Relive Battle Royale from its beginnings in Chapter 1 Season 4. Drop back in and explore the OG map, collect OG loot, and relive OG seasons.
— In-Game Description

Fortnite OG is a PvP (Player versus Player) mode in Fortnite that was released on December 6, 2024. Using the same rules and conditions from Fortnite: Battle Royale, players must drop onto an island and fight to be the last one surviving in Solo, Duos, or Squads. In this mode, Building is enabled, and it supports up to 100 players in a match. A Zero Build version of this mode coexists with the exact same conditions as Fortnite: Zero Build.

Gameplay[]

Starting a Match

Upon loading into a Fortnite OG match, players will spawn on the Spawn Island, a place where they can wait until the Battle Bus is ready to fly over the island. Upon entering the Battle Bus, players will have 15 seconds to jump out and skydive to wherever they want on the island. Players start out with 100 health and 0 shield.

The Storm

After a minute, the Eye of the Storm, a safe zone, will be marked on the Minimap. Players have roughly 3 minutes until The Storm starts closing in. After the storm reaches the eye, another grace period begins and the eye of the storm shrinks. This process is repeated until the match ends. Any player in the storm will be damaged, with the amount of damage growing every few storm phases until it hits 10 DPS (Damage per Second). The storm directly damages your health, ignoring shields. Prolonged presence in the storm causes Storm Sickness, which will deal more damage to a player's health, preventing long-term exposure to The Storm. There are 12 storm phases in a match.

Elimination and Down But Not Out

Eliminating opposing players is achieved by dealing enough damage until their health reaches zero. In Solo, the player is instantly eliminated and removed from the match. In matches with more than one player on a team, such as Duo, Trio, and Squad matches, players will be knocked down after losing all their health, and can crawl on the floor at a reduced speed. Knocked players cannot use items and, if not revived, their Tenacity will deplete, until they are fully eliminated and drop a Reboot Card. Reboot Cards expire after 4 minutes and 30 seconds, and can be collected to reboot fallen allies at Reboot Vans. If all players on a team are eliminated, then that team is fully eliminated from the match. Unless revived or Rebooted , Players eliminated during the match cannot respawn and will have their loot dropped for other players to obtain if they wish.

Items and Weapons

After landing, players must find loot either on the floor or through containers to obtain weapons, healing items, materials and utility items of various rarities. Shield can be obtained from consumables. Weapons are used to deal damage to players and come in different types. There are 5 types of rarities of items (Common - Legendary).

Building

In Fortnite OG, building is normally enabled. The pickaxe can be used to gather materials that can be used to build structures such as walls, floors, stairs, and roofs. These structures can be edited before and after being placed to include a door, window, railing, etc. Enemy-built structures cannot be edited, so the attacking player must shoot through the structures to attack the enemy. Each player can hold up to 999 of each material, which are Wood, Brick, and Metal. Wood builds are the weakest, but are quick to build and easy to scavenge while Metal is the strongest but takes the longest time to fully build.

In OG Zero Build, Build Mode only remains enabled to allow the player to place traps around the Island and materials can still be harvested and acquired from Chests as they are used for currency to buy items from Vending Machines.

Victory Royale

Once the last team or player remains, they will receive a Victory Royale.

Trivia[]

  • The codename for Fortnite OG is "Figment", which may imply that this gamemode takes place in a character's imagination.
  • Fortnite OG has been theorized to become a permanent mode since Early 2024 because of Chapter 4: Season OG's significant success in November 2023.
  • The mode features many items that have not been seen since Chapter 1: Season 1, such as the Wall Dynamo, Ceiling Zapper, Directional Jump Pad, and the Submachine Gun.
    • Despite building being primarily disabled in OG Zero Build, the Wall Dynamo, Ceiling Zapper and Directional Jump Pad can be acquired and placed on buildings.
  • After criticism in Season OG, this game mode features the original weapon models from Chapter 1.
  • Fortnite OG C1S1 features the classic Double Pump exploit, which was fully patched out in Season 5.
  • This is the first time Moisty Mire and Anarchy Acres have been featured on the Athena island in 2300+ days.
  • Fortnite OG features the pre-Chapter 4 damage indicators.
    • As such, when entering a match of Fortnite OG, settings for the Chapter 4 damage indicators appropriately do not show up in the UI Settings menu.
