The pepper effect is a gameplay mechanic that is designated to aid player movement, and results in greater speeds and momentum. It was first added to Fortnite: Battle Royale in Season 8.
Functionality[]
The pepper effect can be applied with a variety of items. It grants increased walking, crouching and swimming speed and greater momentum. The effect is indicated by a red trace left behind the player and puffs of white smoke coming from the player’s ears.

Trivia[]
- The effect can be applied to any AI or Animal, but shows no effect on Cube Monsters.
- The effect was planned to have been introduced around Season 5 with a foraged "Hot Sauce" consumable. It was eventually scrapped (and most likely recycled into the Pepper) while its model was recycled for a prop available in Creative.
