Content Update v19.01 - #2 of Fortnite was released on January 11th 2022 during Chapter 3: Season 1.
Battle Royale[]
Introduction[]
Today’s forecast predicts tornadoes and lightning joining the Island’s elements. Find out below how to use this new weather to your advantage! And speaking of weather, turn up the temperature with the unvaulted Flare Gun.
Twister and Shock: New Weather Explained[]
If you see a tornado start to form, that’s no signal to flee. Instead, run into it as a swirling escape strategy! You’ll spin round and round ‘til you choose to glide to safety — or if you stay spinning long enough — ‘til the twister spits you out. Don’t worry: you won’t take fall damage if you get hurled.
If you see a dark cloud start to form, that’s not necessarily a signal to flee either. Sure, the lightning from it deals a small amount of damage (and sets the surrounding area on fire) but the power of its shock gives players a temporary speed boost.
How to increase your chance of getting struck by lightning? Jump into a body of water beneath the cloud, or reach the highest land point under it! Lightning doesn’t strike twice back-to-back — once you’ve been struck, lightning won’t strike you again right after.
Flare Gun Also In The Forecast... To Be Unvaulted Now![]
Don’t leave it up to just lightning to start fires. With this hotfix, the Flare Gun has been unvaulted! So now in addition to Firefly Jars, you can spark Flare Guns to make use of spreading flames. Find Flare Guns in Chests, on the ground, and from Supply Drops!
Tornado Week: The Twisters Intensify[]
The cyclones are at high intensity to mark this climate shake-up.
In Tornado Week, running from now to January 17 at 9 AM ET, there’s a higher percent chance you’ll encounter tornadoes around the Island for their debut. The wind is at your back!
Competitive notes:
- Tornadoes and lightning are not included in competitive playlists.
- Flare Guns are currently not in competitive playlists but are subject to an evaluation period.
- During this Season, items like the Flare Gun and Shield Keg could potentially be introduced to competitive playlists after a one-to-two week evaluation period. In this Season in particular, we're evaluating the viability of more mid-Season items introduced to competitive playlists than in recent previous Seasons.
Save The World[]
Introduction[]
Welcome back Commanders,
Thank you for joining us in the first Homebase Status Report of the year!
A new year tends to spell the end of the holidays, but you still have time to experience the joy of the Winterfest Ventures Season, as it comes to a close on January 24 at 7 PM ET.
Now let’s find out what else Winterfest has to offer before it melts away. Homebase Status Report - Initiate !
Update 1/18
Hey there Commanders, it’s Lars. I’ve been researching some stuff in my lab and noticed a recent change in behavior from The Storm that you are gonna wanna hear about.
Some Commanders tend to use a certain building technique during “defend the objective” missions, which allows their structures to pretty much do all the work for them. Hey I’m not judging; I also like to kick my feet up and spend some time just enjoying a good tune once in a while… But I don’t think Commanders can get away with that anymore. The Storm seems to have noticed this building technique, and has made adjustments against it; that's just freaky man!
It seems Husks that stay stuck on the field for a while will be reabsorbed by The Storm, and then replaced by new, fresh Husks. This must be a way The Storm keeps its Husks alert, active, and always ready to tear apart your structures.
I don’t know what The Storm is feeding these Husks, but it sure seems to be working. Higher level Husk will have an easier time clawing through your defense, so watch out in those more difficult Zones.
To counter these buffed up Husks, we have strengthened our traps! Husks will no longer become immune to our control traps, no matter how many times you stun, snare or freeze 'em. What does Major Oswald like to say again? No Mercy?
This proves my theory that The Storm is smarter than we think so as our tactics change, so will The Storm’s. We gotta be ready for anything. Good luck Commander, we are gonna need you more than ever now.
Signing off-
Lars,
Steel Wool Guitarist and Lead Storm Scientist
