No Wall Is Safe!
— Introduction Text

Smashers are tank-like enemies whose primary purpose is to smash through a fort's defenses to allow other monsters access. They are first introduced during Stonewood Storm Shield Defense 4, though they are also seen in the Save the world intro when you are just beginning the game. They are primarily found in siege/defense Missions but they can be found patrolling and sleeping in the maps as well.

If Smashers are disturbed while patrolling or sleeping, then they will only attack players.

Behavior[]

Smashers have high health and will quickly demolish almost any type of Building. They also deal damage if the player gets struck by one. However, they do not directly damage the objective themselves.

Smashers are highly impact resistant, but for all the power they possess, they have one significant weakness: limited stamina. After attacking one wall, a Smasher will tire out and be defenseless for several seconds, giving the player an opportunity to significantly damage it.

In later areas, their charge attack can be particularly devastating, able to heavily damage an unaware hero, if not outright kill them. They can be found roaming in the map starting in higher levels of the Plankerton zone and often appear during sieges in all tiers. They are especially dangerous when close quarters near the base. They are highly resistant to impact and are hard to eliminate due to their high health. Smashers are the only Mist Monster that can be elemental and spawn as an Epic Mini-Boss.

Abilities[]

  • Hammer Punch - Damage players within melee range with medium knockback. Used by Smashers in the wilderness or when a player is blocking their movement.
  • Slam - Slams the ground when attacked within melee range by heroes from the back. Does high, AoE damage and knocks back.
  • Charge - Charges in a straight line, knocking back heroes, along with high damage. After completing the charge, the smasher will be tuckered out and be unable to attack or move for a short moment. If the smasher targets the player, then their charge will chase the targeted player.
  • Wall Crasher - Similar to charge but the smasher spins as it does so, devastating walls. A fully upgraded metal wall -- if reinforced with a Constructor's B.A.S.E. -- may be able to survive one of these, but will rarely survive another.
  • Wall Punch - The Smasher will punch a built wall using its large arm. This attack does not deal much damage compared to a charge but can perform this attack multiple times at a high rate.

Types[]

  • Smasher.
  • Krampus Smasher: A variant of Smashers that have a slightly different appearance with horns and a beard. They appear across the game during the Frozen Fjords Venture Season.

Strategy[]

Calculated - Emote - Fortnite
This section outlines a strategy.
Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic.
  • Traps with high enough impact can stop them during their charge. Be careful that lower levels of impact will simply be ignored by the Smasher, so it is not worth using low leveled impact traps if their goal is to deter Smashers.
    • Use a Tar Pit to stop a smasher's charge. Floor Freeze traps can also temporarily stop smashers' charges, but, upon unfreezing, the smasher will continue charging.
    • Creating false structures may draw a Smasher to attack it instead of the objective. This is especially useful in Storm Shield Defense missions as built structures persist between missions.
  • Freezing Smashers:
    • Subzero Zenith's commander perk freezes them if used with a sniper - specifically a fast-firing one, along with many crit rating perks, which then allows everyone to focus their attacks and kill it without running into any problems and getting hurt.
    • The Ice Queen's commander perk makes the Seismic Smash ability an enemy freezer. Run her in the lead to temporarily freeze a smasher in its place.
    • The Ice King's B.A.S.E. perk ability will momentarily freeze a smasher in its place.
