- Joel is based on Joel Crabbe, an employee of Epic Games who helped program Fortnite's Save the World in 2011. Joel however passed away in 2016. This survivor's description may be reference to his real life personality. He is credited in the beginning of the credits in-game along with Karolina Grochowska.
