The Storm Flip is a Consumable in Fortnite: Battle Royale. It was added in Season 9.
Functionality[]
The Storm Flip is thrown at a surface to produce a different effect depending on if it is thrown in the Storm or outside of it. Regardless, it will slowly grow to a large sphere, taking a small amount of time to grow, and lasting 20 seconds when at its largest. It will then shrink back into nothing.
In the Storm[]
If the Storm Flip is thrown into the Storm, it will create a large sphere which removes all passive storm damage when inside it for the duration of the item. The Storm Flip can be thrown anywhere in the storm to provide this effect.
Out of the Storm[]
If the Storm Flip is thrown out of the Storm, it will create a large sphere which deals the same damage as 5% of the player’s maximum health per second. Damage dealt will be attributed to the player who threw it, and teammates in team gamemodes. If the Storm Flip is thrown at the border of the Storm, it will flip each area accordingly.
Stats[]
Storm Flips deal damage related to the player’s maximum amount of health.

Strategy Guide[]
- The Storm Flip can be used to easily survive the Storm way beyond the actual safe zone. Combined with several healing items, or multiple players carrying Storm Flips, a player can survive until and past when the storm closes completely.
- The Storm Flip was originally ineffective early on in a match before it was changed to do a flat 5 damage per second, as it would only deal 1 damage per second on the first two Storm circles.
- The Storm Flip can be thrown into a build fight, or combined with fire, in order to deal HP damage as fast as possible and damage players inside their structures. On top of this, visibility is greatly reduced.
History[]
Season 9[]
- Update v9.20: Introduced the Storm Flip in Epic Rarity.
- Update v9.21: Adjusted Storm Flip to cause flat damage instead of being based on which Storm Phase is currently active.
- Causes 5 damage every second.
- We noticed with scaling damage that players held onto their Storm Flip later into matches, creating undesirable effects. This change gives players more value in using it earlier in matches.[1]
Season X[]
- Update v10.20: Vaulted the Storm Flip.
Chapter 4: Season OG[]
- Update v27.11 Hotfix: Unvaulted the Storm Flip.
Chapter 5: Season 1[]
- Update v28.00: Vaulted the Storm Flip.

Trivia[]
- The Storm Flip is currently the only item in the game that is directly affected by the current location of the Storm.
- It is also currently the only item in the game that directly inflicts damage on the user's teammates, unlike some others which do it via Fire, or Fall Damage.
- The border around the Storm Flip item’s area of effect was originally blue but, was later changed to red likely to differentiate it from the border of the actual storm circle.
- The Storm Flip is the only item that does different amounts of damage depending the current maximum amount of health a player has because it always does 5% of the player’s maximum health per second for its 20 second duration. For example the Storm Flip normally does 5 damage per second because the player has a max health of 100. However, if a player has different maximum amount of health such as the 200 when holding the Infinity Blade, it will scale to 5% of that amount. That means a Storm Flip would do 10 damage per second to a player holding the Infinity Blade.
- It is currently unknown whether damage taken from the Storm Flip contributes to the 600 Storm damage threshold to begin inflicting a player with Storm Sickness.
