. This combined with its accuracy makes it unsuitable as a weapon to be used beyond close range, even at the start of a match if it's your only gun.

Trivia[]
- The Compact SMG is modeled after the Belgian FN P90.
- The P90 model itself differs drastically from its real life counterpart. As the magazine, receiver and carry handle have been moved more forward from the bolt, leaving the stock to be very short as a result. With this a foregrip was added to use up the newly added space.
- The Compact SMG is a confusing weapon due to its similarities with the Submachine Gun. When the Compact SMG was added in Season 5, it served as a high tier SMG, until Chapter 2. When Chapter 2 launched, weapons could now be upgraded, and so the Submachine Gun could have been upgraded into higher tiers, using the same model as the Compact SMG. In Chapter 2: Season 3, the Compact SMG was unvaulted and existed at the same time as the high tier SMG, meaning both weapons existed, in which created some issues: The high tier SMG had better stats which led to a hotfix that made the higher tier SMG to match the compact; when Chapter 2: Season 3 launched the Epic Compact SMG had the ability to be sidegraded to a Rapid Fire SMG in which epic later reported that it was an issue. Finally in Update v13.20, the Compact SMG properly replaced by the High Tier Submachine Guns.
- It is unknown why this weapon existed in the first place, as it could just as well have existed as the high tier Submachine Gun, like it does currently.
