Elimination, commonly refered to as Killing is a Gameplay Mechanic in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It describes how a player is removed from the playable game, unless they are Rebooted.

Description[]

Elimination is the act of removing all of a player's hitpoints. Elimination in solo modes is immediate, but in Squad based modes (Duos, Trios and Squads), players are instead knocked. Eliminated players drop all of their items onto the ground, plus a small amount of Bars. In Squad based modes, players also drop a Reboot Card, which can be used to reboot a player and bring them back into the game. Players can be eliminated through several different methods, whether self inflicted, by a squad member, or by an opponent.

Eliminated players can spectate other players in their squad, if the squad remains, or any player left if the squad has been eliminated. Eliminated players will show in the Elimination Feed upon being eliminated. If a player knocks an opponent, they will receive elimination credit upon their elimination, regardless of who eliminates the knocked player (This is not shown in the Elimination Feed).

AI, such as bosses, or henchmen, can be knocked.

In Team Rumble[]

In Team Rumble, despite being a squad based mode, players do not get knocked, but instead die immediately as respawning is enabled. Furthermore, players will not drop any inventory items, and ammo and bars will spawn from where they were eliminated, rather than being deducted from said player's resources.

Fortnitemares 2020[]

In Fortnitemares 2020, players would not be knocked, and even in solo modes they would turn into a Shadow. Players could then obtain a Victory Royale by working with other shadows to eliminate all remaining players.

Down But Not Out (DBNO)[]

Down But Not Out (DBNO for short), or the Knocked State is a state in which the player goes into when eliminated in a standard team-based mode. Knocked players cannot use items or use any movement abilities aside from basic movement, and basic swimming.

Knocked players gain temporary invulnerability for a few seconds after being knocked, to prevent instant elimination. They have 100 health, which decreases at a rate of 2 health per second. This health can be replenished using healing methods like a Campfire, Chug Splash, or other items that allow healing of teammates. Knocked players cannot have Shield, but if eliminated by fall damage or storm damage, they will retain the Shield they had prior to being knocked, upon being revived. Players are revived with 30 health, regardless of their health prior to being knocked.

Knocked players can be revived by teammates by holding the Interact key for 10 seconds (5 seconds in Reload playlists) on the downed player. The revival process speeds up if multiple teammates assist. Knocked players can also be carried and thrown. A squad will be eliminated if no more than two members remain standing, and the last standing player is eliminated.

Trivia[]

  • When a player is eliminated, a Spawn Drone appears to pick up the body and quickly flies away.
  • Players who are knocked can use ziplines, and gain the anti-gravity effects of them.
  • Squad members can eliminate other squad members by either destroying a structure to cause elimination by fall damage, or set them on fire.
  • When a player is eliminated, there's a chance that eliminated player will drop a victory crown. This will only happen if said eliminated player has at least one in their inventory. When it does happen an icon of said item will pop up for everyone (except spectators of viewing another player upon elimination) on their screen, it'll disappear when someone picks it up.
