The Mimic is a Husk Monster in Fortnite: Save the World. They take the form of a level 3 Chest when disguised. Their true form is the Chest as their head and the body is similar to Lobbers. While opening, the chest will open slower than a real Level 3 chest, make noise, and stretch/squash. Opening the chest spawns a Mimic at that location.

AI Behavior

Mimics reveal their true form if a player attempts to open when disguised as a chest or attacks it. Their only attack is to bite players with the chest mouth, dealing large damage. If a player does not attack the Mimic for a period of time, the Mimic returns to its disguised form and fully restores health.

Successfully defeating a Mimic will reward everyone who is nearby.

• A Radar Tower scans disguised Mimics as chests, while Outlander's "In The Zone" ability does not.
• Mimics have the following characteristics that allow players to distinguish them from a Level 3 Chest.
  • They face directly to either south, north, east, or west, sometimes towards the wall, while chests usually face the direction which players usually come from.
  • They have different light particle effects than real chests depending on graphic settings.
  • When about to be opened, they make minor movements and noise to warn players.
• High DPS ranged weapons are recommended against Mimics.
• Mimics move faster than a backstepping player.
  • Since the implementation of Sliding in Safe the World, Sliding allows players to move away from Mimics while reloading their weapons.
  • Because Mimics usually appear in narrow, confined places, building some barricades before disturbing the Mimic will buy some time.
• For some reason, Mimics do trigger the "Explosive Death Bomb" mission modifier, even if they are neither a kind of Husky.

• The idea of Save the World Mimics being mistaken for Chests that represent items is similar to a mimic, a monster archetype commonly found in role-playing games.
