The Sideways Minigun is an Assault Weapon in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It was added in Chapter 2: Season 8.

Functionality

The Sideways Minigun is a fully automatic, fast firing, medium ranged weapon, not very accurate, and has a spin up timer, which means the player cannot fire it instantly. The Sideways Minigun does not have a magazine size, and works on a cooldown system. Firing the weapon for too long will cause it overheat, and the player must wait a short time before using it again. When the weapon is close to overheating, the fire rate increases and the bullet spread decreases. The player can fire 55 bullets continuously before it overheats.

Strategy Guide

• Make sure to time your cooldown correctly, as even though you will be dealing more damage per second, it will be very dangerous to wait for the several second cooldown period between firing again.
• Sideways Miniguns of low rarities are not really made for actual combat, but exist to destroy builds and outplay those building for cover.

History

Chapter 2: Season 8

• Update v18.00: Introduced the Sideways Minigun in Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary and Mythic.
  • It can be found from Sideways Anomalies and Sideways Chests. Players can use Cube Monster Parts to upgrade the weapon.
• Update v18.10: Added the Sideways Minigun to creative, along with an unused Common Sideways Minigun.
• Update v18.20: The Common Sideways Minigun is available in the Horde Rush LTM.

Chapter 3: Season 1

• Update v19.00: Vaulted the Sideways Minigun in all rarities.
• Update v19.01: (December 15th 2021): The Mythic Sideways Minigun has been added to Creative.

Chapter 3: Season 2

• Update v20.40: Unvaulted the Sideways Minigun in all rarities.
  • As Cube Monster Parts have not returned, the weapon is only upgradable at Upgrade Benches.
    • This includes its Mythic version.
• Content Update v20.40: Vaulted the Sideways Minigun in all rarities.

Trivia

• There are two Mythic versions of this weapon, both with identical stats. The Boss Minigun is an unused Mythic rarity of it.
• The Mythic version of this weapon has the highest DPS of any weapon in Battle Royale at 312 DPS.
• The Sideways Minigun has the same pull out animation as the Minigun, being a briefcase that quickly unfolds into a Sideways Minigun.
• In Chapter 2: Season 8, Sideways Miniguns could be upgraded with:
  • 10 Cube Monster Parts Common to Uncommon.
  • 15 Cube Monster Parts Uncommon to Rare.
  • 20 Cube Monster Parts Rare to Epic.
  • 25 Cube Monster Parts Epic to Legendary.
  • 50 Cube Monster Parts Legendary to Mythic.
