Lore[]
“ | I've been thinking about rifts lately. Those, uh, things are basically energy portals pre-attuned to the Zero Point AND the Island.

Rifts are a very common type of portal in Fortnite, they are spatio-temporal energy portals pre-attuned to The Zero Point and connecting two or more realities. They allow travel across the entire omniverse.
They were first introduced in Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 4 during the Blast Off event and have since become very prominent and reoccurring elements in all of Fortnite.
Overview[]
A rift is a portal that can connect to anywhere, at any point in time (past-present-future), at any reality in The Omniverse. There are several ways to open a rift, but the most common one is to resonate with The Zero Point and use its energy to open one or use Rift Tech, in order to break space time and be able to travel.
In addition to allowing travel between realities or teleportation, Rifts can have other effects, such as altering Reality under a certain perimeter. These locations are known as Rift Zones. Rifts also allow time to be frozen, as it happened with the Meteor during Season X, and time travel using specific machines to control it or simply by accident as it happened with Jonesy The Secondst and Peely.

Rifts are known to have one of the strongest gravitational pull, capable of pulling anything and everything in its vicinity into the rift. Nothing can escape it, not even Batman or Doctor Doom with the power of Pandora's Box.
Appearance[]
Rifts usually appear as large crack, breaking the fabric of reality. They usually comes in bright blue and pink color. However, they can also appear under the form of Rift Gates.
Types[]
Main[]
Rifts are divided into two categories main categories.
- Pure Portals: those rifts are born from The Zero Point itself and are also the most common and easiest to use. They are connected to all realities and can be closed at the source. Those portals were notably featured when Jones recruited the Hunters during Chapter 2: Season 5, during Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point and during Absolute Doom Event.
- Sideways Rift: those rifts are different from the pure portals, as they're not born from The Zero Point itself and aren't connected to all realities. Instead, they're opened between two and more distinct realities and take a long time to close (or have to be closed from all sides at once thanks to special devices). Those portals were notably featured during Blast Off and Season 5, as well as during Batman/Fortnite: Foundation.

Rifts are a gameplay mechanic in Fortnite: Battle Royale. They were introduced in Season 4 and became usable in Season 5.
Description[]
Rifts are a stationary object which is not bound by gravity. When a player enters a rift, they are teleported high up into the air, and put back into a free-fall. From this point, the player can redeploy their glider and land safely. Rifts disappear after 10 seconds from use, but can fit as many players as possible in this time period.
