Item Shop Appearances[]

Shadow Midas has appeared in 29 different Item Shops, on 28 different days.

Why are there shops labelled as 'parts'?
For varying reasons, Epic Games may decide to add or remove items from the Item Shop before the usual rotation occurs. The Fortnite Wiki treats each change to the Item Shop within a single day as a separate 'part' that makes up the day's Item Shop History.
Why are there two different numbers for Shadow Midas's appearances?
Shadow Midas has, on at least one occasion, appeared in more than one shop in a single day. This has resulted in its count for appearances in the Item Shop being higher than the amount of days it has appeared in it. Both counts are listed by the Fortnite Wiki in order to be as accurate as possible, unlike other sources.

Trivia[]

  • Shadow Midas' Shadow touch recycles the textures of the Midas' Shadow Wrap.
    • The reactivity wasn't permanent unlike the other Midas Outfits with a similar effect. Either due to a bug or the cursed nature of Shadow Midas.
  • Before Update v18.30 another version of Shadow Midas was in the works, where his reactivity worked differently from how it is now. This version of Shadow Midas' Outfit also used the renders featured on his Boss Outfit.
    • During Update v18.20, only his right hand and head were corrupted and the rest of him was gold, to which the corruption would slowly consume Midas and convert all gold elements to purple whilst emitting a purplish shadowy glow, making him appear much like how he does now unlike with the current version where he is all purple from the start and then slowly glow.

Behavior[]

He is passive to players who are Shadows. However, if the player attacks him or his Henchmen, he will become hostile against them.

Trivia[]

  • Shadow Midas' Boss Outfit ID is CID_NPC_Athena_Commando_M_CatBurglar_Ghost.
    • The renders for Shadow Midas' Boss Outfit depicts him with one fogged eye, similar to the original Midas. However, in-game as both a Boss and an Outfit, both eyes are normal.
  • Additional ghostly effects and glowing eyes were applied on the Shadow Midas Boss in-game. These effects were absent in both Unreleased and Updated versions of the Outfit.
  • Shadow Midas was the only Boss from Chapter 2: Season 4 to not drop a Superpower.
  • After Fortnitemares 2020 ended, Shadow Midas' voice could occasionally be heard echoing throughout The Ruins. Even using some of the original Midas' voice samples.

Lore[]

This fall, vengeance is a dish best served... gold.
Fortnitemares: Midas' Revenge

Shadow Midas was a ghoulish entity possessing power from the realm of Shadows. He sought revenge after the The Device failed in Chapter 2: Season 2. However, this revenge plan would also fail due to the release of the Zero Point from The Ruins by Galactus.

He is a supporting antagonist in Fortnite, serving as the titular main antagonist of Fortnitemares: Midas' Revenge, as well as the secondary antagonist of Chapter 2: Season 4.

History[]

Chapter 2: Season 4[]

Prior to Fortnitemares 2020, Midas' Golden Chair mysteriously appeared in The Authority. After a ritual with it was performed, Shadow Midas appeared and took over the newly-ruined location in the Midas' Revenge event. He appeared as a boss in the Ruins of the Authority with his own Special version of Midas' Drum Gun. Shadow Midas successfully managed to "hack" the Reboot System and Loop to get rid of Reboot Cards. He made it so that when Loopers were eliminated, they returned once more as a Shadow, creating his own army. His plan would eventually fail when Galactus destroyed The Ruins and the eye of the island by exposing the Zero Point. Shadow Midas' current whereabouts are unknown.

Lore Trivia[]

  • It's often debated if Midas and Shadow Midas are the same entity or different individuals, as there is conflicting evidence to support both arguments.
    • The promotional material of Fortnitemares 2020 and the outfit both market him as "Midas' Return."
    • The Outfit's promotional post from Fortnite's Twitter had a short clip of the Original Midas transforming into Shadow Midas.
    • In-game, several Characters treat him as the Original Midas in Special Dialogue with him.
    • During the Midas' Revenge event, the Original Midas' Golden Chair was present at The Ruins.
    • Bunker Jonesy says in his Chapter 2: Season 5 Quest dialogue that he doesn't "think the Midas that returned was the same Midas."
  • A commonly theorized explanation is that Shadow Midas was simply a deceased snapshot seeking revenge for his Original Counterpart's failure. However, this theory has several inconsistencies.
    • Using the Original Midas' Chair to summon a Snapshot wouldn't make sense.
    • Shadow Midas still has his body and is not a Shadow. He also still keeps his intelligence and has no stereotypically undead attributes, meaning that he is likely still alive.
  • Another probable theory is that Shadow Midas is the Original Midas, who did a ritual to gain shadowy powers for revenge.
    • His set(s), "Shadow Seeker" and "ShadeChaser" imply that he himself sought the power of the shadows.
    • Unlike the Shadows who are bodiless ghosts, Shadow Midas keeps his body and does not obtain any undead attributes. His Eye even heals itself. This implies that something took place that healed and empowered him rather than resurrection.
    • Ascendant Midas is able to freely turn between his human form and his Shade form, it is therefore possible that Shadow Midas was only a transformation of Midas, generated by the ritual and not a separate entity.
  • Many reasonably believed Shadow Midas was Midas returning from the dead after he was "killed" by a shark. However, this isn't possible as Donald Mustard confirmed in a twitter post that Original Midas never died and was in The Loop when he was attacked by the shark.
