The Sideways Rifle is an Assault Weapon in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It was added in Chapter 2: Season 8.

Functionality[]

The Sideways Rifle is a fully automatic, fast firing, medium to long ranged weapon. It has first shot accuracy enabling longer ranged engagements. The Sideways Rifle does not have a magazine size, and works on a cooldown system. Firing the weapon for too long will cause it overheat, and the player must wait a short time before using it again. When the weapon is close to overheating, the damage multiplies by 1.5. The player can fire 10 bullets continuously before it overheats.

The Sideways Rifle is a hitscan weapon, with First Shot Accuracy enabled.

Damage falloff:

Damage falloff begins at 50 meters (10 tiles).
Damage steadily decreases down to 80% of its maximum at 75 meters (15 tiles).
Damage reaches its minimum value of 66% of its maximum at 95 meters (19 tiles).

Make sure to time your cooldown correctly, as even though you will be dealing more damage, it will be very dangerous to wait for the several second cooldown period between firing again.
At long distances and before initiating a fight, it can be a good idea to build up heat by shooting elsewhere to gain the extra damage on the first few hits.
Once this weapon reaches the heat point where it does extra damage, it is best to try to keep it heated by tap firing, If you're in a fight and don't have an immediate line of sight on someone it can still be good to just fire off shots to keep the heat up.

Counters[]

Due to the small amount of shots this weapon can fire before overheating, placing builds or getting behind cover is advised, as it can significantly reduce its effectiveness.

As of Chapter 3: Season 2, there’s been a bug with the Sideways Rifle when using it in Fortnite: Creative where the weapon is enlarged upon pulling it out and shooting it.
This and the Sideways Minigun are the only weapons to have ever been upgradeable to Mythic at an upgrade bench.
