Sewers are a gameplay mechanic introduced in Chapter 5: Season 1.
Description[]
Sewers are predefined points on the map that are most common within Named Locations. They can be easily identified by a dark-colored manhole cover that does not sit flush with the terrain; it is instead raised a bit. The manhole cover has an emblem on it that reads "TMNT" and has a design resembling a turtle shell on it. This is a reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with whom Fortnite has collaborated with. A player that is close to one will hear faint music.
Functionality[]
When interacted with, the player will jump into the Sewer with a special animation. A short transition screen of falling down into the pipe will play. The player will then jump out of another Sewer nearby. In this way, Sewers can be used as shortcuts across POIs and/or as quick getaways while being ambushed.
Each Sewer is directly connected to another Sewer point on the map. These connections do not change and are not random - entering one Sewer will result in exiting the same Sewer, and vice versa, every time.
Named Locations[]
Sewers can be found at the following Named Locations:
- Classy Courts (one set)
- This set connects the lower courts with the spectator seating and the parking lot.
- Hazy Hillside (one set)
- This set connects the town square with the clock tower to the end of the longer street.
- Grand Glacier (one set)
- This set connects the underground Vault area inside the Grand Glacier Hotel to the parking lot of the apartment complex located North of the hotel.
- Lavish Lair (two sets)
- One set connects the main entrance lot to the Western pathway.
- The other set takes you from the left side of the pathways to the right and vice versa.
- Pleasant Piazza (one set)
- This set simply takes you from one side of the town to the other.
- Reckless Railways (four sets)
- The first set takes you from the unmarked building directly West of the Railway to the northern corner of the housing area in the Railway.
- The second set takes you from the street outside the Railway Station to the area underneath Valeria's compound.
- The third set takes you from a road on the outskirts of the housing area to a sidewalk on an inner part of the housing area.
- The fourth set takes you from the parking area on the East side of the Railway to a road on the southern outskirts of the Railway area.
- Ritzy Riviera (two sets)
- One set takes you from the docking area of the Riviera to the road directly bisecting the Riviera.
- The other set takes you from the commercial area of the Riviera (near the Society-controlled building) to the upper level of the Riviera near the observation tower.
- Snooty Steppes (two sets)
- One set takes you from the road entering Snooty Steppes to a higher area near some housing.
- The other set takes you from the housing area on the shoreline to the court near Peter Griffin's mansion.
Unnamed Locations[]
Sewers can be found in the following unnamed locations:
- A set can be found on the road outside of the Ship It! Express building between Fencing Fields and Pleasant Piazza. Entering this Sewer will take you directly into the Underground HQ where the player can find Vengeance Jones.
- A set can be found at the Unmoored Manor landmark. This set simply goes from the center of the location to the right side.
Trivia[]
- Of all the Named Locations, only three are missing a Sewer system: Rebel's Roost, Ruined Reels, and Fencing Fields.
- The Sewer that traverses the longest distance is the one in Grand Glacier. Conversely, the shortest Sewer is found in Valeria's compound that connects to the street outside.
- While the player experiences the animation of jumping into the Sewer, their hurtbox is still present until the transition screen appears. They may consequently take damage until this happens. For this reason it may be dangerous to enter a Sewer while actively being attacked.
