— In-Game Description

IO Guards are an AIs in Fortnite: Battle Royale. They were introduced in Chapter 2: Season 5 and spawn at Elevators at various locations across the map.

Behavior

During a standard match of Battle Royale, 3 IO Guards will spawn from an Elevator at various locations across the map. Elevators make an ambient noise before rising up and spawn IO Guards. IO Guards behave similar to Marauders, attacking players after a short period of time although they won't leave their Elevator. IO Guards will not attack other AIs. The only exception is the IO Guards in Hunter's Haven, which will attack Lexa.

When Lexa defeats an IO Guard, she will do these emotes: Springy, Boogie Down, and Disco Fever.

When knocked down, IO Guards can be Shakendown to locate other IO Guards in the area. IO Guards can be revived by fellow IO Guards if players leave them unattended. All IO Guards will be eliminated upon a player knocking all of them down, dropping their Weapons amongst other Items.

IO Guards have 100 Health and 250 Shield, plus the standard 100 Health when knocked.

Warning:
This article contains speculation and/or fan theories.

Some information on this page may not be factually correct.

  • IO guards are likely not here to fix The Zero Point, but are tasked to eliminate players and prevent them from entering The Zero Point, and possibly escape The Loop.
  • There is a potential connection between the role of the AIs and the role of The Enforcer, as they look very similar, were introduced in parallel Seasons (Season 5, Chapter 2: Season 5) and The Enforcer has a similar description to the speculated role of the IO Guards.

Strategy

The risk was calculated... but I'm bad at math.
This section outlines a strategy. Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic.

  • IO Guards can be very powerful, especially in groups considering their high health. It is often helpful to snipe one before challenging it, and to harpoon it away from the other IO Guards to deal with it on one's own.
  • They hit their shots most when the player is moving, so First Shot Accuracy is useful when fighting them

Trivia

  • IO Guards first appeared in the Chapter 2: Season 5 Story Trailer, in which they were seen frantically running around the office that Agent John Jones was present at.
  • IO Guards use a very similar player model to the Sledge outfit.
  • The Outfit can be obtained on developer accounts and is called I.O. Troopers with the Epic Rarity.
  • This Outfit can also be obtained by eliminating an IO Guard as the Mystique outfit, and using her Shapeshifter Emote to temporarily transform into one.
  • IO Guards are not a guaranteed spawn, as they can either not deploy at all from the location, or the Elevator will be replaced by a variety of different objects. The latter is very rare however.
  • According to one of Ragnarok's quests, Ragnarok thinks the IO Guards are actually machines and not humans. This is referenced by the phrase "Take those machines down!"
