- It is numbered after the Arrowverse's multiverse canonically only having 52 universes before the Crisis on Infinite Earths event. In the comics, there were infinite universes before the crisis, after which the DC multiverse was condensed down to one universe, followed by Infinite Crisis where it was expanded back to exactly 52 universes. After the events of Flashpoint, DC ran a line of comics known as "The New 52" which is commonly mistaken for the title of the post-Flashpoint continuity.[1][2][3][4]
