Rift Gates are a Gameplay Mechanic in Fortnite: Battle Royale that were introduced in Chapter 4: Season 2 for the Find the Force event. They allow the player to gain a new weapon and various Force abilities.
Overview[]
Jedi and Sith Holograms teleport via rift onto the map shortly after the beginning of the game. If interacted with, they offer their training to the player, and, if accepted, grant them new abilities after passing through a Rift Gate.
Every hologram provides the player with a unique Lightsaber which enables double jumping and faster sprint when held. However, these abilities come at the cost of increased energy consumption.

Darth Sidious 
[]
Darth Sidious's hologram grants a Sith Apprentice Lightsaber and the Force Lightning ability, allowing the player to shock opponents with lightning, dealing 15 damage per tick. The ability has a minimum cooldown of 12 seconds and a maximum of 18 seconds.
Darth Vader 
[]
Darth Vader is different from the other Rift Gates, where he needs to be defeated first before it can be accessed. Once defeated and accepted he grants a Sith Apprentice Lightsaber and the Force Saber Throw ability, allowing the player to throw any Lightsaber in the direction they are aiming, dealing 70 damage. This ability has a cooldown of 2 seconds.
Rey

Rey's hologram grants a blue Jedi Padawan Lightsaber and the Force Push ability, enabling the player to push objects and enemies away. The ability has a cooldown of 12 seconds and deals no fall damage.
Mace Windu 
[]
Mace Windu's hologram grants a purple Jedi Padawan Lightsaber and the Force Pull ability, enabling the player to pull objects and enemies towards you. This ability can also pull opponents through walls, has a windup time of 1 second, a cooldown of 20 seconds and deals no damage.
Darth Maul []
Darth Maul's hologram grants a Sith Apprentice Lightsaber and the Force Throw ability, enabling the player to lift objects from the environment and hurl them at opponents, dealing 30 damage per object thrown. The ability has a cooldown of 15 seconds.

Ahsoka Tano []
Ahsoka Tano's hologram grants a Jedi Training Lightsaber and the Force Push ability, enabling the player to push objects and enemies away. The ability has a cooldown of 10 seconds and deals no fall damage.
Chapter 4: Season 2[]
Darth Maul []
Darth Maul's hologram grants a Sith Apprentice Lightsaber and the Force Throw ability, enabling the player to lift objects from the environment and hurl them at opponents, dealing 40 damage per object thrown. The ability has a cooldown of 15 seconds.
Obi-Wan Kenobi []
Obi-Wan Kenobi's hologram grants a green Jedi Padawan Lightsaber and the Force Push ability, enabling the player to push objects and enemies away. The ability has a cooldown of 8 seconds and deals no fall damage.
Anakin Skywalker []
Anakin Skywalker's hologram grants a blue Jedi Padawan Lightsaber and the Force Pull ability, enabling the player to pull objects and enemies towards you. This ability can also pull opponents through walls, has a windup time of 3 seconds, a cooldown of 25 seconds and deals no damage.

Trivia[]
- Picking up a Lightsaber after eliminating an opponent will not grant Force abilities, as well as the double jump. These can only be obtained from Rift Gates.
- Additionally, picking up a different Lightsaber will not switch the Force ability.

Rift Gates are one of the two possible appearance of Rifts in Fortnite: Battle Royale. They were first introduced during Chapter 2: Season 5.
Appearance[]
Rift Gates appear as "doors" opened by the energy of the Zero Point. They differ greatly from the classic appearance of rifts in that there are no cracks and the arrival point is clearly visible.

Chapter 2: Season 5[]
They appeared around the map after Agent Jones used his Portal Device to 'hire' Hunters from other realities and put them in The Loop.
The Walking Dead Portal[]
The Walking Dead Portal opened up on December 16th, 2020 and brought Daryl Dixon and Michonne. It made walker growls as the player passed by.

Marvel: Royalty & Warriors Portal[]
The Marvel: Royalty & Warriors Portal opened up on December 19th, 2020 and brought the cosmetics of the Marvel: Royalty & Warriors Pack. It played a muffled version of the War's Horizon Lobby Music Pack.

Predator Portal[]
The Predator Portal opened up on January 19th, 2021 and brought the Predator. It was found outside of Stealthy Stronghold and depicted the Guatemalan jungle from the original film.

Terminator Portal[]
The Terminator Portal opened up on January 20th, 2021 and brought Sarah Connor and T-800. It was found outside of Steamy Stacks and depicted the interior of Cyberdyne Systems' headquarters.

TRON Portal[]
The TRON Portal opened up on February 10th, 2021 and brought the Grid Warriors. It was found near Lake Canoe and depicted the Tron system.

Street Fighter Portal[]
The Street Fighter Portal opened up on February 19th, 2021 and brought Ryu and Chun-Li. It was found near Sweaty Sands and depicted the Suzaku Castle stage. It had a CRT filter with pixelated particles, and played a distorted version of Ryu's theme from Street Fighter II.

Alien Portal[]
The Alien Portal opened up on February 24th, 2021 and brought Ellen Ripley (and, involuntarily, the Xenomorph). It was found near Slurpy Swamp and depicted the interior of the Hadley's Hope colony.

The Ant-Man Portal opened up on March 5th, 2021 and brought Ant-Man. It was found near Gorgeous Gorge.

Zero Crisis Finale Portals[]
4 Portals can be seen in Zero Crisis Finale, all of which the player must close with the aid of Agent Jones' Portal Device.
Chapter 4: Season 2[]
Anakin Skywalker, Darth Maul and Obi-Wan Kenobi appeared as holograms and opened Rift Gates in order to allow The Looper to train with them in the ways of the force.
Chapter 4: Season 4[]
Ahsoka Tano came to Reality Zero through a Rift Gate.

Trivia[]
- Both Sideways Rift and Pure Portals can take the form of Rift Gates.
- Pure Portals mostly appeared as Rift Gates, especially when opened by Jones's Portal Device.
- Rift Warden Stellan's Rift Gate, powered by Kinetic Ore, was meant to open Sideways Rift as Rift Gates. However, following sabotage and destabilization of the gate, the Rift took the form of a space-time crack.
