The Double Barrel Shotgun is a shotgun in Fortnite: Battle Royale. it was added in Season 5. The Exotic version of this weapon is The Dub.

Functionality

The Double Barrel Shotgun is a weapon with very low range and a very small magazine. The purpose of the Double Barrel Shotgun is to deal high amounts of damage in very close situations, even closer than that of the Pump Shotgun. Landing all pellets from both its shots can knock a player from full health and shields with both of the gun's rarities.

Stats

Double Barrel Shotguns range from dealing 118-123 damage per shot (224.2 - 233.7 Damage Per Second). All Double Barrel Shotguns use Ammo Shells - Icon - Fortnite.png Shells and have a headshot multiplier of 1.5x. The maximum damage is capped at 145 to 150.

Unlike other Shotguns, the Double Barrel reloads both shells at once, instead of one at a time.

The Double Barrel Shotgun is a hitscan weapon, but fires a spread of 10 pellets when both aiming down sights and hipfiring. Aiming down sights tightens the spread of pellets.

Damage falloff:

  • Damage falloff begins at 3 meters (0.5 tiles).
  • Damage steadily decreases down to 80% of its maximum at 5 meters (1 tile).
  • Damage decreases down to 55% of its maximum at 10 meters (2 tiles).
  • It deals damage until 18 meters (3.5 tiles).

  • The Double Barrel Shotgun should be used at extremely close range, and it is forgiving enough that you can miss your first shot for a follow up one.
  • You can fully knock a player with either rarity if you land both shots accurately.
  • The Double Barrel Shotgun can deal up to 100 until 5m. Although its unlikely to happen for obvious reasons.
  • Although headshots are essential, its recommended aiming for the torso to compensate for its large spread and for hitting all of its shells on the target.
  • Because of its high damage to structures and fire rate, you can use it to take walls or to jump in boxes at your own risk. Be sure to have an assault rifle or a SMG as a follow-up.

Season 5

  • Update v5.20: Added Double Barrel Shotgun in Epic and Legendary rarities.
  • Update v5.30: Double Barrel Shotgun now has a -15% spread decrease when crouched.

Season 6

  • Update v6.00: Reduced base damage of the Double Barrel Shotgun from 144 Epic and 150 Legendary to 114 Epic and 120 Legendary.

Season 7

  • Update v7.00: Vaulted the Double Barrel Shotgun in both rarities.

Season 9

  • Content Update 2 v9.30 (July 12th): Unvaulted the Double Barrel Shotgun in both rarities.
    • July 13th: Vaulted the Double Barrel Shotgun in both rarities.

Chapter 2: Season 1

  • Update v11.31 (18th December): Unvaulted the Double Barrel Shotgun in Epic and Legendary rarities.
    • 19th December: Vaulted the Double Barrel Shotgun in Epic and Legendary rarities.

Chapter 3: Season 2

  • Update v20.30: Increased damage from 114/120 to 118/123 (this also increased the DPS of the weapon) and changed the multiplier from 1.25x to 1.5x. To combat these changes, the maximum damage is capped at 145/150.

Trivia

  • When it was originally added, the Legendary Double Barrel Shotgun had the highest DPS of any weapon at that time, with 285 (followed by the Rare Submachine Gun and Legendary Tactical Submachine Gun, both had a dps of 271).
  • Currently the Double Barrel Shotgun is the longest vaulted Shotgun. Last time being in Season X.
