- — Montague
Montague is the founder of The Society who was introduced in Chapter 5: Season 1. He is a French professional thief, a diamond manipulator and the owner of Grand Glacier hotel.
He is a major antagonist of Fortnite: Battle Royale, serving as one of the main antagonists of Chapter 5: Season 1.
Personality[]
Montague is described as a man with heart of diamond and nerves of steel, demonstrating an impressive ability to remain calm in dangerous or difficult situations and great strength of mind. Montague loves challenges and dangerous situations as according to him, feeling his heart race is a flawless sensation[4]. However, Montague strongly believes in the oligarchic system, more precisely in plutocracy, that is to say that the richest must rule. This is why he created The Society, in order to establish his vision on the island. Over time he would end up believing himself to be a god and sought to obtain their power, before having to face the end of his dream by true gods. This event revealed his coward side, as he fled the Island just like Valeria to survive without facing the consequences of his acts.
Appearance[]
Montague appears as a middle aged man with black and white hair and a very slim build. He wears an amulet containing a blue relic similar to the Ruby Relic, the one that Valeria owns. He also has complete heterochromia iridum, with his left iris being brown and his right iris being blue.

Diamond Manipulation Ability to create and manipulate diamond, he is also able to cover any part of his body to diamond. The source of this power comes from his glowing amulet that he wears around his neck. |
Timeline[]
Chapter 5: Season 1[]
Montague founded The Society and united all of the Island's most rich and powerful elites together, in an effort to find more power and wealth for himself. He invited the Hesk family, to join the Society multiple times, only to be routinely denied with their youngest heir deciding to stand against them and join the side of Hope. Valeria would later convince him and the other bosses to join her in the search for Pandora's Box, promising them greater power. Montague would stay at Grand Glacier with his Legion Guards guarding his territory while Nisha and Oscar kidnapped Peely, and Valeria searching for the Box's location. During the Takedown Quests, Montague and the other Society bosses were defeated by Hope, Jones and The Looper, leaving most of The Society in shambles, and all bosses without their Medallions.
Chapter 5: Season 2[]
After Valeria opened Pandora's Box, Zeus and The Pantheon arrive on the Island to punish all mortals, with Zeus planning to eliminate them all starting with the mortals who originally caused this mess, that being The Society. But Montague viewing himself and his Society as godlike and unstoppable confronted the gods with Nisha, Kavel, Oscar and an army of Commanders on his side, notably against Zeus[6], Artemis[7] and Poseidon[8], on several occasions with little to no success leading them to go into hiding with Montague fleeing the island alongside Valeria[9].
Chapter 5: Season 3[]
Other Society Members such as Oscar, Nisha and Kavel have since reemerged and have gone out of hiding with Oscar now planning to work his way up from the ground, and Nisha and Kavel who have both joined The Underground, yet Montague and Valeria are still in hiding and have yet to return as of now.
Trivia[]
- His name is based on the surname of the male protagonist of William Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet, Romeo Montague.
- Both characters come from a high social class.
- Both characters are European, however while Romeo is Italian, it is implied that Montague is French.
- Just from Montague's appearance, power and role in the storyline his character was likely inspired by Midas.
- Montague is much older than he looks, and it's highly likely that something, possibly his diamond relic, is prolonging his life.
- As revealed by Oscar, Hope and Nisha were raised in The Society, meaning that Montague founded The Society at the very least twenty years ago.
- Although Montague is the founder and a head leader of The Society, he is not respected in any way - with both Clara and Nisha referring to him as thief.
- Nisha reveals that her family has been part of The Society for multiple generations[10], pushing the founding date back much further.
- It's also possible that it's just Montague's natural lifespan, as other human looking characters such as Rift Warden Stellan are revealed to have lived centuries without being immortal or having any technology or power allowing them to live longer.
- Artemis, when asked about Hope and Valeria's lineage, states that every family in The Society has their connections to The Pantheon, confirming that Hope's and Nisha's families have an ancestor of some sort connected to the gods, meaning that potentially Montague might as well.
