This article is about the Battle Royale Mechanic. For the Save the World version, see Crafting (Save the World). |
Crafting was a Gameplay Mechanic in Fortnite: Battle Royale that was introduced in Chapter 2: Season 6. It was reworked and simplified in Chapter 2: Season 7, and was removed in Chapter 3: Season 1.
Crafting[]
Crafting was used to change weapons into alternate versions of themselves within the player inventory. If the player gathered 1 Nuts 'n' Bolts, they could craft a new version of the weapon, as long as it had a respective rarity (The Common Assault Rifle for example cannot create a Suppressed Assault Rifle). Players could also obtain Cube Monster Parts to upgrade Sideways weaponry.

Upgrading[]
Cube Monster parts could have been used to upgrade sideways weaponry, in the same vein as crafting: Each Sideways Weapon could have been upgraded using Cube Monster Parts, from Common to Mythic. Only Uncommon weapons were accessible in game however, but the functionality for Common upgrading exists.Base Rarity | New Rarity | Requires | |
---|---|---|---|
Common | Uncommon | 10 | |
Uncommon | Rare | 15 | |
Rare | Epic | 20 | |

If the player gathered 1 Nuts 'n' Bolts, they could craft a new version of the weapon, as long as it had a respective rarity (The Common Assault Rifle for example cannot create a Suppressed Assault Rifle). Players could also obtain 1 Alien Nanites to change existing weapons into their IO or Alien Versions. Crafting did not change the rarity of the weapon.

Crafting[]
Crafting is a method of obtaining higher rarity weapons by changing them into Primal Versions, or into standard weaponry, which has been present throughout past seasons.
Crafting did not require an object to interact with, rather it was done inside the players inventory using acquired resources.
Items used[]
Name | Icon | Rarity | Found |
---|---|---|---|
Animal Bones | Common | Animal AI, Bone related structures, Floor Loot | |
Stink Sac | Uncommon | Frogs | |
Mechanical Parts | Common | Cars and Tractors, Floor Loot. | |
Gas Can | Common | Floor Loot | |
Stink Flopper | Uncommon | Fishing | |
Firefly Jar | Rare | Floor Loot, Chests | |
Grenades | Common | Floor Loot, Chests, Supply Llamas, Supply Drop | |
Shockwave Grenade | Epic | Floor Loot, Chests, Supply Llamas, Supply Drop |
Upgrading[]
Only Makeshift Weaponry, as well as the Mechanical Bow and the Primal Bow, could have been upgraded into another weapon. Makeshift weaponry was upgraded into its similar Primal version using Animal Bones. 2, 4 or 6 Animal Bones could have been used to advance a weapon into its Primal Version, with lower rarities requiring the least bones, and vice versa. Some weapons, such as the Makeshift Revolver, will change to a different weapon completely, upon upgrading using Animal Bones.
Makeshift weaponry could also be upgraded into standard weaponry using Mechanical Parts. 2, 4 or 6 Mechanical Parts could have been used to advance a weapon into its Standard Version, with lower rarities requiring the least bones, and vice versa.
Bows could have been upgraded from Rare to Epic, alongside 1 of 4 special modifiers, using extra items to upgrade them.
Regular weaponry and Primal weaponry could not be upgraded. Weapons may only be upgraded once per use.
Makeshift into Primal Weaponry[]
As a rule of thumb, upgrading a Common to Uncommon weapon cost 2 Animal Bones, upgrading an Uncommon to Rare weapon cost 4 Animal Bones and upgrading a Rare to Epic weapon cost 6 Animal Bones.
Below are a list of weapons that could have been upgraded, and what they are upgraded into:
Weapon | Icon | Rarities | Creates | Icon | Rarities | Requires |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Makeshift Bow | Uncommon | Primal Bow | Rare | 4 | ||

Makeshift into Standard or Mechanical Weaponry[]

Bows[]
Bows have a special upgrading system which uses other parts to create unique weaponry. However, upgrading a Makeshift Bow into a Primal or Mechanical Bow is no different from other Makeshift Weapons, and so has been included in the other tables:
Weapon | Icon | Rarities | Creates | Icon | Rarities | Requires |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Primal Bow | Rare | Primal Flame Bow | Epic | 1 | ||

Primal Stink Bow | Epic | 3 | ||||

Trivia[]
- In Chapter 3: Season 1, a crafting Milestone was present in game, but could not be completed. This was later removed in an update.
- This either meant that crafting was planned for this season, or it was a leftover from creating milestones earlier on in the game's development.
- The crafting requirements in Chapter 2: Season 6 were updated mid season, as on launch all recipes required 4 Animal Bones / Mechanical Parts, instead of 2/4/6 depending on rarity.
