All battle, no building!
Zero Build is all the action, loot, and progression of classic Battle Royale, without the Building! Players now have a recharging overshield for added defense as they fight to be the last one standing.
— In-Game Description

Zero Build is a PvP (Player versus Player) mode in Fortnite that was released on March 29, 2022. Players must drop onto an island and fight to be the last one surviving in Solo, Duos, Trios, or Squads. In this mode, building is disabled, but the Overshield is enabled.

Gameplay[]

Zero Build's gameplay is identical to Battle Royale, however:

  • Building is disabled. As such, materials such as Wood, Stone, and Metal are not included.
  • The Overshield is enabled, adding 50 effective HP for a maximum of 250.
  • Utility items' spawn rates are increased.

Features[]

No Building[]

Players are unable to build in Zero Build and must make use of natural cover. Building is completely disabled, and harvesting materials as well as finding them as pickups are disabled also.

Overshield[]

Zero Build features a recharging Overshield to keep players in the game. This overshield charges as soon as the player jumps out the bus. Overshield act as the first defense, before Shield and Health take damage. If an overshield is damaged or destroyed, it recharges after a period of time.

Utility Tactics[]

Because there is no building, Utility Items have an increased drop rate in Zero Build to help the player in battle.

Strategy Guide[]

Calculated - Emote - Fortnite
This section outlines a strategy.
Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic.
  • Try not to stay out in the open, as the absence of building can get you eliminated quickly.
  • Utilize movement efficiently; Sprint in open areas, mantle over cover, and slide down stairs and hills to avoid enemy fire as much as possible.
  • Use vehicles to get around the island safely.
  • In case you are caught in the open, carry mobility items such as Shockwave Grenades or Rift-To-Gos to get you out of trouble.
  • Carry Port-A-Bunkers to make your own cover in case you are caught in the open.
  • Make sure to carry longer-ranged weapons with you alongside close-range weapons so you aren't defenseless against enemies with rifles at long range, or submachine guns/shotguns at close range.

Trivia[]

  • Upon the release of Chapter 3: Season 2, Building was removed from standard playlists, and the Rebuilding Quests were released to bring it back. Once Zero Build was released on March 29th, standard playlists still didn't return until April 2nd.
  • Zero Build was actually leaked as early as Season X, but was believed to be scrapped until Epic updated the mode to allow bots in Chapter 3, before finally being introduced for Chapter 3: Season 2.
