Trivia[]
- The Machine SMG was in the files for over 11 seasons, or roughly 3 years before it was released to the game. It was in a fully functional state but only released in Chapter 3: Season 1.
- The Machine SMG is modeled after the Israeli UZI, specifically the Mini version.
- It had been suggested/teased multiple times for its addition:
- A Creative Featured Island News page on July 21st 2020 featured the Machine SMG in its image.
- The Google Play Store had shown an image of it.
- The weapon was added to Creative mode in Chapter 3, but removed shortly after.
- The promo video for the Pizza Party Consumable also showed the Machine SMG.
- A Challenge in Week 12 of Chapter 3: Season 1 has "Deal damage with a Machine Pistol."
- When the Machine SMG officially arrived, the official Fortnite page post made several jokes about its various unofficial inclusions (examples: The Machine Pistol finally arrives… officially / Say hello to the Machine Pistol! Seriously this time.
- Confusion used to exist between this gun and the old Submachine Gun, as the weapons bore many similarities. Both weapons:
- Came in the same three rarities (The Machine SMG later got 2 more)
- Are classed as Submachine Guns.
- Both modelled after real life machine pistols.
- Use(s)(d) the same WID in the game files.
- Have a similar function and statistics. The Machine SMG also frequently appears in the Unvaulted LTM, despite the weapon never being vaulted, if it was classed as a separate weapon.
- The Machine SMG was renamed from Machine Pistol to Machine SMG as it is not a Pistol in-game.
- However, the naming does not make any sense, as a Machine Pistol is a legitimate class of weapons, but a Machine SMG is not.
- The renaming is possibly because its former name (Machine Pistol) would be misleading when it comes to pistol-based Augments such as Pistol Amp.
