The battle is building!
Drop into the Battle Royale. Loot, build, explore and fight in a game of 100 players competing to be the last one standing.
— In-Game Description

Battle Royale is the PvP (Player versus Player) mode in Fortnite that was released on September 26, 2017. Players must drop onto an island and fight to be the last one surviving.

Variants

Battle Royale is available in these Playlists:

Gameplay

Upon loading into a Battle Royale match, players will spawn on Spawn Island, a place where they can wait until the Battle Bus is ready to fly over the island. Upon entering the Battle Bus, players will have 15 seconds to jump out and skydive to wherever they want on the island.

After landing, players must find loot either on the floor or through Chests to obtain weaponry, heals, materials and utility items. The Harvesting Tool is an item that allows players to harvest materials from objects that can be destroyed around the world. After a minute, the Eye of the Storm, a safe zone will be marked on the Minimap. Players start out with 100 HP and 0 Shield. Shield can be obtained by consuming items that grant shield.

Players have roughly 3 minutes until The Storm starts closing in. After the storm reaches the eye, another grace period begins and the eye of the storm shrinks. This process is repeated until the match ends. Any player in the storm will have their health damage, which increases after each time the storm closes in until it hits 10 DPS. The storm directly hits your health, whether or not you have shield. Prolonged presence in the storm causes Storm Sickness, which will deal more damage to a player's health.

Players eliminated during the match cannot respawn and will have their loot dropped, allowing for other players to obtain their items if they wish. There are 7 types of rarities of items, with the standard 5 (Common - Legendary) being available through regular gameplay. Mythic Weapons are usually obtained by defeating a boss at a specific location and Template:Exotics are obtained by purchasing them with Characters, NPCs that offer items and advantages in exchange for Bars, a currency that persists across every match.

Materials can be used to build structures such as Walls, Stairs, Roofs and Cones. These structures can be edited to shoot through or get out of a player-built structures. Enemy-built structures cannot be edited, so the player must shoot through them.

Once a player is the last one standing, they will recieve a Victory Crown and Victory Royale. Having a Victory Crown prior to winning results in a Crowned Victory Royale.

In matches with more than one player on a team, such as Duos, Trios and Squads, players will be knocked down after loosing all their health, and can crawl on the floor at a reduced speed. Knocked Players cannot use items and their HP will deplete, until they are fully eliminated and drop a reboot card. Reboot Cards expire after a set amount of time and can be collected to reboot fallen allies at Reboot Vans. If all players on a team are eliminated, then that team looses the match.

Seasons

There are periods of times called "Seasons" which bring significant changes to the island and the lootpool, while also developing the story. Each season has a theme that coincides with the Battle Pass, causing most gameplay changes to be related to the theme.

Story

Battle Royale has a story in which Reality Zero, where the island is located, is in a 22-minute time loop and The Zero Point, the epicenter of all of reality is constantly under threat. The Loop is maintained by the Imagined Order, which is opposed by The Seven.

Limited Time Modes

There are playlists that deviate from the standard ruleset of Battle Royale. This can include changing the lootpool or changing how the game is played.
