This section outlines a strategy. Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic.

Fortnite: Battle Royale is the most popular, and main PvP gamemode in Fortnite. Because of this, players will need a strategy to be able to survive and get the Victory Royale. Players can also be killed by entities in Battle Royale, whether they are AIs, or The Storm. Below is a list of tips for Fortnite: Battle Royale that many players may not know.

General

  • In Battle Royale, 100 players will jump off of a Battle Bus, whether they are in teams of 1, 2, 3, or 4. In each game, players will gather loot and survive The Storm, as well as eliminating players until they are the last ones standing. At this point, they will get the Victory Royale.
  • There are different Controls depending on what platform you are playing on. A good idea if you are starting to play Fortnite on a new platform is to go into a game of Fortnite: Creative or Battle Lab and get used to the controls.
  • You can also select between different Game Settings to alter the way you play Battle Royale (please note that this also applies for Save The World and Creative). If you are playing Fortnite on a Windows PC or a macOS, you can choose keybinds, which select the functions of different keys on the keyboard.
  • If you have a bad device you may want to consider turning on performance mode to boost performance or turning down your graphics a small bit.

The Storm

  • The Storm is an entity in Battle Royale that closes in at different times, and deals damage to players who are in it. It does not deal damage to your shield.
    • The areas where The Storm will close in to can be displayed on the minimap. Make sure you are not going beyond the purple line, as that is where the storm is.
    • The damage that the storm deals varies, and so does the speed that the storm closes in. The Storm will deal more damage later into the match, making it more of a priority for players to evade it.
    • A good way of evading the storm is to land at a location that is near the center of the island. This way, it will not matter where the storm closes in, you will easily be able to get there. Additionally, a good strategy is to make sure you always have a form of transportation that is easily accessible, whether it is a Grappler, or a Vehicle.
    • The Storm will not deal damage on the first phase if you are standing on the blue water near Slurpy Swamp, however this is not recommended.

Looting

  • Looting is a priority at the start of a game of Battle Royale. You will have to carry something that will deal damage to other players, and collect loot of better Rarity as you progress. Loot can come from Chests, Ammo Boxes, Faction Chests, Supply Drops, and Supply Llamas.
  • A good loadout will consist of 3 weapons (2 of them should ideally be an Assault Rifle and a Shotgun), and 2 consumable items/1 consumable and 1 throwable (Ideally a consumable that gives you Shield.)

AIs

  • AIs are different entities in Fortnite that have the ability eliminate players. Some good ways of taking them down are to not make too much sound, and to shoot at them from a far away radius.
    • Bots - Bots are entities introduced in Season X that act as regular opponents in Fortnite: Battle Royale. They are usually fairly simple to eliminate.
    • Boars and wolves - These AI can be killed for meat and a few bones and can also be tamed. When given meat or bones they will stop attacking and start eating which gives you a chance to tame them. You can also craft the hunters cloak so that they won't attack you and you can tame them without giving them anything.
    • Spire guardians - These AI can be found at the 6 smaller spires and can be hard to eliminate. They have a relatively large health pool and can dash forward making it hard to hit and kill them. They each carry a purple primal rifle that can quickly kill you at medium range and are somewhat effective at close range. Make sure to stock up on shield and heals before fighting. When they are eliminated they also drop an odd ball you can pick up. If you take this to the spire and place it in the correct monument at the base of the spire you will be rewarded with the mythic spire jump boots. These boots can be useful for mobility and preventing fall damage.
    • Monsters - Monsters will spawn out of either Cube Spawners or Ice Spawners. They have the ability to break down structures, tiles and props, and they drop different rarities of loot depending on how difficult they are to eliminate.
    • Marauders - Marauders will spawn out of meteors that land on different locations on the island. There are 3 types of Marauders - Assault Marauders, Heavy Marauders and Deadeye Marauders. They are easy to eliminate, however they spot players from a long range and have good aim.
    • Loot Sharks - Loot Sharks will spawn near Coral Castle. They will drop weapons, ammunition and materials, however they can swallow weapons as well. They are moderately easy to eliminate, as long as you are on land and ideally on a high point of terrain. These are also rideable. To ride them, you need to put a Fishing Rod on the water, and wait for the Loot Shark to bite it.
    • Henchmen - Henchmen will spawn in Spy Bases. Their main function is to defend bosses that drop Mythic weapons. They are normally easy to find and eliminate and will drop moderately good loot. There are two primary types of henchmen - SHADOW henchmen, and GHOST henchmen.
    • Bosses - Bosses are arguably the most difficult AI to eliminate. However, these bosses are worth eliminating, because they drop a Mythic weapon/item which is a weapon that typically has a lot of power in the match with gives you a higher chance of winning with the Mythic loot.
    • Stark Robots - These will spawn at Quinjet Patrol Sites, and the Stark Industries Location. These bots are unique in that they can be "Hacked" when knocked down. When hacked, they will join your team. They will drop Stark Industries Energy Rifles. These robots were in an earlier season which will most likely not be returning for another Avengers crossover.
    • Gorgers and Gatherers - Gorgers and Gatherers are bots controlled by Galactus that spawn from the sky at the start of a match. Gorgers will release Gatherers, and they can be eliminated by shooting at yellow glowing spots in the eye. This is from an earlier season.
    • Zombies - Zombies are AIs that were only in-game in Fortnitemares, they would come out of random objects when destroyed and jumpscare the players, and will attack the player.
    • Mando's Bounty Hunters - Mando's Bounty Hunters are AIs that roam around the island and drop items in Mando's Bounty LTM, they are all AIs in the NPC Bosses category. They can sometimes sell Exotic items for gold. These AIs were found in Chapter 2 Season 5 when Mando was in the Battle Pass.
    • Interactive Bots - These bots also can sell Exotic weapons, and sometimes can be dueled to get specific weapons that are worth fighting for. Some bots such as Tarana and Raz can be spoken to for the Spire quests to get extra styles and XP.

Damage

  • Damage can be taken very easily in Battle Royale, and it is best for players to know how to avoid taking damage. Below is a list of every way players can take damage, and how to avoid it.
    • Players - Players (and AIs/The Storm) do have the ability to damage you in Battle Royale - It wouldn't be any fun if they didn't! To avoid players from dealing damage to you, a good strategy is to either be behind a tile, or build your own tile.
    • Fall Damage - Fall Damage can be taken from jumping off of an excessively high point of terrain. To avoid this, Crash Pads are an option, and any other item that can prevent this. Landing in water should also be a priority.
    • Drowning - It is very hard to drown in Fortnite, and almost impossible to do it accidentally. However, it is possible, which players will need to take into account and not swim too far down.
    • Vehicles - If a vehicle is going at a high speed and is heading towards you, run out of it's path unless it is your teammates. Do not shoot at it or attempt to jump over it. It will deal a high amount of damage if it crashes into you. If your teammate is in the vehicle then it will bounce you far from the car like a impulse grenade.
    • Glitches - Glitches are almost impossible to do accidentally, but if you feel that the action your are doing will result in a glitch, don't do it. Glitches will likely kill you instantly.

Camping

  • Camping is a strategy in Battle Royale that involves hiding from other players so they cannot find you, which will prevent them from eliminating you. Below is a list of occasions in which it is a good idea to Camp, and the best places for performing this action.
    • Occasions where it is a good idea to camp.
      • When an opponent is looking for you and you are not good enough or underequipped to fight.
      • When you are on low Health/Shield and you need to heal.
      • When you are not good enough or underequipped to directly fight enemies.
    • Best places for performing this action.
      • There are certain items that are used specifically for camping, such as the Bush, Sneaky Snowman or Creepin’ Cardboard. Unfortunately these are vaulted right now.
      • There are large bushes that can contain more than one player scattered around the Apollo island. They are good for hiding in while healing and crafting as you will not be seen.
      • Another commonly used strategy is to simply surround yourself in tiles and regain your Health/Shield.
      • Beginning in C2 S1 certain hay bales, dumpsters, and portable toilets allowed you to hide in them.
    • Tips for camping.
      • Boxing up is the most visible form of camping and if you box up try to stay still so enemies will not see you in the box or use metal.
      • When boxing up build a pyramid on the top of your box. From there you can edit peek by going to the top with a ramp (this can be a stair or a pyramid placed on the floor edited as a ramp) and enabling editing on the pyramid but do not make any changes. This will allow you to look around while inside your box.
      • Aim down sight near the edge of a large bush to see outside of the bush without enemies being able to see in.
      • Hold still while inside a large bush or a garbage can as they will shake a little bit and make a bit of noise.

Fishing

  • Fishing is a mechanic in Battle Royale that allows players to obtain loot from throwing a Fishing Rod or a Pro Fishing Rod into some water.
  • The Pro Fishing Rod allows players to obtain some unique variants of Fish. See Fishing Collection Book for the full list of obtainable fish. Fishing is the primary way of obtaining fish.
  • If a Loot Shark bites your fishing rod, you will be riding that loot shark as a form of transportation.
  • Another way of fishing is to fire a Harpoon Gun at Fishing Spots. This will quickly pick up a fish, or another form of loot.
  • Fishing rods and Harpoon Guns can also be used to pull players, including teammates, towards you.

Healing

Materials and Building

  • Materials are used to build tiles to defend yourself against other players shooting at you. They can be obtained by firing your Harvesting Tool at different tiles and props. There are three different types of building resource altogether - Wood, Stone and Metal. Each of these materials are useful for different things.
    • Wood - Wood is useful for players who need to quickly build a structure to protect themselves against enemy players. Wood is commonly used when two players are in a "Build Fight", as it gains health quickly. However, this material can easily be destroyed. Wood is most easily and quickly obtained from harvesting Trees.
    • Stone - Stone is useful in the late stage of a game of Battle Royale, because it is a good material for building a small fort to hide in while you are shooting at other players. Stone is most easily and quickly obtained from harvesting Rocks.
    • Metal - Metal is useful in the late stage of a game of Battle Royale for building large, team fortresses where each player can shoot at the opponents and have a safe place for heal. Metal is the material that is the hardest to destroy. Metal is hardest to obtain due to most cars becoming drivable and destroying cars can deal damage to you.

Gold Bars

  • Bars are a material that have been recently added to Battle Royale, at the start of Chapter 2: Season 5. Bars are found in many objects related to money including safes, large couches, beds, washing machines, registers, chests, and when eliminating players and NPCs. They can be used to buy items and weapons from NPCs, hire NPCs, upgrade weapons, and buy temporary abilities from NPCs such as locating nearby chests and cars, rifts, or prop disguises.

Crafting

  • Crafting is a new system added in C2 S6 where makeshift weapons can be crafted into mechanical and primal variants through the crafting tab in your inventory. Crafting requires bone fragments and mechanical parts which can be found by breaking bones or killing animals and breaking cars. Some NPCs also sell bones and mechanical parts and may give you some just for talking to them. In order to craft items you have to stand still and make noise so you should first find cover away from possible enemies before beginning to craft.

Weaponry

Shotguns

Charge Shotgun
Charge Shotgun - Weapon - Fortnite.png
Charge Shotgun (2nd Skin) - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Charging up the Charge Shotgun to full is ideal in an engagement as it deals higher DPS than not charging it.
  • Another strategy is throwing down a Shockwave Grenade and while in the air, charge and fire.
  • While charging the Charge Shotgun all the way will do maximum damage, in fast-pace battles, it is more safe to land two uncharged shots than a full charged shot.
Kit's Charge Shotgun
Charge Shotgun (2nd Skin) - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Charging up Kit's Charge Shotgun to full is ideal in an engagement as it deals higher DPS than not charging it.
Combat Shotgun
Combat Shotgun - Weapon Icon - Fortnite.png
  • Do not worry about using this shotgun from a long range distance. This shotgun will still deal damage to opponents.
Double Barrel Shotgun
Double Barrel Shotgun - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Double Barrel Shotgun should be used at extremely close range, and it is forgiving enough that you can miss your first shot for a follow up one.
  • You can fully knock a player with either rarity if you land both shots accurately.
The Dub
The Dub - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Dub should be used at extremely close range, and it is forgiving enough that you can miss your first shot for a follow up one. However, this is more difficult with the weapons knockback ability.
  • You can fully knock a player with either rarity if you land both shots accurately.
  • The Dub can be used for self mobility, such as reaching high ground, or it can be used for offensive mobility, such as knocking a player off a structure, or into the storm.
  • If you are battling on a high place and you could fall to your death, you can crouch so the Shotgun doesn’t knock you back.
Dragon's Breath Shotgun
Dragon's Breath Shotgun - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • As the Dragon's Breath Shotgun deals HP damage with the fire it produces, it can be useful when attacking enemies in the storm, as the storm will contribute to lowering the enemy's HP, and also ignore Shields.
  • If you do not kill an enemy with the gun, you can use another close range weapon such as an SMG to quickly kill your enemy. Try not to pair it with another shotgun, as there is a delay between switching with another shotgun.
  • If you headshot someone with the shotgun, you can deal 200 damage to them. Try breaking into their box with and SMG, and if you’re close enough to them, fire the weapon.
Drum Shotgun
Drum Shotgun.png
  • The Drum Shotgun is useful for dealing high amounts of damage to structures, so use it when up close with someone who is frantically building to destroy their cover fast and eliminate them.
Heavy Shotgun
Heavy Shotgun.png
  • The Heavy Shotgun is useful for destroying tiles and props, as it has a high structure damage.
Lever Action Shotgun
Lever Action Shotgun - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Lever Action Shotgun does the most damage when all pellets are landed on an up close headshot. As such, using the weapon at further ranges is ill-advised.
Pump Shotgun
Pump Shotgun - Weapon - Fortnite.png
Chapter2pump2.png
  • The Epic and Legendary Pump Shotgun will deal over 200 headshot damage, making it useful for gaining quick eliminations.
  • This shotgun has a slower fire rate than many other shotguns. If you are reloading this shotgun, make sure to check for opponents that can possibly attack you.
Tactical Shotgun
Chapter2tac.png
Tactical Shotgun (High Level) - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Tactical Shotgun is a great weapon for beginners, as its high firerate compared to other shotguns, and its good damage allows newer players to effectively attack opponents at close ranges.

Sniper Rifles

Name Image Strategy Guide
Amban Sniper Rifle
Amban Sniper Rifle - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Amban Sniper Rifle has a higher zoom compared to other Sniper Rifles, as well as Thermal vision. This can be used to eliminate targets at much longer ranges.
  • Thermal Vision can be used to see enemies through damaged structures, or structures being built.
  • You can use the Melee ability to propel yourself forward, allowing you travel long distances faster than just sprinting.
  • The Melee ability can be used to knock opponents off of high ground, either injuring them from fall damage, or simply displacing them.
Automatic Sniper Rifle
Automatic Sniper Rifle - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Players should aim above targets at long ranges to compensate for bullet drop. The further the target the higher the player should aim.
  • Players should aim in the direction a target is moving at long ranges to compensate for the bullet travel time. The faster and further the target the further the player should aim.
Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle

Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle (High Level) - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Players should aim above targets at long ranges to compensate for bullet drop. The further the target the higher the player should aim.
  • Players should aim in the direction a target is moving at long ranges to compensate for the bullet travel time. The faster and further the target the further the player should aim.
Dragon's Breath Sniper Rifle

  • Players should aim in the direction a target is moving at long ranges to compensate for the bullet travel time. The faster and further the target the further the player should aim.
  • As the Dragon's Breath Sniper Rifle deals HP damage with the fire it produces, it can be useful when attacking enemies in the storm, as the storm will contribute to lowering the enemy's HP, and also ignore Shield.
  • It has a small explosion radius when it lands that deals 115 damage, aiming right next to the enemy you want to hit is a good strategy.
Heavy Sniper Rifle
Icon Heavy Sniper - Battle Royale.png
  • Players should aim above targets at long ranges to compensate for bullet drop. The further the target the higher the player should aim.
  • Players should aim in the direction a target is moving at long ranges to compensate for the bullet travel time. The faster and further the target the further the player should aim.
  • As the weapon does very high structure damage, one could stand next to a structure which an enemy is hiding behind, such as a wall, shoot point blank, and then either replace the wall with their own for quick editing, or use a close ranged weapon such as a shotgun to attack opponents behind it.
Boom Sniper Rifle
Boom Sniper Rifle - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Boom Sniper Rifle can be used to deal splash damage to enemies around corners, as it shoots clingers.
  • The Boom Sniper Rifle is known as a 'fire and forget' weapon, as shooting it at an enemy allows the player to shift their attention to something else, as they are certain it will later deal significant damage.
  • If you are playing with teammates, make your teammate approach the enemy, then shoot your teammate so they have a clinger on their body. The teammate should approach to the enemy so that when the clinger explodes, the enemy will take damage and your teammate can finish the kill.
Hunting Rifle
Hunting Rifle - Weapon - Fortnite.png
Hunting Rifle (High Tier) - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Players should aim above targets at long ranges to compensate for bullet drop. The further the target the higher the player should aim.
  • Players should aim in the direction a target is moving at long ranges to compensate for the bullet travel time. The faster and further the target the further the player should aim.
  • If looking to choose between a Hunting Rifle and Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle, one should think about ranged engagements, the faster reload speed of the Hunting Rifle, but lack of a scope on the Hunting Rifle.
Lever Action Rifle
Lever Action Rifle - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Players should aim above targets at long ranges to compensate for bullet drop. The further the target the higher the player should aim.
  • Players should aim in the direction a target is moving at long ranges to compensate for the bullet travel time. The faster and further the target the further the player should aim.
  • It functions much like the Semi Auto Sniper Rifle an due to it’s faster-than-average bullet rate and low bullet drop in some case it can substitute for your Assault Rifle.
Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle
Icon Semi Auto Sniper - Fortnite.png
  • The Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle can be fired several times before reloading, and so the player can afford to be less accurate when firing the weapon.
Storm Scout Sniper Rifle
Storm Scout Sniper Rifle - Weapon- Fortnite.png
  • As the Storm Scout Sniper Rifle has the unique feature of showing the next storm circle, this can effectively be used to stay inside the storm and move to a preferable position before enemy players do. This way you can catch enemies running from or out of the storm.

  • Players should aim above targets at long ranges to compensate for bullet drop. The further the target the higher the player should aim.
  • Players should aim in the direction a target is moving at long ranges to compensate for the bullet travel time. The faster and further the target the further the player should aim.
Zapatron
Zapotron Schematic - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The weapon takes several seconds to charge up, and should be only used in situations where the player can afford the extra time to hit an opponent.

Assault Rifles

Name Image Strategy Guide
Assault Rifle
Assault Rifle - Weapon - Fortnite.png
Assault Rifle (High Level) - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Assault Rifle is the best all round weapon the game, being good at short and long range combat, and excelling at mid range. It should be your go to weapon if you are in a position to swap another weapon out.
  • The Assault Rifle has a high DPS and is good at breaking enemy structures fast.
  • Crouching with this gun resets its first shot accuracy faster, allowing for more accurate shots. Crouching also reduces its hipfire spread and spread in general.
  • It takes around 0.35 seconds for first shot accuracy to reset after a shot is fired and damage fall off begins around 50m.
Skye's Assault Rifle
Assault Rifle (High Level) - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Skye's Assault Rifle has a high DPS and is good at breaking enemy structures fast.
  • Crouching with this gun resets its first shot accuracy faster, allowing for more accurate shots. Crouching also reduces its hipfire spread and spread in general.

  • Players should aim in the direction a target is moving at long ranges to compensate for the bullet travel time. The faster and further the target the further the player should aim.
Burst Assault Rifle
Burst Assault Rifle Common smaller.png
Chapter2burst2.png
  • The Burst Assault Rifle has a very high DPS with its headshot potential. Use this to quickly kill and enemy, leaving them no time to react.
  • The Burst Assault Rifle is very weak against builds and so it is ill-advised to use it against someone who is building cover.
Ocean's Burst Assault Rifle
Chapter2burst2.png
  • Ocean's Burst Assault Rifle has a very high DPS with its headshot potential. Use this to quickly kill and enemy, leaving them no time to react.
  • Ocean's Burst Assault Rifle is very weak against builds and so it is ill-advised to use it against someone who is building cover.
Heavy Assault Rifle
Icon Heavy Assault Rifle.png
Legendary Heavy AR.png
  • When you use a Heavy Assault Rifle, it is preferable to use at medium range. Long range is still powerful due to its high damage, however.
  • It is important to note that the weapon has a very large spread when firing at full auto, and also is very weak up close due to hipfire spread.
Meowscles' Peow Peow Rifle
Legendary Heavy AR.png
  • When you use Meowscles' Peow Peow Rifle, it is preferable to use at medium range. Long range is still powerful due to its high damage, however.
  • It is important to note that the weapon has a very large spread when firing at full auto, and also is very weak up close due to hipfire spread.
Scoped Assault Rifle
ScopedARUncommonRare.png
ScopedAR2.png
  • The Scoped Assault Rifle can be a good replacement for a sniper rifle, especially if you are not good at compensating for slow moving bullets affected by gravity. Using this weapon allows the player to aim directly at targets and at least deal some damage.
Thermal Scoped Assault Rifle
Icon Thermal Scoped Assault Rifle - Battle Royale.png
  • The Thermal Scoped Assault Rifle can be a good replacement for a sniper rifle, especially if you are not good at compensating for slow moving bullets affected by gravity. Using this weapon allows the player to aim directly at targets and at least deal some damage.
  • The Thermal Scope can be useful for times when vision is clouded, such as being in the storm or underwater.
Tactical Assault Rifle
Tactical Assault Rifle - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Tactical Assault Rifle does not have first shot accuracy, so is not ideal for longer ranges.
Infantry Rifle
Infantry Rifle - Weapon - Fortnite.png
Infantry Rifle (High Level) - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • When using an Infantry Rifle, it is best to get accurate shots on the enemy by standing still for a second before firing each shot. This makes the best use of the Infantry Rifle because it can deal heavy damage to players this way. When in close proximity, this isn't the best weapon to use. But it can be used to quickly take down structures, and when doing so, in close proximity, it's best not to aim.
  • A good method of countering an Infantry Rifle is to continuously build a wall or floor in the direction of the shots until the enemy has to stop to reload their rifle. This is the best time to start to return fire at the enemy since if they're boxed up, they would have to cancel reloading to avoid damage.
Light Machine Gun
Light Machine Gun.png
  • The LMG has a very long first shot accuracy cooldown, so it is not ideal to use it at range.
  • The LMG has the highest magazine of any weapon and so excels at destroying structures whilst enemies attempt to out-build it.
Minigun
Minigun - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Minigun has an excessively high structure damage, so it is useful for knocking down buildings.
  • The Minigun does not need to be reloaded, so when you do not need to shoot, hold your Minigun and wait for it to cool down.
Brutus' Minigun
Minigun - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Brutus' Minigun is useful for knocking down buildings, similar to the Minigun.
Stark Industries Energy Rifle
Stark Industries Energy Rifle - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • If you are attacking a target at close range, it is ideal to hipfire the weapon, as the faster DPS and fire speed will aid you in eliminating your target faster. The same is true for attacking enemy structures.
Drum Gun
Icon Drum Gun - Fortnite.png
  • The Drum Gun is essentially an SMG in all but name, so it should be used accordingly. This means close range hipfire against opponents for the best DPS.
  • The Drum Gun has a large magazine size so it can be useful for attacking builds for longer periods of time.
Midas' Drum Gun
Midas' Drum Gun - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Midas' Drum Gun is essentially an SMG in all but name, so it should be used accordingly. This means close range hipfire against opponents for the best DPS.
  • Midas' Drum Gun has a large magazine size so it can be useful for attacking builds for longer periods of time.
Jules' Drum Gun
Jules' Drum Gun - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Jules' Drum Gun is essentially an SMG in all but name, so it should be used accordingly. This means close range hipfire against opponents for the best DPS.
  • Jules' Drum Gun has a large magazine size so it can be useful for attacking builds for longer periods of time.
Shadow Midas' Drum Gun
Shadow Midas' Drum Gun - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Shadow Midas' Drum Gun is essentially an SMG in all but name, so it should be used accordingly. This means close range hipfire against opponents for the best DPS.
  • Shadow Midas' Drum Gun has a large magazine size so it can be useful for attacking builds for longer periods of time.

  • If choosing between the Tactical Submachine Gun and regular Submachine Gun, you should opt for the latter, as its stats and usage as a close range weapon excel compared to the Tactical version.
Rapid Fire SMG
Rapid Fire SMG.png
  • The Rapid Fire SMG is ideal paired with a Shotgun, due to their close range abilities, if you do not kill the enemy with the shotgun, switch to the Rapid Fire SMG to finish them off.
  • The Rapid Fire SMG rewards accuracy. Landing all shots can easily knock a full HP and Shield Target.
  • The Rapid Fire SMG is great for destroying builds, due to its high fire rate and fast reload.

Pistols

Name Image Strategy Guide
Deadpool's Hand Cannons
Deadpool-Pistols.png
  • Be weary of Deadpool's Dual Hand Cannons magazine size, at it fires both guns at once, meaning half the number of shots per magazine.
  • This weapon can be used to siphon health back during a fight, and useful when stuck in the storm to survive longer inside of it.
Dual Pistols
Icon Dual Pistol - Battle Royale.png
  • Be weary of the Dual Pistol's magazine size, at it fires both guns at once, meaning half the number of shots per magazine.
Flint-Knock Pistol
Flint-Knock Pistol - Pistol - Fortnite.png
  • The Flint-Knock Pistol can be used for self mobility, such as reaching high ground, or it can be used for offensive mobility, such as knocking a player off a structure, or into the storm.
Lazar's Flight-Knock
Flint-Knock Pistol - Pistol - Fortnite.png
  • Try not to accidentally use it in the final circles unless you are in a box. If you need to get high ground, use it to gain more height on your opponent.
Hand Cannon
Hand Cannon - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Hand Cannon can be used to deal high structure damage, allowing the player to fire the weapon, then quickly swap it out for another weapon, if a player is hiding behind a structure.
Hop Rock Dualies
Hop Rock Dualies - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Hop Rock Dualies don’t deal much damage so you should be careful not to get to close to people when fighting.
  • When firing them, use the low-gravity effect to maneuver around your opponent and get a better shot.
  • You can fire these weapons to be a substitute for Bouncers, and you can use it to retake your opponent’s high ground.
  • Since the jump effect negates fall damage, these are very useful in build fights, particularly those that end up very high up from the ground; fire them (hopefully at the opponent) then jump off the build. If it's very high up, you might want to shoot once more about halfway to the ground to ensure that the efefct does not wear off before reaching the ground.
Pistol
Pistol (Chapter 2) - Weapon - Fortnite.png
Legendary) - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Pistol is very deadly the faster you can fire it. If you have good trigger finger, the pistol will have an almost on par DPS with the Assault Rifle.
  • Landing headshots is very beneficial with this weapon. At a decent fire-rate and mixing in headshots gives the pistol a higher DPS than the Assault Rifle.
Revolver
Revolver - Weapon - Fortnite.png

Scoped Revolver
Scoped Revolver.png
  • The Scoped Revolver has poor hipfire spread and should not be used at close ranges.
Night Hawk
Night Hawk - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Night Hawk is useful for longer ranges or in the storm, as its thermal view allows players to see through areas with thick fog.
  • Due to its thermal scope, the weapon is useful against invisible enemies, such as Predator, or those using his cloaking device.
Six Shooter
Icon Six Shooter.png
  • If you are attacking a target at close range, it is ideal to hipfire the weapon, as the faster DPS and fire speed will aid you in eliminating your target faster. The same is true for attacking enemy structures.
Suppressed Pistol
Icon Suppressed Pistol - Fortnite.png
  • The Suppressed Pistol benefits greatly from a fast trigger finger. If you can fire the weapon quickly, you can output significant DPS, especially when landing headshots.
Shadow Tracker
Shadow Tracker - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Shadow Tracker benefits greatly from a fast trigger finger. If you can fire the weapon quickly, you can output significant DPS, especially when landing headshots.
  • The marking feature is incredibly useful for any engagement, as having a regular sight on where the enemy is exactly can aid with firing through structures and hitting the opponent, as well as knowing exactly when an enemy is going to peek from cover.

  • Kit's Shockwave Launcher can be used to launch enemy players into the storm in small storm circles. This will deal high damage to them and possibly kill them.
  • Kit's Shockwave Launcher can be used to easily escape an engagement, get out of the storm quickly, or help teammates do either of these. It can also be utilized to displace knocked teammates into a safer location to prevent their elimination.

  • Hitting players on slopes or near the storm can easily disrupt a fight or even eliminate them.
Proximity Grenade Launcher
Proximity-grenade-launcher.png
  • Avoid shooting a Proximity Grenade Launcher near your person as it will deal the same damage to you as it does to enemy players.
  • The Proximity Grenade Launcher can easily be used to attack players behind cover, as the airburst function of the grenade ensures a clean hit on someone in the small area of effect.
  • The Proximity Grenade Launcher is incredibly useful for low skilled players, as it has a very forgiving radius to easily deal damage to opponents.
  • The Proximity Grenade Launcher fires very slowly, so only use it when you can afford to stagger your attacks.
Quad Launcher
Quad Launcher - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • Avoid shooting a Quad Launcher near your person as it will deal the same damage to you as it does to enemy players.

Burst Quad Launcher
Burst Quad Launcher - Weapon - Fortnite.png

Name Image Strategy Guide
Harvesting Tool
Pickaxe (Chapter 2) - Pickaxe - Fortnite.png
  • Only use the Harvesting Tool when out of all other options, or if you are very early game and neither you or an opponent have a weapon.
  • You could use a Harvesting Tool against a player who only has a long range weapon, such as a Sniper Rifle, as the weak hipfire accuracy can lead you to win a fight against them.
Kingsman
Kingsman - Item - Fortnite.png
  • This weapon can be used to break your fall. It will function like a glider, however, do not use it when you are at an excessively high position.
  • This weapon can be used to block attacks from players, however this feature has durability and a cooldown.
Infinity Blade
Infinity Blade - Weapon - Fortnite.png
  • The Infinity Blade can be used to passively heal health, so if you or a squad member are low on HP or Shield, they can wield the weapon for healing purposes. However, this may be impractical, as it will drop all of their items.
  • You are vulnerable to ranged attacks whilst the Infinity Blade is being held, as you cannot build for cover, nor can you attack back at long ranges. The best course of action is either to hide and passively heal, or to attack the opponent, as with consecutive hits, they will be knocked in 4.5 seconds maximum, and will likely struggle to attack you at very close range.

Items

Consumable Items

Name Image Strategy Guide

Bandages - Healing Item - Fortnite.png
  • Bandages can be used to recover health inside the storm and prolong a players time inside it. However, they can only heal to 75HP and take a decent amount of time for the health they recover.
  • Bandages are the weakest and most ineffective version of recovering health in the game, so they should ideally be changed out with anything else that heals at any situation.
Medkit
Consumable medkit.png
  • Players should make sure they have good cover before attempting to use a the Medkit, as it takes a long time (10 Seconds) to use.
  • Players should really only attempt to use the Medkit at low HP, as the time it takes to restore health is long. However, if there is enough time, the Medkit can be used to restore any amount of health.
  • If the player is caught in the storm and has more health than 10 seconds worth of storm damage, they can use the Medkit to help them survive.
Small Shield Potion
Mini Shield Potion.png
  • Always drink Small Shield Potions before drinking regular shield potions, as those can be used to get to max shield, but not vice versa.
  • Small Shield Potions are useful to consuming in fights at low shield, as they are very fast to consume and can give you the health you need to survive.
Shield Potion
Shield potion icon.png
  • Always drink Small Shield Potions before drinking regular Shield Potions, as those can be used to get to max shield, but not vice versa. However, if you are in possession of two Shield Potions and no Small Shield Potions, it is quicker to just consume both Shield Potions than look for small ones.

Slurp Juice
Slurp Juice - Consumable - Fortnite.png
  • If you are in a 1 or 2 tick storm, Slurp Juice is very beneficial to your survival, as consuming it can balance out a 1 tick storm to deal no damage, and reduce a 2 tick storm to a 1 tick.
  • Players can min-max their usage by quickly consuming a Slurp Juice before a fight, or if one is found and cannot be carried. Doing this will allow you to passively heal if you take damage during the conflict.
Small Fry
Light Blue Small Fry - Small Fry - Fortnite.png
  • Small Fries can be used to recover health inside the storm and prolong a players time inside it. However, they can only heal to 75HP.
Flopper
Flopper.png
  • Floppers are very useful to gaining quick health, as their time to consume versus the healing they provide is the fastest in the game for raw HP. As such a player should reasonably carry a full stack of Floppers vs a full stack of Medkits, as the healing provided is less, but much faster, at 4 seconds as opposed to 30.
Jellyfish
Slurp Jellyfish - Jellyfish - Fortnite.png
  • Jellyfish are useful for team-play, as they can be used to heal multiple members of your squad at the same time, if they stand close to you.
Shieldfish
Light Blue Shield Fish - Shield Fish - Fortnite.png
  • Shield fish are better than Shield Potions in every way aside from obtaining them. This is because Shield Fish can be consumed in one second, and Shield Potions take 5. However, Shield Fish must be obtained by Fishing, making them awkward to locate.
Slurpfish
Blue Slurpfish - Slurpfish - Fortnite.png
  • Slurpfish are very useful to gaining quick health, as their time to consume versus the healing they provide is the fastest in the game, with a full stack healing 120 effective health in 3 seconds.

  • If you are W-Keying and willing to fight, eat a Thermal Fish first, then a Rift Fish so you can spot players around the map.
  • If you quickly use the rift fish but switch to another item fast enough, the rift sound will be heard, but the rift will not appear or affect players. This can be useful to trick an opponent into thinking that you have rifted.
Rift Fish

Thermal Fish
Purple and Orange Thermal Fish - Thermal Fish - Fortnite.png
  • Thermal Fish are useful for seeing enemies through Wooden Structures, as the gaps in them can allow for easy identification, especially when being built. On top of this, Thermal vision is great for low visibility, such as in the Storm.
Snowy Flopper
Snowy Flopper - Fish - Fortnite.png
  • Snowy Floppers are useful for quick movement. However, like all items that give icy feet, it is very hard to control movement or reduce the speed the player moves at, as well as sliding down slopes. Therefore the Snowy Flopper should be used with caution.
Midas Flopper
Midas Flopper - Fish - Fortnite.png
  • Midas Floppers are obviously very beneficial, upgrading all of your weaponry to Legendary and giving you a Legendary Assault Rifle. However, as the catch rate is so low and they require a Pro Fishing Rod, it is often not worth spending the time to find one.
  • Waiting for your squad to give you their low rarity weaponry is the most efficient way to upgrade all their loot and make the best use of the Midas Flopper.

Banana.png
  • Bananas heal very low amounts of HP, and should really only be used or carried during emergencies.
Cabbage
Cabbage - Item - Fortnite.png
  • Cabbages heal twice as much as Apples or Bananas and should be prioritized if you need to carry one or the other.
  • Cabbages are actually one of the best healing items, especially when in the storm. This is because they heal relatively fast, with the ability to let the player move a few tiles whilst the healing over time effect plays out. As such they are very valuable healing items.
  • People used to use cabbages and Fish paired with a Campfire to survive in the storm.
Coconut
Coconut Icon.png
  • If carrying Small Shield Potions, drink those before consuming a coconut, as you will end up with more Shield.

Slurp Mushroom
Slurpshroom.png
  • Slurp Mushrooms are arguably the best Foraged Item to carry, as well as being a very solid healing item in general. Carrying two Slurp Mushrooms is equivalent to one Chug Splash, and getting repeated luck from Produce Boxes can provide around 20 to 60 Effective Healing.

Zero Point Crystals
Zero Point Crystal - Consumable - Fortnite.png
  • Zero Point Crystals are useful for escaping the storm, or general traversal at high speeds.
  • You cannot take advantage of the Zero Point Crystals if you have a Jetpack of any sorts equipped, unless it runs out of fuel and is on cooldown, so do not bother consuming them when using one.
  • If you have the Hop Rock Dualies equipped, a useful strategy would be to consume a Zero Point Crystal, fire the Dualies to activate the jump effect, then jump and use the Zero Point Crystal ability. This is useful for escaping a fight at high and efficient speeds, among other uses.
  • Be mindful that the effect these crystals cause does not stop fall damage, so if you are on a mountain with a ledge in front of you, be warned.
Hop Rocks
Hop Rock.png
  • Hop Rocks are useful for escaping the storm, or general traversal at high speeds.
  • Hop Rocks can be used to negate fall damage in an emergency. However, this is very hard to make use of due to the item being unable to be stored in the player's inventory.

  • Pepper Mints should be eaten whenever you find them, as the boost lasts a full minute, and they can be eaten at full health. Finding a pepper mint that you cannot carry, you should consume it and then continue on, for the boost.
Thermal Taffy

Name Image Strategy Guide

  • Grenades are very good for attacking a player who is repeatedly building, as lobbing several grenades at their structure will not only weaken it / destroy it, but it has the potential to eliminate the player afterwards.
  • Understanding how far a grenade will go after it has been thrown before detonating allows a player to effectively control exactly where a grenade will explode, rather than dealing with the potential bounces and rolling of a thrown grenade.
Firefly Jar
Firefly Jar - Throwable - Fortnite.png
  • Firefly Jars are very good for attacking a player who is repeatedly building, as lobbing several jars at their structure will not only weaken it / destroy it, but also set it alight, causing potential burn damage. The burn damage also ignores shield allowing for easier knocking of an opponent. However, it will only set wooden structures alight, but can still damage other materials.
  • Firefly Jars can be good for attacking a player in a storm as the fire damage will eliminate them quicker due to it taking away HP and not shield.
Shockwave Grenade
Shockwave Grenade - Throwable - Fortnite.png
  • Shockwave Grenades are very good for fast mobility, as they can launch you and teammates far into the air or forwards, with no damage taken upon impact.
  • Shockwave Grenades can be used to launch enemy players into the storm. As the launch is fast and far, as well as it ignoring structures, it can be very effective.
  • If a player is fast, they can throw a Shockwave Grenade down near an item, quickly swap it out on the very short delay before the grenade detonates, and utilize the grenade whilst keeping the swapped item. This of course uses the grenade up, but it can be useful as to not waste the grenade.

  • You can stick a Clinger to a friendly player and have them run towards an enemy. This is useful as the friendly player receives no damage.
Dynamite
Dynamite - Grenade - Fortnite.png
  • Dynamite is best used in a build fight, as it can demolish any player built structure within its blast radius. The damage a single piece of dynamite can deal is higher than the health of a metal structure.
  • Dynamite is very weak against opponents, as they can easily escape its blast radius with the 5 second timer. On top of this, you must be very close to throw the item at another player.
Bottle Rockets
Bottle Rockets - Item - Fortnite.png
  • Bottle Rockets are weak for player damage, and should only be used to attack structures.
  • Throwing one or two Bottle Rockets can be useful for passive damage, as having them work away at a structure can allow time to focus on other things during a fight.

Decoy Grenade - Throwable - Fortnite .png
  • Decoys can be useful in a heated fight, as opponents may attack decoys thinking they are the player, allowing you time to focus your attack onto the opponent.

  • Decoys will actually follow nearby targets, allowing you to locate opponents who are hiding nearby.

  • Proximity Mines can hurt the player if they are standing too close.
  • Proximity Mines can be thrown on a vehicle and used as bait. Something like a Choppa can have mines attached to it, and when it is interacted with, it will damage the players inside.

Stink Bomb - Grenade - Fortnite.png
  • They are most useful when someone is hiding in a box, as it will force them to expose themselves or they will take damage.
  • They are great for weakening an enemy in a fight, especially inside The Storm, as it deals damage to HP and not shields.
    • As such it can also be very useful for attacking a player who was recently knocked, as they will only have around 30HP, so three seconds of contact with a Stink Bomb.
Shield Bubble
ShieldBubble.png
  • The Shield Bubble is very useful for defending a Vehicle, as it will completely cover any Vehicle in the game, and oftentimes attacking is difficult when in one, so it will not prove detrimental to your squad.
  • The Shield Bubble is good for healing, as it allows a decent amount of time to use items such as Medkits or Chug Jugs.
  • The Shield Bubble is an effective counter to the Air Strike or Junk Rift, as both are blocked by the Bubble.

Junk Rift
Junk Rift.png
  • Junk Rifts are very useful in build fights, as they can quickly destroy a structure, and easily deal damage to those inside of it.
Storm Flip
Storm Flip - Throwable - Fortnite.png
  • The Storm Flip can be used to easily survive the Storm way beyond the actual safe zone. Combined with several healing items, or multiple players carrying Storm Flips, a player can survive until the storm closes completely.
  • The Storm Flip is ineffective early on in a match, as it will only deal 1 damage per second on the first two Storm circles.
  • The Storm Flip can be thrown into a build fight, or combined with fire, in order to deal HP damage as fast as possible and damage players inside their structures. On top of this, visibility is greatly reduced.
Air Strike
Air Strike - Grenade - Fortnite.png
  • The Air Strike can be used to deal high damage in a build fight, as the missiles will not only attack players, but also destroy their cover.
  • Players can easily avoid the air strike with either movement items (such as a Shockwave Grenade) or simply sprinting out of the area, as it takes a few seconds for the missiles to deploy.
Port-a-Fortress
Port-a-Fortress - Grenade - Fortnite.png

Crash Pad
Crash Pad - Item - Fortnite.png
  • If the player falls out of a Choppa, a crash pad is an ideal method to negate fall damage, as it can easily be deployed underneath you.
  • Crash Pads maintain the player's velocity, so if you are moving fast, you can deploy repeated crash pads underneath you, and gain a good amount of distance in a short time.
Water Balloon
Water Balloon - Throwable - Fortnite.png
  • You need to be fairly close to attack another player with a water balloon, as the throw range is relatively short.
Presents
Birthday Presents - Item - Fortnite.png

  • Presents can also be trapped easily by keeping the loot available and placing a trap on a surface, to eliminate unsuspecting players.
Creepin’ Cardboard
Creepin’ Cardboard - Item - Fortnite.png
  • The Creepin' Cardboard can be used to hide amongst other Boxes found on the map. This can be used to get the jump on unsuspecting players.

Sneaky Snowman.png
  • The Sneaky Snowman can be used to hide amongst other Snowmen found on the map. This can be used to get the jump on unsuspecting players.

  • Rusty Cans should only be used as the absolute last resort, as they deal the same damage as a single hit from a Harvesting Tool.

Boogie Bomb - Grenade - Fortnite.png
  • When Boogie Bombed in a car or vehicle, the bomb will force the player hit to jump out of the vehicle.
  • If a Boogie Bomb is thrown in a player's radius after using an object that negates fall damage, it will cancel the zero-gravity effect, thus causing the player to be vulnerable to fall damage again.
Mythic Goldfish
Mythi.png
  • The Mythic Goldfish deals very high structure damage, so if a player is hiding behind a structure, it can be thrown at it and you can then quickly switch to another weapon to eliminate them before they have time to build it back.

  • Like all damage traps, the Fire Trap can be used to eliminate an enemy by boxing them in with one, forcing the trap to activate and damage the enemy.
  • The Fire Trap is especially deadly in the Storm, as it deals damage to HP with the fire created. This can be used to eliminate a player at high shield, as the storm will help finish them off.
  • The Fire Trap deals fire damage, so even if a player is revived and then given full shield (or they are knocked from fall damage) they can still be knocked by a fire started by the trap.

  • A Cozy Campfire can be useful in The Storm as it provides more healing than the first two storm circles damage you. On the third one it will balance your health out, dealing no damage, but providing no healing.
  • A damaged vehicle can be driven near a Campfire, in order to heal it. It will heal very little, but it could be enough to get to full health.

  • Placing a Chiller in an enemy structure can be useful for disorientating them. On top of this, it is very hard to gain height when your feet are frozen, as ramps or pyramids will cause you to slide off them.
  • A Chiller can be used on a player who is need a steep slope or sudden drop, as the loss of movement control can cause them to fall down. This can possibly launch someone into the storm.
  • A Chiller is very useful for gaining quick momentum, as it can be used near a steep slope you have created to gain quick speed and traverse great distance.
  • Using a Chiller in combination with a Bouncer can result in great distance, as speed built up from a Chiller, alongside a height boost from a Bouncer can allow for long distances covered with no fall damage.

Choppa - Vehicle - Fortnite.png
  • The Choppa's primary function is to provide fast travel between locations, for multiple friendly players. However, the Choppa is very vulnerable, mainly due to its size, and location in which the player must fly it. Due to these vulnerabilities, it is important to fly close to tall hills and buildings, to provide cover if an enemy is attacking you.
  • If you are caught in the storm, the Choppa is very useful for escaping, due to its speed, and also the fact passengers are able to heal whilst being in the vehicle.
  • If you are in a dire situation, the Choppa can also being used for ramming into builds, dealing contact damage to enemy players, or purposely destroying the Choppa to cause a damaging explosion.
  • Try not to fly too high in the Choppa, as if an enemy does shoot you down, you will either instantly die due to the explosion, or you will have to bail out and die from fall damage. This can be countered with Crash Pads.
  • If another player is using a Choppa, it is not the best idea to simply fire at it when you see it. Not only will you deal very little damage in comparison to the vehicles total health, but you are likely to alert the driver to your location, in which the enemy player will likely have a mobility advantage, and be able to gain significant high ground. The Choppa takes 2.25x damage if the tail rotor is shot, and the driver can be shot through the glass as the front of the vehicle.
  • However, if the enemy player is attempting to ram and deal contact damage, or you are in a position where a Choppa is near to you or low health, fire upon the helicopter. In this situation you are either likely to hurt the enemy by destroying the Choppa, or you can shoot through the windshield to damage them directly.
  • A Boogie Bomb can eject players from the Choppa.
Loot Shark
