SHADOW Briefings are quest-giving objects in Fortnite: Battle Royale. They were introduced in Chapter 5: Season 2.

Functionality

SHADOW Briefings are terminals found throughout the map, sent by SHADOW. Interacting with them will prompt the player to accept or not a challenge in exchange for a reward. In most cases, completing the briefing within a time limit is necessary to redeem its rewards, but in some, the challenge itself is the reward. A SHADOW Briefing always offer the same specific challenge, that can only be accepted once a match, despite if it gets concluded or not. If the time limit approaches its end, a ticking clock sound will be heard, followed by a "FAILED" warning above the quest if it is not completed before expiration.

SHADOW Briefings can currently be found in 3 types, each containing a unique challenge and reward: Plunder, Supply Drop, and Armory. All SHADOW Briefings have predetermined spawn locations and are marked on the map as a small white notebook.

There are also 6 other types of SHADOW Briefings, including 2 special variations, that are vaulted as of Chapter 6: Season 1: Bounty, Vehicle, Waxen Wings, Footrace, Midas Service Stations and Jigsaw's Challenge.

Note: The Armory SHADOW Briefing spawns with at least one challenge from each weapon class. Accepting a challenge removes it from that terminal. After completing a challenge, the terminal can be interacted with again to start another, if any are still available.

Jigsaw's Challenge

With the Fortnitemares 2024 Event, various TV monitors could be found around the Island. Interacting with one of them would propose a challenge which, when accepted, worked similarly to the Bounty challenge.

They appear similar to SHADOW Briefings and fill a similar function to Bounty Boards. Jigsaw's Challenge feature an image of Billy the Puppet and rather than photos and details about the briefings on them. The other differences being that Jigsaw's Challenges don't start a quest the moment they are interacted with, but another player is required to interact with another Jigsaw's Challenge to start the quest. The quest is thought of as a duel and not a hunt, so there is no hunter nor hunted but their locations will be marked on the minimap with a yellow circle that updates every TBD seconds. Should neither player manage to eliminate their opponent within 5 minutes, the mask placed on both player's heads when interacting with a Jigsaw's Challenge will explode, eliminating both of them. However, If one of the two players or their teammates eliminates their opponent within the time limit,the winning player will be awarded with Boom Billys, the Witch Broom, and other loot, and their mask will be removed. If the Bounty is poached, the surviving player is given the message "You Survived" and their mask is removed without recieving loot.

Trivia

• SHADOW Briefings seem to be made as a replacement to Bounty Boards as they both offer 100 Bars per completed task.
• Both Waxen Wings and Footrace SHADOW Briefings don't have an exclusive terminal icon; therefore, marking them displays the map icon instead.
• Along with their addition in Chapter 5: Season 2, there were mentions of a "Survival" challenge that would reward players with Slurp Juice and Bars for surviving a set duration while being marked on the map. Although it appeared to have been scrapped at the time, as it was never properly implemented, it was likely repurposed into Davy Jones' Survive the Black Mark service a season later.
• The mask from Jigsaw's Challenge, which is based on Cuddle Team Leader, could be a reference to the Reversed Bear Trap from the Saw franchise.
