This item has been made unavailable in standard playlists to balance the loot pool. It may return in the future.

Rift Encounters are random events that can happen when playing a match of Fortnite: Battle Royale.

Overview[]

Rift Encounters function similar to IO Elevators, as they can happen anywhere on the island and will activate when a player is near; when triggered, it will be signaled by a loud sound and something rifting nearby. The encounter that has rifted in has a chance to have loot and might also have a Character appear to give the location more context, though in some scenarios the Outfit used is random. The character is either Passive or Hostile and mostly cannot be interacted with directly while they move around the encounter's location to do different emotes and comment about the situation rifted in.

List of Possible Encounters[]

Note: Due to the varying landscape these Encounters can appear in, some objects mentioned may not be present.

Normal Rift Encounters[]

The scenes are either normal every day scenarios, situations where the Character used would make sense, or make reference to old Fortnite History. These include:

Trap Warning (Decal) - Spray - FortniteThis section is a stub. Help the Fortnite Wiki by expanding it!
  • A Blue Bus Stop with a Character grouchily waiting inside. Bringing any Vehicle to the Bus stop will make the Character happy and reward the player with loot.
  • A Chicken Coup with three Chickens inside and Hayseed/Tender Defender watching over it. The chickens have a high chance of carrying loot and eliminating one will cause the Character to cry.
  • Madcap meditating with a large amount of Mushrooms surrounding him. All the Mushrooms available will be enough to top up your shields.
  • A Small Cache with an Upgrade Station, three Safes, two Chests and three Ammo Boxes. Sgt. Green Clover can be found remarking how lucky this encounter is.
  • A Broken Building Corner with six Safes inside. Loveless can be seen within, reveling in the wealth she's amassed. Opening one Safe will instantly make her hostile.
  • An Interest Debate of Slap VS Slurp between Outcast/Bone Wasp and Slurp Leviathan/Slurp Bandolette/Rippley. Both sides having their brand's barrel (slap and slurp respectively) behind them, breaking one side's supply will make that side's character angry and the opposing side happy. However, breaking both supplies replays their arguing emotes.
  • A Surplus Stock of Slurp Barrels with Slurp Leviathan/Slurp Bandolette/Rippley in the middle handing out the barrels to anyone in need, stating that there's no problem slurp can't solve.
  • A Stand off between Mecha Strike Commander/Dark Sentinel and Blackheart/Oro with Cobblestone Cover in Between. The Characters deal no structure damage and will instantly fight each other upon spawn. The player can choose who to help, however no additional rewards will be given outside of the four Chests around the wall.
  • A Big Container that can spawn five-to-seven Wolves inside. The wolves have a high chance of carrying loot.
  • Some Rubble and a Dinosaur Skull with Rex and Tricera Ops stomping around their turf.
  • Four Different Vending Machines with a Character trying to decide which one to buy from. There is also a bench nearby.
  • A Compact Beach Site with four Coolers. Beach Brutus/Scuba Crystal can be found partying in it.
  • Two Tables that have a chance to spawn up to twelve Ammo Boxes. Munitions Major/Special Forces/Sledgehammer is also present next to the tables, giving away the munitions to anyone needing them.
  • A Few City Props with a Character dancing under a Street Light.
  • A Chunk of a Restaurant with Peekaboo and Slurp Leviathan/Slurp Bandolette/Rippley sitting at a table also taken in.
  • A Makeshift Hammock made out of a small boat between two trees, three Chests are nearby and two boxes of Green Apples are on the boat, though they don't give Apples when destroyed. Dummy/Farmer Steel/Sunflower has a rare chance to spawn behind the Chests confused.
  • A Part of An IO Surface Hub with Fox Clan members Drift, Catalyst, and Vi present. Upon spawn they will all be resting or scouting, though when a player moves close they will get startled, and one will state that they can't be here and must leave; shortly after, they all rift out of the encounter. Three chests, two tables with Ammo boxes, and two coolers are also available for the player.
    • As of Update v23.40, this Encounter received minimal changes: the encounter itself is slightly more damaged, one Ammo Box table is replaced with a barricade, and only two of the members are now present. They still scan the area, and the same interaction happens with different dialogue, followed by them rifting away upon getting too close.
    • As of Update v23.50, this Encounter has been updated once again: the remaining Ammo Box table now flipped on its side as cover, another barricade is added in place of a chest, and now only one member spawns, who can be seen sweating or crying, possibly in panic. The remaining member will no longer rift away upon the player getting closer.

Winterfest Rift Encounters[]

Rift Encounters that were exclusive to Winterfest 2022:

  • Mr. Dappermint singing a carol with nine Peppermint Lollipops surrounding him. If approached, he will stop singing and morph into a bunch of loot, equating to a Supply Drop's amount.
  • A Holiday Present presented by a Christmas-themed Character. Inside is a small Christmas tree with two Chests and two Dirt Bikes.

Specialist Rifts[]

Specialist Rifts appear like normal Rift Encounters, but have a guaranteed Specialist Character spawn. Possible Specialist Rifts include:

  • A Makeshift Medical Tent. Includes Medic Specialist Field Surgeon.
  • A Sandbagged Sniper Tower. Includes Scout Specialist Archetype.
  • A Mini Satellite Tower with supplies next to its base. Includes Supply Specialist Munitions Major.

Star Wars Rift Encounters[]

Rift Encounters that were exclusive to Find the Force prior to the execution of Order 66:

  • A Cafeteria Chunk with a kitchen and a Republic Chest near the hall door, alongside two Clone Troopers taking a break. The wall layout is similar to the Fox Clan Rift Encounter.
  • A Rockside with Tree being occupied by one Clone Trooper. Includes one Slurp Barrel, a Single Lock Key Crate, a Double Lock Key Crate, and an unlit Cozy Campfire.
  • A Galactic Republic Affiliated Infantry Camp being guarded by two Clone Troopers. Inside the barracks contains a Republic Crate.
  • An Armory Chunk with a Republic Chest, a shelf that can spawn up to nine Ammo Boxes, and an Upgrade Station. A single Clone Trooper also appears guarding the spot.

Dialogue[]

Bushranger: Newtree newtree! Bushy will help new friend grow bigstrong.
Bloom: O young tree, you will grow wondrous and bright!

Rippley vs Sludge: There's no problem Slurp can't solve!

Madcap: My mushroom kin are prepared to aid you in your quest, friend!

Loveless: You'd better stay back, love. This is MY big score!

Special Forces: Ammo up!

Sgt. Green Clover: Well, isn't it our lucky day!

Mecha-Pop: Your new ride's ready.

Peekaboo: Time for some scares in the skies!

Version 1[]

Drift: This place... ? We can't be here, we need to get back.

Version 2[]

Vi: Again!? No! Not right now. Not when they need us.

Sayara: Like a fool, I have misplaced the key to my secret cache.
Sayara: I am certain there is some sign of where I buried my key...
Sayara: This is precisely the spot I hid my key... isn't it?
Sayara: I must find it... I must ascertain its location...
Sayara: It has been a very long time since I buried that chest.
Sayara: A reward to any who assists me in finding my lost key.

Trivia[]

  • It's possible for the Port-a-Potty Rift Encounter to send you within any Vault on the Island that contains a Port-a-Potty, allowing players to get inside the vault without needing to defeat the Boss guarding it. Due to the rarity of this happening, it was never patched out during Most Wanted.
  • The Port-a-Potty Rift Encounter has been disabled more than any of the available ones. It was also the only one to still be disabled before Chapter 4: Season OG.
