The Lobby is a UI Element in Fortnite, where players gather before actually entering the match. The Lobby allows players to customize their character, communicate with other players, and prepare for the upcoming match. Some Lobby elements only appear when a specific playlist is selected.
The Play tab is the main part of the Lobby. It displays all party members' current Characters, and while in it, it is possible to perform Emotes and use Emojis. The player's current Season Level, Survivor Medal, Season Rank (only if a Ranked Playlist is selected), and the current Experience's age and content rating (if any) can be seen on the bottom right. A Chat system is also present in the Lobby, which be used to exchange text messages between all party members in the Party Chat or between friends in private chats.
The Play tab also contains 2 different submenus:
Discover[]
Discover is a menu which allows you to choose which Playlist you want to load into. All Core Gamemodes playlists and many Creative experiences can be found in this menu.
News[]
A carousel-style tab that displays the current Fortnite News.
The Passes is a tab where you can see the current passes (Battle Pass, Music Pass, LEGO Pass, and Fortnite OG Pass) your current Battle Pass level, gift/buy the Battle Pass, and unlock rewards from those passes.
The Battle Pass tab also features various quests exclusive to the Battle Pass, including those for the Mystery Outfits. A section for the current Fortnite Crew is also present.
The Quests is a tab where you can see all current available and finished quests. Some quests can only be seen when a specific Playlist is selected, such as Festival Quests, which only appears when a Fortnite Festival playlist is selected.
The Locker is a tab where you can select what cosmetics you choose to wear. You can also load into different locker presets and create presets, alongside modifying them.
The Item Shop is a tab where you can view a wide array of different cosmetics that can be purchased with V-Bucks or real life currencies. The Item Shop resets daily, and changes up the offers each time it does so.
The V-Bucks tab is where you can purchase V-Bucks. The game offers the purchase of V-Bucks which can be used to purchase additional cosmetics or tasks.
The Career is a tab where you can view your stats and saved Replays, as well as the level of the account itself, obtained from the sum of all earned Season Levels across all Seasons up to that moment.
Formerly, you could also view all Legacy Achievements you unlocked in every single Battle Pass season, starting from Chapter 2: Season 1. This changed in Update v26.30, when the Lobby's UI received a complete overhaul, including the Career tab, which now only displays the player stats.
The Compete is a tab that shows all current competitive events, past competitve events, and future competive events. You can select a certain event to look at the details, scoring, prizes and leaderboard.
The Festival Pass is a tab where you can see the current Festival Pass, your current Festival Pass level, buy the Festival Pass, and unlock rewards from the Festival Pass.
This tab (along with the LEGO Pass) was merged into the Passes section.
Miscellaneous[]
Sometimes, another tab will be tacked onto the end of the Lobby's interface.
Such examples include Winterfest access like in Winterfest 2022. Other sections may concern collaborations that show tasks with the purchase of extra rewards.
During The End, a mini event happened inside the lobby, which transported players into the black hole. It did not happen again in The End of Chapter 2, neither in The Big Bang (despite it referencing The End of Chapter 1), as it instantly goes to the downtime scene. When entering Collision, a custom animation would happen, where all party members' Characters would jump into a hole below them, to then spawn inside the Mecha Strike Commander. Another custom animation played when entering Fracture, with Chrome spilling down onto the lobby. It'd appear the Fracture animation was botched, as all party members' Characters were intended to float into the chrome as it spilt down, for most players this did not happen.
Lobby Backgrounds Timeline[]
On special occasions, the Lobby has undergone changes in its background, this happens when there is a collaboration or important event.
