A galactic reckoning is coming… Imperial Star Destroyers exit hyperspace in formation around the Death Star, which looms with its superlaser array fixed on the BR map. Heroes from across eras are ready to strike back against the assault led by Emperor Palpatine from the shadows, and the Island's fate hangs in the balance.[1]
— Fortnite Galactic Battle Blogpost

The Empire is a vast military and political organization founded and led by Emperor Palpatine within an alternate Star Wars universe, with the goal of creating the Sith Empire and ruling the Galaxy. It was first introduced during Chapter 6: Season 2.

They are major antagonists of Fortnite: Battle Royale, serving as the main antagonists of Galactic Battle.

Overview[]

The Empire is a large organization divided into two sub-factions: the Galactic Empire (Original Trilogy) and the First Order (New Trilogy). Its ranks are also increased by the presence of the General Grievous of the Separatist Droid Army (Prequel Trilogy) and several additional Sith Lords. It is opposed by the unions of the Galactic Republic (Prequel Trilogy), the Rebel Alliance (Original Trilogy), the Resistance (New Trilogy) and Oninoshima's inhabitants. The Empire traveled with the Death Star to Oninoshima, accompanied by a vast fleet of Star Destroyers arriving through a Rift, and assaulted the Island.

History[]

Chapter 6: Season 2[]

The Death Star appeared in the skies above Oninoshima.

Galactic Battle[]

Episode I: Imperial Takeover[]

Galactic Empire - Cinematic - Fortnite

The arrival of the Empire.

The Galactic Empire, led by Emperor Palpatine, appeared in the skies above the island in their Star Destroyers and launched a full-scale invasion on Oninoshima. With overwhelming combat power, they encountered no resistance and were able to build their bases in the captured territories (Demon's Dojo, which was completely destroyed and replaced by First Order Base, and the redesigned Shogun's Solitude).

Death Star-Stage1

First stage of the Death Star - May 2

The Empire has set up outposts of its own and the First Order all over the island. The Empire has also taken over radio stations, placing Death Troopers on guard duty. The Death Star has settled on the horizon, biding its time.

The Looper discovers the Rebels' Data Log Entries, where they mainly learn how some of the rebels are discouraged by seeing how outgunned they are, while another log talks about rumors concerning a major counteroffensive move against The Empire. Later, infiltrating Vader Samurai's Solitude, they discover Imperial Data Log Entries from its Stormtroopers, some of whom are alarmed by the number of people dancing on the island, others are worried about being stuck there, and one of them experienced and was terrified by their experience with one of the Rift-To-Go's. However, one of the logs mentions that Emperor Palpatine is interested in the "junk" of Oninoshima. The Stormtroopers don't really know why this is the case, but if they find anything interesting they will report it to the Emperor as soon as possible.

General Grievous is on the hunt for Jedi Lightsabers collected from those that have fallen in battle, as well as meeting up with other favorable collectors. With the honor that Grievous has attained so far, anyone willing to grant Jedi Padawan Lightsabers to him will be rewarded with the Enhanced IQA-11 Marksman Blaster Rifle.

Episode II: The Pull of the Force[]

The Sith Lord Darth Maul, as well as the Jedi Master Mace Windu both emerge and intervene in the conflict. General Grievous opposed Windu and his troopers, while Maul's involvement remains unclear.

The Looper meets up with Leia Organa. She sought after a rebel loyalist to formulate a plan on how to figure out why The Empire has taken a detour to Oninoshima, so they team up discover the truth. Through The Resistance's team of spies, they know to search for a hidden Empire cache, which the Looper was able to find by hotwiring a cannon into a mountain. Viewing them as an honorary rebel, Leia becomes even more determined to find the brave and skilled allies that this Island has after hearing what the Empire has planned.

During this time, Chewbacca begins to attack various Imperial Outposts, alongside providing battle assistance and Wookiee Bowcasters to the Resistance.

Episode III: Mandalorian Rising[]

The Mandalorian Warriors expect honor, loyalty, and strength whether among themselves, but also from their allies. However, they suspect that their most recent allies and employer, the Galactic Empire, betrayed them and their agreement. Ironically, the mercenaries recruits another mercenary, The Looper, in an effort to find proof of this speculated betrayal. Infiltrating Outposts to dig into the Empire's data, The Looper found irrefutable proof of their betrayal, as well as a plan that the Mandalorians deemed completely dishonorable once informed by The Looper.

Finding an honorable trust within The Looper, they break their contract with the Empire and turn against them, therefore joining The Resistance. Along with their allies, they freed Outpost Enclave from the imperial occupation. However, the Empire has not said its last word, and the second-in-command of the is ready to retaliate against the rebels, elaborating plans involving Star Destroyers from his base Vader Samurai's Solitude.

Episode IV: Star Destroyer Bombardment[]

As per Vader's orders, a Star Destroyer was deployed to bombard The Resistance and their allies. In the meantime, Emperor Palpatine ordered the Death Star's superlaser to be charged to decimate the Oninoshima Island.

Death Star-Stage3

Third Phase of the Death Star - June 7th

However, The Resistance has not said its last word and has every intention of retaliation. Leia Organa upgrades her Rebel Outpost with extra landing pads and rebel technology, with everybody preparing for the effort of infiltrating and sabotaging the Death Star itself from within, saving the Island from the Emperor's might for good.

Death Star Sabotage[]

After a successful assault on Star Destroyers around the Death Star, Hope, Jones, The Looper and their resistance allies successfully infiltrate the Death Star. Some disguise themselves as Stormtroopers, while others pose as prisoners, allowing them to slip past Imperial forces undetected. Once inside, they sabotage the tractor beam systems and other critical technologies, significantly reducing the Death Star's threat level—provided their mission succeeds.

Meanwhile, Fishstick attempts to experiment with a Rift-To-Go in space—an untested maneuver. The device caus him to vanish from the group and makes it appear in space, outside. This sabotage effort serves as the core of the resistance's inside operation, while the Blue Squadron maintains communication with Jones and Hope to coordinate their bombing run.

After disabling the Death Star's laser cannons, to allow Blue Leader's Tie Fighter Squadron to do their move, the team is soon confronted by a pair of Stormtroopers. Jones tries to use Jedi mind tricks, but the attempt fails, forcing the group to neutralize the enemies with conventional weapons. This is followed by a trip to the Tie Fighter ships room, with a fight against the Imperial forces. Just as escape seems within reach, a TIE Fighter crashes into the bridge, separating Hope from the rest of the team.

Trapped in what appears to be a dead end, the group faces Emperor Palpatine himself. He effortlessly deflects their attacks, disarms them using the Force, and overwhelms them with Force Lightning. With the team incapacitated and no options remaining, Jones prepares for the worst—until Hope returns just in time. She uses a Rift-To-Go to shield Jones from Palpatine's final strike. Though unsure if it would work, the gambit pays off: Jones, Hope and The Looper escapes moments before the Death Star explodes along with Fishstick and the few surviving members, falling toward the Island. However, the debris rains down on the Island, striking several places as well as the portal at Predator Peak.

Colliding with the Spirit Realm portal, the fragment triggered a powerful energy wave that hits the reality barrier surrounding Oninoshima and sends a reality wave across the Island, hitting a Battle Bus with people inside and granting superpowers. At the same time, The Looper crashed on Oninoshima, unconscious, after being hit by the powerful wave. Just like the people of the Battle Bus, they also awakened powers of an unknown nature. In the meantime, seizing the chaos, Mask Maker Daigo breaks free alongside the Demon Warriors and invades Oninoshima.

Chapter 6: Season 3[]

It is likely that any of the remaining army of the Galactic Empire's fleet went back to their home reality, while the rest of them were killed or otherwise severely harmed from the explosion of the Death Star.

Scrapped Storyline[]

  • According to Leaks from a reliable insider, the original story of this version of the Galactic Empire was to use their own Zero Shard to gather a Multiversal Council of Sith Lords. Palpatine then reportedly wanted Oninoshima's Zero Shard. This would have explained the staggering number of Sith Lords and the apparent breakdown of the Rule of Two as well as the number of fused eras. However, this storyline appears to have been scrapped for unknown reasons[5] and the Empire was made into a single organization from the same Reality.
    • Remnants of files relating to a Zero Point Waves, as well as scrapped dialogues not completely deleted for NPC's confirm the insiders' claims.

Trivia[]

  • This version of the Galactic Empire is different from the one seen in previous Fortnite X Star Wars events, as this one doesn't follow the Saga's canon.
  • Apprentice Evie was originally going to be the main opponent of General Grievous before it was shifted into Mace Windu.[6]
  • Darth Vader Samurai was replaced in Update v35.10 by the regular Darth Vader boss.
    • The key difference was that Vader now possessed a conversational AI feature.
  • In the Cinematic Trailer, Ares' Olympian banners could be spotted.
    • However, these banners are absent in-game.
  • In Hope's scrapped prophetic graffiti, we see Darth Vader Samurai depicted with a red X over his right eye.[7]
    • It was unknown if this is an artistic choice, or a prophecy of harming Vader.
    • Due to being scrapped, some of the prophecies ended up leading nowhere.
  • It is theorized that the Lost Lake statue possesses another Zero Point Shard.
    • The Statue's eyes are glowing blue, similarly in color to the Zero Point.
    • Palpatine was seen to be targeting Lonewolf Lair on the Empire's holotables.
    • Lonewolf Lair is targeted in the Star Destroyer promotional video.[8]
    • Considering the scrapped storylines, this was likely a plot point left hanging.
