History[]
Unknown Period of Time[]
The River Guard was founded at an unknown time period in Reality: 783. After Fox Clan's mask artisans - the ancestors of Daigo, Kendo and Jade - created dangerous Masks of Power with dark magic that threatened Oninoshima, they went to war against Demon Warriors and the dark masks they used. At the end of the conflict, Demon Warriors and magic were banished, and the conflict became known as the Shattering War. From that point on, River Guard became sworn enemies of the Fox Clan, blaming them for their mistake.
Chapter 4: Season 2[]
For unspecified reasons, Stray left the River Guard and joined the Fox Clan, much to Mizuki's disliking. His exit only fueled the prolonged fued between the River Guard and their rivals.[5]
The Looper, working for the Peace Syndicate, helped unify all Syndicates in MEGA City, including the River Guard. Thanks to negotiations with the Fox Clan organized by The Looper, their historical conflict was put to an end and they became allies.[6]
Chapter 6: Season 1[]
The River Guard returns to Reality: 783, establishing Lost Lake and settling there.[7] Though they have sustained their mended relationship with the Fox Clan (as Vi appears to greet Mizuki with no hostility upon entering Rolling Blossoms Farm, and Mizuki reassures Vi that the guard seeks no trouble, as well as seemingly no longer carrying resentments towards her brother) - the remergence of magic and elemental masks on the island prompts reflection on their history with the Fox Clan - and the reminder of why the River Guard now tend to keep to themselves.
Although the Fox Clan has their own doubts about their alliance, both groups appear to be keeping the peace and seem open to continuing to do so - should neither overstep their boundaries.[8]
Notably, Mizuki expresses a disliking towards both Daigo[9] alongside his ancestors - likely in relation to the events of the Shattering War.
