The Fortnite Champion Series (abbreviated as FNCS), is the premier Tournament in Fortnite: Battle Royale. The inaugural FNCS was in Season X and has been held every season since. The tournament usually starts near the end of each season and is open to players ranked Champion League in Arena. Each region have a separate FNCS and is region locked. The FNCS offers the largest prize money of all online tournaments. In some seasons, there are side FNCS events which are also played with a large prizing, but have a different format than the main FNCS events.
Rules[]
The FNCS follow the same ruleset as Arena playlists.
- 100 Players, all of which drop from the Battle Bus.
- Competitive Loot Pool.
- Standard Gravity.
- Standard HP rules.
- Respawns are disabled.
- Building enabled.
- Overshield disabled.

Format[]
The current FNCS format is in the Duos game mode.
Qualification[]
The qualification format varies each season, but players typically go though rounds of qualifications for each qualifying session. There have been as little as 2 and as many as 4 qualifying sessions for FNCS. The top teams in the final round of qualifiers immediately advance to grand finals. Players that failed to qualify but earn enough series points (based on their session rankings) go through semi-finals for another chance of qualifying to grand finals. If a team fails to qualify by placing high enough, then that team goes through Surge Week where a Victory Royale or being placed high enough is needed to qualify to the grand finals.
Current Qualification Format[]
- 3 Qualifier weeks, each qualifier is 3 rounds. Top 40 Duos in series points over the 3 weeks are qualified to the Grand Finals.
- Surge Week. Duos advance to Grand Finals by earning a Victory Royale or placing high in the leaderboard. 5 Duos advance from Victory Royale and 5 Duos advance from placement.
Grand Finals[]
In the grand finals (shortened by the community as "Grands"), the top 50 duos from each region play 12 games in a period of 2 days (6 games each day) for a chance to become the season's FNCS champions. The team that wins FNCS earn the largest cash prize and the The Axe of Champions 2.0 harvesting tool while grand finals participants earn cash prizes depending on how high they rank. It is possible to end the Grand Finals early by reaching the Match Point threshold.
Viewing FNCS[]
The FNCS is broadcasted live through Twitch and YouTube, where hundreds of thousands of viewers can experience match by match commentary and analysis. The final round (set lobby) of each Qualifiers, the Semi Finals, and the Grand Finals are broadcasted live.
The FNCS can also be watched in-game using the Replay Client by selecting the tournament in the Compete tab and select "Watch Live Matches" above the leaderboard. This give the viewer free control of the camera and player point of views, but without the commentary.
The broadcast and the in-game replay client have a delay of 5 minutes.
Cosmetics[]
Viewers can earn free FNCS themed Cosmetic Items via Twitch drops. Additionally, players can purchase FNCS cosmetics in the Item Shop. These cosmetics are available for a limited time and never return to the Item Shop, as it gets replaced by a new set of cosmetics for the following FNCS. FNCS cosmetics are part of the FNCS set.
