Recruits, most commonly referred to as Default Skins or simply Defaults, are a collection of Outfits that are randomly selected if no outfit is selected in the Locker. These outfit cannot be selected in the locker. Some past Defaults can be purchased in the Item Shop.
The Chapter 1 Recruits are based on the various Soldier Heroes from Fortnite: Save the World.

- Only three Recruits stayed as Recruits in Chapter 2: Season 1 being Jonesy, Banshee and Ramirez.
- Later, Wildcat would return, making it 4 veterans.
- Jonesy and Ramirez are the only characters to be Recruits since Chapter 1.
- Outfits based on the Chapter 1 (Origins Set) and first wave of Chapter 2 Recruits (Recruit Redux Set) are purchasable in the Item Shop.
- The Chapter 2 Recruits have the logo of the Storm Shield from Save the World even if they do not make an appearance as Heroes.
- The Seven Sentries use the same model as Chapter 3 Recruits, though with helmets similar to those of The Seven.
- Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 reuse the Chapter 3 Recruits.
- Chapter 5 introduced new recruits, however they are only accessible in Fortnite Festival and Rocket Racing.
