Grapple Blade is a Melee Weapon in Fortnite: Battle Royale that was introduced in Chapter 5: Season 1.
The Grapple Blade has a Mythic version called Blitz Grapple Blade.
Functionality[]
The Grapple Blade is a multi-functional tool used to traverse the map quickly by grappling to different surfaces and swinging towards them. It can also be used offensively to attack opponents.
The Grapple Blade has a unique triangular reticle. As the player gets close to a surface or opponent, the reticle will open up and a blue inverted triangle will appear. When this is present, the Grapple Blade can be used by pressing the aim button. This will launch the Grapple Blade forward quickly and it will attach itself to the surface it was aimed at. The player will be launched towards the target at a high rate of speed. The player is immune to fall damage while grappling and while falling after grappling.
Using this grapple effect depletes a charge from the blade. After 13 seconds, the blade regains one charge. It has four charges.
Conversely, when the fire button is pressed, the Grapple Blade becomes a weapon with different sets of attacks. If the player is grounded, the blade will slash outwards in front of the player in a wide arc. The fire button may be pressed again quickly for another slash that does a bit less damage. Slashing in this manner will have the player take a step forward, giving the blade a bit of extra range. If the player is airborne or grappling, using the attack will cause the player to slash in a complete circle around themselves. This hitbox is not rigged to an animation; it is instantaneous.

- The Grapple Blade's grounded attack instantly breaks a Ballistic Shield's guard if the opponent is aiming with it. Using a quick slash, then blasting the opponent with a high-damage, close-range weapon is very effective against the Ballistic Shield.
- The Grapple's Blade's grounded attack also knocks back most entities in range. This includes NPCs, players and even cars. This can be used in multiple ways, such as forcing an opponent out of a vehicle by not allowing them to drive away or even throwing an opponent off a cliff.
- This is especially effective against opponents, as being thrown around in this manner can make it difficult for players to properly aim at the attacker.
- If an enemy is cornered against a wall, rapidly pressing the attack button can throw them against the wall. They will quickly rebound off the wall, allowing you to repeatedly hit them until they're eliminated.
- If a player interchanges using the grapple effect and their sprint, it can make crossing long distances quite fast compared to sprinting alone.
- The grapple can hook onto most solid surfaces. This includes things such as lamp posts and trees. Using these objects as grapple points can give the player some height above the terrain and increase the speed at which they cover ground.
