Split Screen is a mode where two players can play Fortnite: Battle Royale on the same console. It was released in Update v11.30. It is supported on the Xbox One, the Xbox Series X/S, the PlayStation 4, and the PlayStation 5.

Starting Up Split Screen[]

To play Fortnite, ensure both controllers are connected to the console. Launch the game and navigate to the Play section. Once both controllers are linked, Player 1 (the main player) should invite Player 2 to choose their account. After signing in, Player 2 will join the lobby, and split-screen mode will automatically activate.

Skydive Leaders[]

The skydive leader is a new feature introduced during the launch of Split Screen in Fortnite: Battle Royale, although being a limitation. Occasionally, Player 1 is automatically assigned the role of the skydive leader. In this scenario, Player 2 is strictly forced to land at the designated location chosen by Player 1. During gameplay, Player 1 is informed that they are the skydive leader, while Player 2 is informed that Player 1’s username is the skydive leader. When skydiving, Player 2 can have the option to jump without skydive leaders. A workaround for this must allow Player 1 to deploy their glider to make them skydive freely.

Constraints[]

  • Only main Battle Royale matches support split-screen in Duos, Trios, or Squads, as it does not support Limited Time Modes.
  • Direct inventory sharing is not allowed. The only way to share items between split screen teammates is to drop/throw items and the other player picks it up.
  • Players are restricted from playing Save the World or Creative in Split Screen mode.
  • When readying up, Player 2 cannot ready up due to Player 1 doing it.
