Rift Zones were several named locations on the Battle Royale island that were created by The Scientist's Rift Beacons. Each had a bubble with Zero Point energy emitting from above them. Rifts were also visible above the bubbles. Some Rift Zones had alternate variations of locations such as Retail Row with monsters. Rift Zones played a fairly major role throughout the storyline of Season X. As well as playing a part in The End.
There were theories from the community that speculate that the Rift Zones were made to bring The Seven to the island, which most likely was the case.
Rift Zones[]

Tilted Town | Tilted Town was the very first Rift Zone added in 10.00 Content Update, replacing Neo Tilted. It was a Wild West themed town that resembled a potential old version of Tilted Towers before it was added. The rules of Tilted Town’s bubble were that objects could not be broken or built inside of it. It was replaced by Gotham City in the Fortnite X Batman crossover.
Retail Row | Retail Row was the second Rift Zone added in Patch 10.10, replacing Mega Mall which replaced Retail in Season 9. Inside of Retail’s bubble, Cube spawners constantly spawned in it and created Cube Monsters.
Pandora | Pandora was the third Rift Zone added in Patch 10.20, replacing some of the desert POIs. It had lots of rocky terrain and two different small settlements. Pandora’s bubble caused players inside of it to very quickly regain shields. Pandora was a limited time Rift Zone, so it only stayed around until Patch 10.30. It was added for a crossover with Borderlands 3. This temporarily replaced Pueblo and Truck ‘N’ Oasis
Moisty Palms | Moisty Palms was the fourth Rift Zone added in Patch 10.30, replacing Paradise Palms. It was similar to Paradise Palms, with many buildings, however it also has swampy terrain just like Moisty Mire, making it a combination of the two. Inside of Moisty Palms’ bubble, players could crouch and turn into a random prop.
Greasy Grove | Greasy Grove was the fifth Rift Zone also added in Patch 10.30, alongside Moisty Palms. It replaced the Frozen version of Greasy Grove from Season 7-9. It was very similar to the original Greasy Grove, however the Durr Burger shop is now a Tacos shop and many houses swapped places. The rules of Greasy Grove’s bubble was that tacos would fall from the sky, and sometimes players would forcibly dance and regenerate health.
Gotham City | Gotham City was the sixth Rift Zone added on September 21st of 2019, replacing Tilted Town. It was a large city with many buildings, obviously inspired from the Gotham City in Batman. While players were inside of Gotham City, they could redeploy their glider by pressing jump while high in the air. It was added to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Batman.
Starry Suburbs | Starry Suburbs was the seventh and final Rift Zone added in Patch 10.40. It looked very similar to the Old Ruins near Pleasant Park, but has been rebuilt into a nice settlement. In this Rift Zone, stars would fall from the sky and could have been used for a free item. A Legendary Tactical Submachine Gun was only found in this POI. |
Relational Zones[]
While some of these locations do have a bubble or were created by a Rift Beacon, they are not considered as Rift Zones.

Loot Lake | Loot Lake had existed before Season X, but it saw some interesting changes in the season. The Lake could have been considered a Rift Zone, because there was a bubble around the POI and it had a special rule - the area was antigravity and it had a permanent rift there. However, it did not have the visuals of other Rift Zones and was not officially titled one by Epic Games, so it is not a Rift Zone. | Removed
Sports Center
]] |
Sports Center is not related to the Rift Zones, because it does not have any specific rules or a use in the story - however it was created in a similar way to the others. It was created by a Rift Beacon that malfunctioned and exploded at the Sports Center near Tilted Town and made a crater. | Removed
Floating Island | Again, the Floating Island is not a Rift Zone but was created in the same way as the others. A Rift Beacon was constructed at Fatal Fields, which brought back the Floating Island and a couple other things like the Motel and multiple lost artifacts teleported away by Rifts near the end of Season 4. | Removed |
Trivia[]
- The concept of the Rift Zones in Season X seems to have been taken from the Hotel Continental in the Wick's Bounty LTM from one season prior. Like the Hotel Continental, not only did Rift Zones have different gameplay mechanics while inside them, but also a special title card upon entering.
