The Foundation

The Zero Point is a Nigh-Omnipotent lore entity in Battle Royale. It is the second primordial entity born after The Nothing. It is the source of the Big Bang, heart of Reality Zero and the origin of all reality in the Omniverse.

In Reality Zero, it was usually located at the center of the Island, under Loot Lake in Chapter 1/3, under Eye Land in Chapter 2 and near The Apparatus in Chapter 4.

The Zero Point was first was briefly mentioned in the Blast Off event by The Visitor, briefly appeared in The Butterfly Event, and fully revealed in The Unvaulting Event.

The storyline for Chapters 1 - 3 centers around it, but was focused on less in Chapter 4 although it still played a role at the end during Fortnite OG. What happened to it after The Big Bang remains unknown.

Overview[]

Big Bang - Comic - Fortnite

The Zero Point is a nexus orb that is where all of reality apparently sprang from. It cycles through countless realities per second and can be used as an infinite power source or as a bridge to other realities. It appears to have an outer hull/shell surrounding and containing a central core, consisting of dozens of tendrils of pure energy, with the ability to open portals. The tendrils can become entangled, as seen in the Zero Crisis Finale. During that event, The Foundation caused the Zero Point to bloom by untangling the tendrils in an effort to stop it from imploding. It was ultimately not enough, and the Foundation was forced to create The Spire.

Reality Wave - Zero Crisis Finale - Fortnite

It possesses the power to alter reality in any way possible. During its unstable state, it can send out reality waves that randomly alter the very fabric of time and space. These reality waves can restore locations from a specific moment, during Season X, It changes Dusty Divot back to Dusty Depot a moment before The Meteor hit and freeze it in time.

Geno - Collision - Fortnite

For thousands of years, The Imagined Order abuses The Zero Point by using it as a bridge to different realities and bring their "order" to them. They also use it to maintain The Loop, seemingly enclosing the entire island in a dome like 'field.'

After Chapter 3: Season 2, The Imagined Order forces in Reality Zero was defeated; Freeing the Zero Point from their control.

Reality Zero Heart Beat - Fracture - Fortnite

The Zero Point usually shows its sentience during impending dangers. During Chapter 3: Season 3, The Zero Point was summoning relics from other realities as a means of communication. The Scientist sent The Looper and AMIE to recover them. Every time they did, a Zero Point energy shockwave was released. The Scientist notes reveal the shockwaves it had been causing were a galactic distressed signal (a flare); It was sending a message for help from the next threat; but it was too late. The Zero Point later went dormant at that time.

After the destruction of Artemis and Apollo, the Zero Point awakened; gathering the surviving pieces from both of the islands. With the help of AMIE and The Looper; The Zero Point is restored to full power. The Paradigm initiates Zero Fusion and pieces from different realities come together to form Asteria. The Zero Point hid under Hidden Henge for that time period.

In Chapter 4: Season 3, The Zero Point was exposed again after part of the Island's surface collapsed due to earthquakes caused by MEGA City's impact. However, The Zero Point had entered a petrified state from losing a lot of its energy from Zero Fusion.

In Fortnite OG's reality, the resulting effect of The End was different from the original; The Zero Point of this timeline also collided with the Meteor and Athena was sucked into it, just as it happened in Reality Zero. However; The Blackhole was altered due to Jones' interference with time, and it instead exploded resulting in another Big Bang, replacing Fortnite OG's Reality with plenty of new Galaxies containing different Realities, including the Helios island.

Gameplay Functionality[]

  • In Chapter 4
    • The Zero Point cannot be interacted with.
Zero Point Tunnel - Fracture - Fortnite
  • In Chapter 2 and 3
    • Player will get sucked into the Zero Point upon contact. They will gain small amounts of Health and Shield before getting ejected from the Zero Point.
  • In Chapter 1
    • Player will get Rifted to the sky upon contact with the Zero Point.

Personality[]

The Zero Point is a very enigmatic entity whose intentions are very difficult to pin down. Although completely aware of everything that is happening, it lets things happen even when it involves its own state, allowing itself to be enslaved and abused by the Imagined Order. When threat such as Galactus attacked it, it let things happen and simply attempted to annihilate reality to destroy Galactus by becoming a Black Hole again, without caring about the people living in Reality Zero. But on the other hand, it called for help and tried to warn the Islanders of The Herald's arrival and defended itself when The Last Reality tried to capture it. Making it obvious that it tolerates almost everything, never intervening and leaving people to deal with their problems on their own, except when The Nothing and the fate of the whole Omniverse are involved.

Appearance[]

The Zero Point is a large glowing orb that is constantly emitting the power of creation in the shape of plant-like tendrils. The interior of the orb is hollow and big enough to fit a person inside but it is also the place that contains the raw power of creation.

  • Stable State - It glows a bright blue color.
  • Unstable State - It will slowly change from glowing light blue to dark red. Environment surrounding it will be distorted.
  • Bloom State - Special state that the Zero Point occasionally enters when it becomes extremely unstable. The Zero Point will shape its tendrils into the shape of a gigantic lotus flower. After the flower fully materializes it will release all of its unstable energy across the sky in an attempt to stabilize itself.
  • Dormant State - Dark, but with a faint blue light at the center of the orb. Low power.
  • Petrified State - Silicified, constantly groaning. No power left.
  • Big Bang State - A massive Kaleidoscope explosion with lotus flower layers which resulted in the creation of The Omniverse.

History[]

The Big Bang[]

Big Bang - Comic - Fortnite
  • According to The Foundation, "In the beginning there was Nothing. Then, in a burst of pure creation, the Zero Point sprang into being." Countless realities originated from the Zero Point, each its own universe and multiverse.

Before Chapter 1[]

  • Eons ago and very far away, the stars blinked out, one by one. Until there were only a few left. Then, a "brilliant owl" helped a "clever fox" chew a hole through the world. And that tear ripped open all of space, filling the vast emptiness with an eternity of new stars.[1]
  • Thousand years ago, The Imagined Order uses the Zero Point to do dangerous things, like Traveling to different realties, bringing order to everything, changing and altering reality's history and developments to their liking, kidnapping people and putting them on The Island aswell as into The Loop. This is why The Seven wish to abolish the Imagined Order.

Season 4[]

The Crack

Crack in the Sky

  • The Zero Point is briefly mentioned by The Visitor as he says:
    ā–¶ļø

"Zero Point Oscillator On. Set coordinates. Engaging quantum fuel accelerator"

This may hint that The Visitor used the energy of The Zero Point to open the rifts through spacetime. The Rocket travels through several rifts around the map in a live event, eventually boosting into the sky and breaking through the space-time fabric, creating a giant Sideways Rift in the sky that would stay throughout the remainder of Season 4 and most of Season 5.
Cube Cracking - Event - Fortnite

Cube searching for Zero Point

Season 6[]

The In-Between - Butterfly - Fortnite

The In-Between

  • After the Cube melted into Loot Lake, it rose from the waters, forming the Floating Island. This created a large hole in the lake, a vortex at the exact spot of The Vault's entrance.
  • During Fortnitemares 2018, The Cube began to crack. On November 3, it began to drip its nectar into The Zero Point. On November 4, 2018, The Cube explodes after it's final drop, and The Loopers were teleported to The In-Between. Shortly after, a rift formed, and took the shape of a Butterfly, landed on everyone's finger and teleported everyone back to the Island. Loot Lake appears to be completely new and altered.
  • The Zero Point is located at the bottom center of The In-Between, a light beam can be seen coming out of it.

Season 8[]

Zero Point - Unvaulting - Fortnite

The Zero Point inside The Vault

  • The Vault was opened and players were able to choose between 8 items to come back (The Drum Gun was eventually chosen)
  • This is the first appearance of the Zero Point in its stable and contained state, appearing much bigger then it actually is.

Season 9[]

Zero Point Powers Mecha - Final Showdown - Fortnite
  • A large cable is built stretching from the Vault to Neo Tilted, allowing the city to harness the power of the Zero Point.
  • During The Final Showdown, The Devourer, hungering for the Zero Point, attacks The Vault and badly injures Mecha Team Leader. This left Mecha with no choice but to break through the Vault's metal entrance and grab the Zero Point to absorb some of it's energy, cracking its outer shell in the process. Mecha then used the collected energy from the Zero Point to power the Statue Of Singularity Sword and defeat the monster once and for all. The Zero Point's energy from the sword causes The Devourer's corpse to quickly decompose.
  • This ultimately left the Zero Point cracked and floating above the Vault, and so it began to rapidly destabilize during the remaining days of the season.

Season X[]

The Vault (Season X) - Location - Fortnite

Out of Time

  • The Zero Point explodes, but becomes frozen in time upon the arrival of The Scientist. A bubble around the Zero Point holds various objects and vehicles, suspended in space and time. The interior of the bubble acts as a low-gravity zone, and the Zero Point itself acting as a large, infinitely usable rift.
  • The Scientist leaves his pod in the frozen meteor and settles at Dusty Depot, creating several rift beacons that absorb the energy being emitted by the Zero Point, using it to create rifts in the sky. The space around each rift beacon, once activated, was swapped with another reality. Places like Greasy Grove and Tilted Town were similar, but had key differences like the Tacos restaurant, or the entire area being an old west town. Even Dusty Depot itself was from another reality, as indicated by the differently colored warehouses.

The End[]

Black Hole Sucking Everything - The End - Fortnite

The End of Athena

  • The Scientist constructs a rocket at Dusty Depot, and during The End Live Event six more rockets emerge from each of the rifts. They all circle around the island several times, and then warp the meteor, unfreeze it, and suck it into a rift. With the meteor removed from the map, a rocket forms a rift in the sky, directly above the Zero Point, and travels through it. The rocket slams into the Zero Point, sending out a shockwave that blasts all the Loopers into the sky. Shortly after, the Meteor, along with six other rockets, travel through the same rift and falls onto Loot Lake, being held up by the bubble until it finally pops, and the Meteor slams into The Zero Point. This causes it to explode and release a massive burst of energy onto the island, after which the remnants of The Zero Point then collapse and condense into a black hole that shreds the entire island and sucks it inside, causing The Loop to break temporarily.
  • Following the event, the game is unplayable for two days, and logging in revealed the black hole, swirling blue and energised matter around itself. Matter that used to be the island.
  • At this point, Galactus notices the pure energy being released by the Zero Point.

Chapter 2: Season 1[]

  • After the two days, the black hole imploded, reforming and restoring the Zero Point, releasing and reorganizing the matter around it, thus creating The Chapter 2 Island, with 10 all new locations; Some locations (Namely Pleasant Park, Retail Row and Salty Springs) however, survived this reorganization without major changes. The Loop was also rebooted and reset, continuing the infinite battle royale on the island. The Zero Point is now stable and contained again, hidden deep underground Eye Land in The Bridge, a top secret Imagined Order facility built as a bridge between all the worlds.

Doomsday Device (Stage 4) - Object - Fortnite

Midas' Doomsday Device

Chapter 2: Season 2[]

  • Midas potentially used the Zero Point in order to attempt to push back The Storm in The Loop. The Device began to effect the storm about halfway through the season, resulting in the first storm circle taking 5 minutes and 30 seconds instead of the usual 3 minutes 30 seconds along with storm circles to be very far away from the center of the Island, ultimately failing and creating a giant tsunami.

Chapter 2: Season 4[]

Zero Point Pull - Galactus - Fortnite

Galactus exposing the Zero Point.

Eating In-Between - Galactus - Fortnite

Galactus consuming the Zero Point

  • Galactus finally arrives to the island during the Devourer of Worlds event. He tears apart The Ruins by ripping the Zero Point out of The Bridge, and begins to absorb it's energy with his hand. The Zero Point cracks under the strain, and starts sucking the entire island into itself and transport the pieces to it's realm, The In-Between. There, Galactus continues to absorb the Zero Point's energy more and more until The In-Between's outer shell disappears, revealing the solar system. The battle ends with Galactus being defeated and rifted back to his home reality with The Zero Shard.
  • Inside The Bridge, chaos occurs. The activities occurring during the event caused severe damage to the facility, and Agent Jones was ultimately knocked out in the process.

Chapter 2: Season 5[]

The Zero Point - Landmark - Fortnite

The Zero Point Desert

  • The Zero Point is left exposed, and its presence on the island itself allows any of the loopers to escape Imagined Order captivity. Doctor Slone orders Agent Jones to re-enter Apollo in order to stop anyone escaping the loop and to reseal The Bridge from Apollo and its savage inhabitants. He hires several bounty hunters from different realities to assist in the process, and The Imagined Order provides a supply of IO Guards to assist in the process. However he misses a warning to not attract The Seven to the island.
  • The Zero Point could have been seen in a very destabilized state, cracked and pulsing with energy. Following The Devourer of Worlds, The Zero Point reorganized the matter in the center of the island into a desert, filled with Zero Point Crystals. It also brought back pieces of several locations from the previous Island, such as The Pizza Pit and Flush Factory. Oddly enough, they were placed in roughly the same areas as they were originally. Standing or gliding near The Zero Point gave out a strange, out-of-focus/tri-colored appearance to the character and surrounding area, and touching it plays a short animation where the player is seemingly sucked into it before being shot out on the opposite side of where you release through with a low-gravity effect. This regenerates the players health and gives about 48 shield if already on full health.
Typhoon Portal - Zero Point Portal - Fortnite

A Pure Portal.

  • Agent Jones uses his Portal Device to open Pure Portals and bring lots of alternate reality characters onto the island. However, this also causes The Zero Point to destabilize even further.
Zero Point Pulse - Event - Fortnite

Unstable Reality Waves

  • Update v15.50: 2 weeks before Season 6, the Zero Point started turning purple and shattered even further, sending out Reality Waves every few hours, showing its clear destabilization. It also started sending waves to the Portals, and the Zero Point instability started being reflected into the Portals. As the days passed the Portals became more unstable, the Zero Point more purple and Reality Waves were sent out more frequently, happening every two minutes.
  • During the end of the season, Agent Jones outlines in his Reality Logs that he has become frustrated with The Imagined Order barely helping out with The Zero Point destabilization problem. He finds out that his access to 'Restricted File 8752', a file that contains all information related to The Seven, had been revoked by the Imagined Order. Agent Jones then decides to take matters into his own hands and brings one of The Seven onto the Island to help him re-stabilize the Zero Point and save reality.

The Spire Forming - Zero Crisis Finale - Fortnite

Zero Crisis Finale

  • Agent Jones cuts off his connection with Doctor Slone and betrays The Imagined Order, contacting The Seven for help with stabilizing The Zero Point. He calibrates his Portal Device and throws it into The Zero Point, which brings the leader of The Seven, The Foundation to the Island. The Foundation emerges from his capsule and attacks Jones, head-butting him and kicking him into a rock. However, Jones manages to convince The Foundation to help stabilize The Zero Point in exchange for getting him to Geno and The Sisters. In the ensuing Zero Crisis Finale event, The Foundation untangles and attempts to stabilize The Zero Point, as it periodically releases reality waves that randomly alter the very fabric of spacetime. However, The Foundation fails in stabilizing The Zero Point, so he creates a Spire that extends all the way down to The Bridge, sealing himself in in the process. He did this in order to contain the blast, cut the Imagined Order's connection with it, and heal the Zero Point. As this occurs, The Zero Point sends out a final reality wave, sending part of the Island back to primal times.
  • Throughout the rest of the season, The Zero Point remains sealed with The Foundation in The Spire.
  • Later in the season. Raz, a follower of The Cube, became corrupted by the Spire Artifact, a piece of the Spire's core. Raz then used the combination of The Cube and Zero Point Crystals to attack everyone near the Spire.

Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point[]

  • Batman breaks the Spire within the Bridge, revealing that the Zero Point had moved there; he then used it to go home. Deathstroke secretly places an Anchor Device within The Bridge, so the IO can regain their access to the Zero Point's power and use it remotely.

Chapter 2: Season 7[]

The Bridge (Zero Point) - Impostors - Fortnite
  • The Zero Point is currently contained within the underwater complex of The Bridge, and is stabilized with its outer shell completely healed. It grows blue Zero Point Crystals daily.

The End (Chapter 2)[]

  • The Foundation and Agent Jones use the the Zero Point to flip the island. The Bridge was destroyed by the Last Reality, with a final blow being a flood caused by a Caretaker. Therefore, this stopped all the activity around the Zero Point.

Trivia[]

  • If the big bang is the same as in real life, the Zero Point's age should be about 13.8 billion years old.
    • However as the time of the realities differ from one to another, the Zero Point may be older.
  • Although supposedly unique, it has been shown on several occasions that the Zero Point also existed simultaneously in other realities similar to Reality Zero.
    • A Zero Point is seen in a realistic Reality similar to the Island unveiled in the Cinematic Trailer of Chapter 2: Season 6.
    • Another is seen in Fortnite OG's Reality.
    • Fusion also use an orb almost identical to the Zero Point, although it is smaller.
  • In Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War, it is heavily implied that Vibranium originated from the Zero Point.
  • In Batman/Fortnite: Foundation, The Batman Who Laughs implied that World Forge's creation power is a lesser version of the Zero Point's creation power.
  • In the deleted scene of the Fracture event, The Zero Point is shown to be able to destroy The Mothership on its own and also be able to escape and move on its own.
    • In the final version of Fracture, the Zero Point showed instead the ability to disappear and reappear at a much farther location in the Omniverse
  • Zero-point energy (ZPE) is a real type of energy that is found in objects close to absolute zero, the coldest theoretical temperature any object can reach before it loses nearly all energy (0Ā°K/Kelvin, about -273Ā° Celsius). It keeps these objects stable, and is also part of the reason why Helium can remain a liquid at close to 0Ā°K. This may be linked to the Zero Point, not just by name, but by strength (ZPE is quite strong) and application (Most of space is close to absolute zero, yet particles are still created and it is still stable thanks to ZPE partly).
  • Since the Zero Point in Chapter 2: Season 5 could give you full health, players used this to their advantage to get free wins by making a sky base inside the Zero Point, so they don't fall down. Luckily this was patched, now that players don't have enough health to survive the storm.
  • The In-Between could possibly be a defense mechanism for the Zero Point, used every time it or the Island are in danger.
  • The End's leitmotifs usually plays when the Zero Point is involved.
  • Zero is the humanoid version of The Zero Point in the release of Chapter 2: Season 1.
  • In the game files, The Zero Point's Material is usually made out of "T_Glass_Cracks_M" texture painted with blue combined with a Material Function called "WorldSpaceAlignedScreenCoordinates" and Fresnel.
    • Chapter 1: Season 8's version has an extra texture called "T_ButterflyStarField_D" for the starry effects inside the orb.
    • Chapter 2 cracked version utilizes the World Position Offset Material Functions for the unstable shaking.
