— In-Game Description

Mako is an Uncommon Glider in Fortnite, that could have been unlocked by reaching Level 25 in Season 1. However, it was released to the Item Shop for V-Bucks - Icon - Fortnite 500 V-Bucks on January 2nd 2018 and this created a controversy. Mako was first released in Season 1.

Trivia[]

  • Mako was released into the Item Shop on January 2nd of 2018 for V-Bucks - Icon - Fortnite 500 V-Bucks, and it was removed quickly after that.
    • A thread on the r/FortNiteBr subreddit was posted by user u/officialSHEB, and gained over 300 upvotes from the community. u/officialSHEB gave his opinion on the release of the Mako glider in the item shop, stating that it felt like a "slap in the face of the players", and that seasonal items should be kept exclusive as memorabilia, a proof that the player had participated in a specific season. This had caught Epic Games's attention, and a (now formerly) Epic employee, known as u/S-LG, gave out an official statement from the company:
Including the Mako Glider in the daily items for today (Jan, 2) was a mistake on our part, we are removing it now. We plan to keep all items from Season 1 and 2 exclusive. As we work to expand in future seasons, rewards may include a mix of exclusive and non-exclusive items.

What do you think? Do you want the opportunity to purchase items from multiple seasons ago, or should season rewards be completely exclusive?

— u/SL-G
  • u/officialSHEB's thread and the community's feedback from that incident might have influenced the exclusivity that future (and previous) Battle Pass and Season Shop cosmetics would have. Since then, Epic Games has never released any Battle Pass cosmetic in the item shop on purpose, and instead makes remixes, separate variants of Battle Pass outfits and cosmetics.
