Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite is a Live Event in Fortnite: Battle Royale.

It featured the premiere of a simple short: Apple is declaring war on Epic Games in a movie theater when suddenly Brite Bomber, being chased by a group of Sledges, runs in and destroys the screen featuring Tart Tycoon by hurling her Rainbow Smash harvesting tool at the screen.

This is a parody of "1984", an apple commercial for the Macintosh personal computer, which is itself an allusion to the book of the same name by George Orwell.

Background

On August 13th, Epic decided to reduce the price of Vbucks & Limited Time Offers permanently with a hotfix. This also brought the addition of a new feature on iOS devices; Epic Direct Payment. This feature made purchases cheaper than buying from the App Store which adds 30% to any purchase.

After a few hours, Fortnite was removed by Apple from the App Store.

A Party Royale show was announced on their Twitter titled “Nineteen Eighty-Four”. Fortnite’s followers were confused and didn’t take much notice until Fortnite added to the News Feed in-game.

Within minutes of the event being over, at 4:01 PM ET, #FreeFortnite was trending #1 on Twitter.

In just under an hour, Fortnite decided to tweet out some important information for their followers. They said:
“Epic Games has filed legal papers in response to Apple, read more here: cdn2.unrealengine.com/apple-complain…”

The reaction from the community was mainly positive. This was talked about by several different YouTubers/Twitter users (including Tabor Hill, ITalk, postboxpat, iFireMonkey, and more).

Later, Android users noticed that Fortnite had disappeared from the Google Play Store. A trusted insider (@Slasher on Twitter) revealed that Epic had also filed a lawsuit against Google.

Fortnite tweeted out about the subject with one tweet 4 hours after the original rumours began & 2 hours after the lawsuit rumours. They stated:
“Fortnite is currently unavailable on Google Play. More information will be forthcoming soon.”
