The Primal SMG is a Submachine Gun in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It was introduced in Chapter 2: Season 6.

Functionality[]

The Primal SMG functions very similarly to the Submachine Gun, in that it fires a fast stream of inaccurate bullets. As such, it is ideal for close quarters engagements, and suffers at longer ranges.

Stats[]

Primal SMGs range from dealing 52 to 61 Damage per shot (65 to 68.75 Damage per second). All Primal SMGs use Light Bullets - Ammunition - Fortnite Light Bullets. The Primal SMG has a headshot multiplier of 1.75x.

The Primal SMG cannot be upgraded. However, Makeshift Submachine Guns will upgrade into Primal SMGs for 2/4/6 Animal Bones depending on rarity.

  • The Primal SMG is good when swapped after a Shotgun, more specifically a Pump Shotgun. This is because Shotguns have a cooldown period when switching between them, so if you are out of ammo, an SMG works in close quarters and does not trigger the cooldown.

  • Update v16.00: The Primal SMG is introduced in Uncommon to Legendary. It is part of the new craftable weapons system.
  • Hotfix (4/15/2021): Increased the damage from 18/19/20/21 to 19/20/21/22. Fire Rate increased from 9.0 to 10.0
  • Update v16.30: Added all variants to Creative.

  • The Primal SMG's appearance is a remodeled Blackout Assault Rifle from Save the World. Making it appear more Primal and red compared to the original.
    • The weapons statistically aren't similar as the Blackout is a fast firing 2 round burst and uses Medium Bullets while the Primal SMG is a full auto SMG that uses Light Bullets.
