- — In-Game Description
ODM Gear is a Mythic Utility Item in Fortnite: Battle Royale, added in Chapter 4: Season 2.
Functionality[]
ODM Gear's primary function is being used to traverse swiftly by grappling to different surfaces and swinging towards them. It can grapple onto two points at once. The other function it has is attacking, you can prepare and then launch an attack, which will grapple you to the reticle, unleashing a rotating AOE slash attack. Afterwards, you are given a shockwave effect and can float for a short period of time. You can attack several times in succession, but this will affect the item's durability.
Unlike the previous mobility items, the ODM gear has a durability bar, which is used up by grappling or attacking. When this runs out, the item breaks. If you touch the ground or let go while grappling, a short cooldown begins. Much like the Grapple Glove and Spider-Man's Web Shooters, grappling several times in succession slows down the cooldown. Similarly, being damaged in the air causes a free fall, allowing fall damage to be taken. The ODM Gear does not deal damage to an opponent blocking with a lightsaber.
Stats[]
The ODM Gear's cooldown is used up in different amounts depending on the action performed. Note: The ODM Gear always starts with 100% usage after recharging or initially obtaining.
Initially Grappling Onto A Surface: 4%
Attacking: 25%
Holding Onto A Surface Takes Around 1% every 0.5 seconds.
After using 100% of its current usage, it enters a cooldown of around 12.5 seconds.
When landing a direct hit on a player, the ODM Gear will first do 10 damage with its piston-shot grapple hooks and then 70 damage with the blades.
Fully using 100% of the cooldown uses about 1/4 of the total durability meaning you attack at max 16 times with one ODM Gear and grapple 80 times, similar to the Spider-Man's Web-Shooters, however, they are able to hold onto a target forever, while the ODM Gear takes durability achieving that.
Grapple Range: 45 Meters
Attack Range: 58 Meters

Strategy Guide[]

This section outlines a strategy. | |
Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic. |
- The ODM Gear enables many styles of gameplay catering towards mobility; making use of the grapple hooks to quickly and sporadically traverse the map, towards offence; making use of both the lunge attack and grapple hooks to disorient and deal a maximum of 320 damage (using all 4 attacks to deal 280 from the blades and 40 from direct hits, allowing one to eliminate a player with 250 health.) and most importantly towards versatility; saving inventory space with a mythic that serves more than 2 item slots worth of functions.
- It is ideal to have the ODM Gear, Lightsaber, or Kinetic Blade during the last few zones to rotate faster.
- The user needs to be very precise with the ODM Gear's attack, as it wears a big chunk of it's durability down. Which could leave them in a complicated situation if not careful.
Known Issues[]
In Team Rumble, the ODM Gear's cooldown can run into some issues because of the respawn mechanic. One bug includes respawning with under 100% cooldown or being unable to use it, requiring it to be dropped and picked back up.
Weapon ID[]
ODM Gear is referred to as Nyx Glass in the files.
- Mythic: WAGID_NyxGlass
- Epic: WID_NyxGlass
